The New Realms

As you may have noticed, we're not a typical OUaT site! We have a the capacity to welcome newer fandoms as well as those from classic stories and fairy tales. The new realms added to the board allow for that!

OC and non-canon characters can come from any of the canon and non-canon realms on the board, but their histories must be made to match the realm you pick. While information on the Once Upon a Time realms is readily available on wiki pages and through google, this site does have a few realms unique to it. Below is a little more information on each of these realms and what kind of characters might come from them. More information will be posted as the realms are fleshed out, and as new realms are added to the site. You MAY choose a canon realm even if they might fit into one of these if you so desire.

No realm/city can be an EXACT copy of a place in a book/movie/TV show, though they can be close if they can fit in the Once world. Hogwarts would not fit on its own, but a world where people learned magic within their village wouldn't be entirely out of place.

concerning fandoms/concepts

Not every fandom or power can fit on this board, even with all the tweaking to make it work for the Once Upon a Time universe. Or perhaps their fandom is just too large. Below is a list of fandoms that are simply not allowed in any sense of the word, and no characters from them will be accepted. This list may be added to at any time, based on what might pop up during the application process.

Banned Fandom/Concepts

  1. - Anime/Manga
  2. - Religion
Meanwhile, some concepts may still be apped, but have restrictions placed on them. Usually, it's because these are more case-by-case situations that arise and may be over-looked depending on the app itself. If something on the restricted list appeals to you, drop me a PM before you make an app to see if it'll fly! I'm always willing to make exceptions for these concepts if I feel they can fit in well with the world!

Restricted Fandom/Concepts

  1. - Historical Figures
  2. - Portal Jumping
  3. - Dr. Who (The immortals, mostly)
  4. - Twilight
  5. - Altering Reality

Critter Country

Movies like Zootopia, Robin Hood, along with characters like Bolt, Simba and other animals would all come from this realm. Characters that started human would not be from this world. You may choose if they came from the forest or jungle, or if they came from a city run by animals- everything is available in this critter-run realm.

Animals in this realm don't have to have come form a strictly animal-based movie. If you wanted one of the mice from The Rescuers here, or a pet from one of the primarily movies, that's entirely possible too, but remember that no humans are in this realm (with a few exceptions) and histories would have to be re-written to match accordingly.

Keep in mind that in Storybrooke, animal characters will need to have a human form! It's up to you if they will be able to shift back and forth. If they can use magic, it's likely possible, or they may have a magical item that allows it to happen.

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Zootopia
  2. - Kung Fu Panda
  3. - Lion King
  4. - Bambi
  5. - The Great Mouse Detective

Fantasyland

Shows/movies/stories based on magic and medieval times can come from this realm, if they aren't already in the Enchanted Forest. They do not all have to exist in the same version of one place- there might be different version of Camelot here, even beyond the one in the show. (If you wanted to play someone from the show Merlin, for example, or someone from the Arthurian lore in Gargoyles.) Magic must be used in a similar fashion to the magic in Once Upon a Time and must follow similar rules. Other fantasy-ish places, like Berk in How to Train Your Dragons, could also come from here.

Example Fandoms:

  1. - How to Train Your Dragon
  2. - Merlin
  3. - Skyrim/elder scrolls
  4. - Game of Thrones

Mysterious Islands

This realm is primarily for fandoms/characters who have supernatural elements to them. Vampires, ghosts, demons/angels, and all manner of spooky being can be found here. The realm itself consists of primarily "normal" cities and towns in a modern setting, though there always seems to be a somewhat dark and gloomy atmosphere in the air. Most of the people who live here have no idea supernatural happenings are taking place around them, though they have noticed a lot of strange and unexplained activity from time to time, as well as horrifying murders.

This realm also has some places that just don't exist in the Land Without Magic, like a place where people have revived dinosaurs and made a park for them to be seen and enjoyed by all. There's also rumblings of a city situated on top of a Hellmouth.

So if you have a character who comes from a mostly normal version of earth, but there's just something a LITTLE bit different about them, then look no further than the Mysterious Islands!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  2. - Angel
  3. - Ghostbusters
  4. - Supernatural
  5. - Jurassic Park

Tomorrowland

This is probably the most complex of the realms. This is the ONLY realm a character coming from a futuristic world can come from. Additionally, anything to do with aliens/space travel/science fiction will likely find their home here! This realm consists of one large world, much like earth, with various cities and areas within. They are generally all pretty advanced, and technology is the way of things. However, the unique thing about this realm?

Space travel.

Beyond this strange version of earth are countless planets, some which have been visited by the people of the human world, and some where other species live and prosper!

Keep in mind that, when coming to Storybrooke, advanced tech will not be coming along with them. It's okay to bring something small that fits into Storybrooke, but no spaceships allowed! Any aliens will also have to take a 'normal' human appearance when in Storybrooke. As with any app, characters must be made to work in the Once lore. Really outlandish aliens MIGHT have a tough time!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Lilo and Stitch
  2. - Stargate Universe
  3. - Star Wars
  4. - Star Trek
  5. - Meet the Robinsons

Hub World

The Hub World is a realm where video game characters (And movies/shows made about video game characters) can come from. If they don't quite fit into one of the other realms, they can come here! Just keep in mind that some characters, like Sonic or Mario, might need a bit more tweaking to work in Storybrooke. As always, they need to have human appearances in Storybrooke and abilities made need to be tweaked to work in our setting. They would need to be magic-based in Storybrooke, which may make things easier OR harder on your character, depending on what you decide to go with and what their powers originally were! Reality altering powers are simply not allowed, regardless of which video game character you pick. Video games that are too close to anime (like Persona) are not allowed, sorry!

The realm itself is a lot like the inside of Jefferson's hat, in that it's a large room with had looks like an impossible amount of doors. Behind these doors are a multitude of various worlds, from wastelands to strange places brimming with puzzles and challenges to get through. It's really a realm that connects to other, smaller realms. Each sub realm is what creates the Hub World.

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Legend of Zelda
  2. - Final Fantasy
  3. - Wreck-it-Ralph
  4. - Tron

The Land Time Forgot

This realm is literally prehistoric, making it the perfect place for dinosaurs, early man and other now extinct beings. This world is not set in a specific era of history from the Land Without Magic, making it home to animals who may otherwise never would have come to know one another. The realm is primarily jungle, but there are also dangerous, dried-out wastelands and even tar pits to be aware of! Pretty sure there's also an active Volcano or two to worry about.

While maybe not a place a lot of people are likely to come from, the adventures here will not be denied!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Land Before Time
  2. - The Croods
  3. - The Good Dinosaur
  4. - Ice Age

Frontierland

Cowboys! Yee-haw! This realm is set in the American Old West, and is pretty much just a place where everyone runs around with guns. The vast, dusty world is littered with bustling towns (both big and small), ranches and railroad tracks. From gold mining, to lawlessness and fun at the local saloon, there’s always something to do. Just make sure you don’t agree to any duels at high noon.

Please note that historical figures are not allowed UNLESS they are from a fandom and can fit into the realm!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - The Lone Ranger
  2. - Wagons, East!
  3. - A Million Ways to Die in the West
  4. - The Magnificent Seven

Sector 2814

This realm is actually a whole universe- there are many planets and races to explore. The version of earth that exists here is a mixture of normal places as well as those town found only in comic books, like Gotham. That’s right- this is a comic book world, open to characters from Marvel, DC and anything in between! Histories would need to reflect that they have all lived together.

Keep in mind that any non-magic powers will not work in Storybrooke, including mutant abilities, and any character with non-human appearances will need one inside the town! Powers and appearances can remain the same for their own realm, of course, just not in the Land Without Magic. Making powers magic-based is absolutely fine! Just keep in mind that it might change how they work for your character, whether they're regular magic or used through an enchanted item of some kind now! You may keep the general idea of the powers the same, but the way they work may need to be altered if they're not already a magic-based being. This may or may not make things more difficult for your character, depending on what you would like for them. More powerful characters can also be scaled back when entering Storybrooke.

Large pieces of tech (Iron Man's whole suit) may also not be allowed in Storybrooke. I reserve the right to be picky! Running around in a superhero outfit really wouldn't work outside of Sector 2814, so please be mindful of the long list of changes your character would have to undergo to fit into Storybrooke when leaving this realm!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Green Lantern
  2. - Batman
  3. - Ironman
  4. - X-Men

Olympus

Unlike the other realms, this realm is not open to all kinds of characters- it’s only open to Greek Gods and characters. Set in an ancient Greece-like setting, with Mount Olympus high above, this realm is the actual place where all those myths came to life.

There are quite a few restrictions and notes that come with Gods. For one, there can only be ONE iteration of each God, but that God CAN change appearances and have existed in multiple forms through other fandom’s explanations/histories. (IE, the Hades from OUaT can also be a Hades from Percy Jackson, just with a different appearance.) You may only use one face claim on the board, and if they existed in OUaT it needs to be that one! (Hades, Zeus and Poseidon). Gods must come from SOME fandom iteration, though their main one is up to you (Once notwithstanding.). If they don't exist in a fandom, try to fit them into Once lore! No OC Gods are allowed. Gods may move through realms, but may NOT be able to take anyone with them under any circumstances. Their powers may also be limited inside Storybrooke, based on the God you decide to use!

Example Fandoms:

  1. - Hercules
  2. - Xena
  3. - Percy Jackson
  4. - Clash of the Titans
