The birdwatcher and the villain in disguise.

A day off was something that Newt wasn't about to waste, not with the surprisingly nice weather and comfortable temperatures. Using that time to work on other things was no doubt a better way to go but he didn't see the harm in a little bird-watching. Muggles could keep their television sets, he was quite happy to be outside taking in the wildlife. The very mundane wildlife although he couldn't help but hope to get another glimpse of that snidget again. Thus far the creature had proved very illusive.

So looking as out of place as he usually did (because no matter what anyone said, he was quite happy with his current attire, thank you very much), sans any sort of coat as it was just too warm for that nonsense and his shirt sleeves rolled up revealing light evidence of the odd bite or claw mark. Not that he really cared what he looked like, he wasn't out to impress (and there was only one person that fell under that category and she was at work) nor did he see the birds and other forest creatures making comments about his appearance.

Finding a clearing that seemed as good as any to stop in, Newt set down is case - didn't seem fair to have Tina watch it and the less she knew about the number of times that niffler had escaped the better - got out his equally 1920's binoculars, a quill, ink, and a small notebook and sat down upon a log. While he did have a chair he could have gotten this was just easier and if he did see a snidget he wasn't going to be sitting long. Even if that was a rather large amount of wishful thinking on his part.

Lastly he fished out a modern copy of a Guide to Birds which he set along with everything else and so began the art of bird-watching. Although it was much more like just making notes on what he had seen and looking up those he wasn't sure about. The average muggle would have labeled it boring and compared to studying the nesting habits of the Swedish short-snout it was but needs must. At least it also gave him time to think about recent events, those regarding Tina anyway.

With his binoculars fixed on a very cross looking woodpecker, he nearly jumped when it sounded as if something had fallen. Or was that someone? Considering the crunch of leaves, the snap of a branch or two it certainly sounded as much. There weren't too many other things it could be. Still, he didn't see anything - not that it was hard to see why with the number of trees and the odd pocket of brambles here or there, perfectly capable of hiding something of decent size. After looking around, he decided it was nothing at all even if he didn't believe that himself and went back to looking through his binoculars. Still, he didn't figure even if it was a person that they'd be interested in the likes of him. How wrong that idea really was.

This ain't no place for no hero
This ain't no place for no better man.
Heckyl had come to accept that while he had ended up in Storybrooke, his ship, and his crew of idiots, did not. If anything, he hoped that the ship had crashed and burned elsewhere and that the crew were lost. If it were the case, then at least it saved him a lot of time when or if he ever got back there.

The details of how and why he was even there had been fuzzy at best. The town seemed the sappy sort of postcard garbage if anything, and the people there so far had done little to help lessen his already sour mood. And so, immediate survival skills had in fact kicked in, and rather than dealing with the town, Heckyl instead set up a small camp site within the woods.

He built a temporary shelter that sat just beneath a tree that had been long since knocked over. He had rolled one of the larger hollowed out trees on the ground over to act as a seat, and with a little aid of his lightning ability, had kept a small but useful campfire going. After doing that, he took yet another walk through the woods as eyes through his goggles searched to detect any traces of the energy from the energems.

This was the fifth walk, and the fifth time it looked like he was going to come up short. Did the energems just not actually exist here!? That worried him if only a little, given that he could find no traces either of an Amber Beach, he wondered if he hadn't somehow ended up in a galaxy unlike his own. Damn it. If he at least had Wrench here he could make him suffer a little to cheer himself up.

His steps in black combat boots had been light, although they weren't light enough to stop the breaking of twigs beneath his feet, or the occasional tree that was pulled back to get past. But then he saw a man, and while Heckyl really had no reason to do much other than ignore him, he started to think better of it.

May as well make himself known, even if it's one poor soul that may not get into Storybrooke long enough to warn the others. He pulled his arms forward fingers becoming entwined with one another when he stretched and a smile shot forth from his lips. " Hello there! " Ever so cheery, the perfect facade to a space outlaw known throughout most galaxies.

The birdwatcher and the villain in disguise.

A low rumble admitted from the case pulling Newt's attention from that still angry looking woodpecker to it. That was odd. While it was common for the catch to pop open and there were times creatures could be heard from it in the event they were wanting a chance to leave. But, this, this was different and he couldn't quite put his finger on why it was even happening. It was almost like thunder but Frank wasn't there anymore. Whatever it was, it was something he was going to have to look into later. Not only to satisfy his own curiosity but he didn't want to leave Tina with any surprises either.

With the case quiet again, Newt turned to go back to bird watching right as he heard that hello. Still looking through his binoculars, he zeroed in on the man before lowering them. No doubt looking a bit silly for a second or two. Although, considering the weird attire the man was wearing, maybe he wasn't the only one left to feel foolish. Of course, that was a bit like the pot calling the kettle black with what Newt preferred to wear.

The man certainly did remind him of the description of the Doctor. Although that was fiction and he was pretty sure that even the Doctor wouldn't dress like that. Real life hardly offered up such things even if Storybrooke was a town of weird. Perhaps it was possible but that was something his brain couldn't even handle to think about. Honestly he just wanted to enjoy his bird watching - even if thus far he hadn't seen what he really wanted to. Although for all he knew, it was sadly possible that the snidget had met it's end by now. What a horrible thought.

Still it was rude just to sit there and stare at the man, regardless of his clothes. Newt flashed the man a smile, "Good morning." At least he was pretty sure it was still morning, he rather hoped that it was. He didn't want to use up the whole day and there was that fact he wanted to bring Tina lunch. Settling for what they had in the diner was not how he wanted to handle that either. Even if she had told him that he didn't have to bring her lunch. "Quite a beautiful day, isn't it?" Not that this man seemed like he was really dressed for a nature walk. It still seemed like a nice enough day to him anyway. He wasn't about to waste it.

" Isn't it? " At least he was polite. Heckyl had been used to dealing with uncultured monsters and idiotic teenage Power Rangers that didn't know simple manners. " What are you doing? " Right to the point. His camp had been nearby, and while he really could just move it, he'd much rather that he not have been found at all. His attention turned to the case as he waited for the man to talk. A downside of Storybrooke. Had this been anywhere else, his very arrival would have had that guy running for the hills.

Give it time. It won't be long before the name of Heckyl.. and ugh. Snide too. Would be well known and feared as they should be. Speaking of Snide. Heckyl heard that ever so annoying chime from his pocket watch go off, something that produced a chuckle from the man as he dug into the pocket of his overcoat and immediately closed his glove hand over the pocket watch to dull out the sound. He hadn't an idea of what Snide wanted, but right now was not a good time for it.

" I'm new here, isn't this place spiffy? " So cheerful, and yet truth be told. The place sucked. He had nothing here! No energems, no Power Rangers to destroy, no ship, no crew! If he hadn't loved his brown and blue hair so much, he'd have ripped it out in frustration!

So much so, he had looked down to where a mushroom had been close by his foot. Just for the sake of not being able to kick someone else at that moment, he pulled his right foot back and sent the mushroom top flying through the air where it bounced further away from the two. " These woods do a number on my allergies! " He said, with a smirk that bordered more on psychotic than anything!

The birdwatcher and the villain in disguise.

What exactly was it about this gentleman that seemed strange? Newt couldn't quite put his finger on it but something was off, something odd. Although, considering he didn't know what was wrong with his case either, maybe it was just a day of things that he couldn't understand even if he wanted to. Perhaps it was one of those wait and see things. "I'm birdwatching." He replied, although he was almost positive that, that should have been obvious but apparently that was not the case. Maybe there were people that sat in the woods with a bird book and all the other required things and didn't watch birds.

The chime from the man's pocket hadn't gone unnoticed either. Which perhaps wasn't that strange anymore, not in Storybrooke, with so many muggle things like phones which fit into pockets, perhaps the man didn't want to be rude by answering it. Not that Newt really could understand it, the town was small how hard was it to walk to see someone? And whatever happened to letter writing? Was it too much for muggles to understand these days?

Spiffy? What the hell kind of word was spiffy? The man's use of the word and the strange way he just stated that he was new, gave Newt a new level of puzzlement and something that he didn't like. Didn't like... now that was a feeling, a sentence that didn't come into being all that often if at all. He generally worked hard to like everyone, to see the good in people but something felt - wrong. Like when he had been interrogated by not-Graves sort of wrong. Similar feeling anyway.

All of it was enough for Newt to at least stand up. Nerves perhaps were the driving force but it didn't hurt to stretch out the muscles, or so was going to be the excuse if anyone asked. He set down his binoculars on the bit on the parchment he had set out before turning his attention back to the doctor wannabe. "It is very nice here, yes." Anyway, he was pretty sure that was the sort of thing that spiffy meant anyway. Sounded right even if the word was entirely new to him. "And you're new? Where did you come from?" Newt's questions were perhaps more carefully selected than usual, maybe even showing in his tone.

Watching the innocent mushroom uprooted and flying through the air left Newt no less confused. Perhaps the man was just stressed, being trapped in a place without means of leaving did tend to bring out the worst in people. Even if it was just a mushroom it did seem like senseless destruction - considering the mushroom was there first and posed no threat to anyone - well, unless it turned out to be a poisonous one but Newt had never been a mushroom expert.

Still, he wasn't having very good manners. Even with some unknown thing bugging him, Newt offered the man the simple introduction of "I'm Newt Scamander," before offering his hand with the added, "And you are?" Still, Newt was managing to be polite, even if he wasn't all that sure about this new person.

This ain't no place for no better man.
" Watching them do what, exactly? " So his alien origin showed, maybe just a little. He raised a brow and looked towards the trees. " Great. If you see one let me know, I'm starving. " He was camping out in the woods, so of course he had to rely on the wild life to eat! That and the last thing that Storybrooke needed was a hangry Heckyl. Shame Half-Bake wasn't around, at least then he could have some cookies from the monster that pretty much couldn't do anything else right.

This guy just kept talking though, leaving Heckyl to have to put up with him. He rolled his shoulders, making it a little more obvious that he really hadn't wanted to bother much longer. " I'm uh.. from out of town. " Typical excuse, though saying he was from space may have gotten him ore crazy looks than he already did. He didn't need that right now.

His attention had gone to the case though, and not at all did he try and hide that when he listened to the man. What the hell kind of name was Newt? As if the man named Heckyl really had much right to judge. ( He judged anyway. ) " Heckyl. " There was no real reason to deny his name, it was who he was, and one day all of Storybrooke would know it.

Soo.. that case. What was in there? He swore he saw it move, though it could have been his eyes playing tricks on him. Or, it did really just move on him. " What do you have there? Anything cool? " A wide smile once more found his lips when he moved closer and a fingertips brushed through the blue spikes of his hair. " Call me crazy, but it looked like your luggage just moved. "

His hand moved behind his back for a moment, head canting ever so slightly to see how his 'friend' was going to react. If it were anything making it move, no doubt Heckyl wanted it. At least it could breath a little life into the place, or more importantly, get him the hell out of there. He didn't belong in the backwoods somewhere, he should've been out and about destroying Power Rangers!

Steps moved closer once more, his hand still hiding behind his back for a moment before he had let it slip into sight. Something moved, take it or leave it. And open palm had started to generate a blu-ish light within his grasp. It was silent, even as the power had continued to manifest with crackles of electric energy flowing and and out from it.

Hands off the case, mate.

Newt laughed at what he thought was a joke until it appeared that what the man said hadn't been intended to sound humorous. He cleared his throat, "Beg your pardon." Had it been nearly anyone else he had thus far met in the town, he would have offered the man food if he really was hungry but not this time. Something was all too wrong and Newt didn't like it. And that wasn't down to the fact that the man had a strange name - after all, there was nothing he could think of that Heckyl could be a shortened version of. "A pleasure to meet you."

It wasn't hard to notice the interest the man had in his case. As much as he wanted to claim it was because most people didn't carry them anymore, Newt wasn't so sure. After all, the man was too interested if anything. "Personal things." Newt replied with a smile. "Haven't found a place yet. Still new here." Honestly he wasn't sure if that was a convincing lie but he was going with it anyway.

The case had moved, given itself away but Newt had no intention of letting this gentleman know that, in fact, he didn't like how interested in the case he was either. While not a possessive man by nature, there were somethings that really were his and the case and it's inhabitants was one of them. Another bobble from the case and a clasp popped. Honestly, he could have thought of a better time for that to happen! "Must be my alarm clock, thing's always causing a riot." Newt remarked and bent down to close the clasp again, his thumb catching the muggle worthy switch. Rarely used but for some reason he couldn't shake the feeling that now was a good time for it.

He straightened up, smiling at this Heckyl, even if he felt he had very little to smile about at the second. Newt had noted the gentleman's hand behind his back, he could honestly say, he hadn't expected, well, that. The crackle of electricity was hard to miss and growing. While he could handle a dragon, this was a new one. Common sense though, told him that this was hardly the time or the place for a duel with whatever magic this guy had (certainly wasn't anything he had ever seen before!) defusing the situation seemed a better choice. A starting point anyway. And there was that teeny tiny problem in the fact, that his wand was in the case anyway. After all, this was supposed to be his birdwatching time, not time spent dealing with a man with a bad dye job and a thing for electricity.

"There's no need to get defensive." Perhaps a line that worked better on a dragon than a person. "I can show you, if you want." Newt offered, sitting back down again and picking up the case, popping the case open, he slid out the wand which he curled his hand around and pressed against his forearm hopefully making it less visible - movement he hoped would go unnoticed. Then he turned the case around with his free hand to show the case's most boring of contents. "See?" The alarm clock was an old one (pretty much like everything else he had judged by someone who came from his idea of the future) and ticked away perfectly normally really. "Been meaning to get a new one." Newt remarked whether he was really selling the idea was a whole other matter. At least, now, he wasn't without protection.

the Devil's wrapping up his hands,
he's getting ready for the show down.
" Who carries around an alarm clock!? " Really, of all the things the men could discuss, that had been what rolled off his tongue. His hand had since been removed from behind his back where the bluish glow had ceased for the time being. He knew something was going on, but he hadn't the slightest of what it could have been. The only thing he knew had been that some how, this man had been tricking him, and Heckyl still wasn't too pleased with that.

That case reveal was....sad. " Oh, well then. " Heckyl mused. But while Newt may have felt that he had pulled off tricking him, Heckyl had other plans when he had once more gathered more of that lightning from his fingertip. " I guess I could just blow it up then. " Easily said enough when he rolled his shoulders and readied himself for the potential blast of energy to send off.

" Really funny you are, you're up to something! " Heckyl said, finger pointing at him all the while without firing. But then again his pocket watch started chiming and this time with a roll of his eyes, Heckyl pulled the watch from his pocket and looked to Newt. " If you'll excuse me, my other half is quite persistent. " And then he ignored Newt. Instead, blue eyes looked down to the tiny circular reflection of his watch that was filled with nothing but the ugly mug of Snide who glared back at him with his glowing yellow eyes. " What?! " He really didn't know if his 'friend' could hear Snide shouting at him, though Heckyl really didn't go out of his way to know either.

" No I haven't found the ship, no you can not come out right now! Let me get something done first! " Arguing with... himself. Or at least the monster in him that had been itching to come out and play since that morning. " I can't risk you being seen, you'll screw everything up! " speaking of which, Snide accused him of screwing up everything else! That almost hurt his feelings! With an annoyed groan though, Heckyl flipped the pocket watch shut and eyes glared back to Newt instead.

Blame Snide! He had to go and put Heckyl into an even more sour mood! Now it was just someone there for him to take it out on. It also hadn't helped that Heckyl just liked watching others suffer. Sick, maybe. But the guy had to get his jollies somewhere.

You're playing with forces beyond your understanding.

"You don't?" The question had left Newt's mouth before he really thought about it. Although, he wasn't entirely sure why he carried one himself. Rarely did he actually need a reminder to get up in the morning, he just did and living in the case had the added advantage - or disadvantage depending on whether or not he wanted more sleep - of Dougal being something of an alarm clock himself. Not every time and it seemed to depend on if there were creatures that were getting restless. Still, the demiguise had quite the skill for terrorizing him awake. None of which he was going to discuss with this man. Some people in Storybrooke just didn't need to know about the kind of magic that he - and the others - possessed.

However, things had taken a wrong turn. Newt was fully aware of that, not that it was impossible to see it. In fact, it was rather obvious. As much as he had hoped that showing the man inside the case, or really the mundane version of it, would pacify, it hadn't. Things had slipped even farther into the black, if anything... and when the man threatened to blow up the case, well, Newt wasn't impressed. An understatement most certainly. While he had hoped to avoid an altercation, it seemed this Heckyl person was dead set on causing problems. He let the case close, tensing up and preparing himself for the unavoidable just as the man's focus was taken elsewhere.

Any other time he would have questioned just how that watch worked but instead, Newt took the time to be constructive. Grabbing his binoculars, as that was the one thing out of his birdwatching kit that could not be easily replaced, he tucked it into the case which he locked up once again. Wand still in one hand and his case in the other, he stood, and stepped backwards over the log he had been sitting on. Hardly what one would label a quick get away, if anything the few meager seconds the strange man argued with whoever was in that watch, gave a chance to create some space between them.

He didn't get far, five, six steps maybe before the conversation ended. Dammit. There was no getting out of this without a fight was there there? And something about that look on his face... he looked even more irritated. Great. Newt sighed, raising his wand at Heckyl. "Please don't make me use this." At the rate the man was going, it was certain that the use of manners wasn't going to change anything. Still, Heckyl had been warned. Much like he had done with some of the more problematic creatures on his adventures although they tended to be more reasonable. This man - he was not.

Use.. what exactly? The guy was hiding something, that much was clear. Now that Heckyl had in a sense blown his cover by trying to get to the bottom of why the case had been moving, there was now no going back. " Oh a stick. You're going to poke me with your stick? " Arms had folded over his chest, equally as unimpressed by the stick as he was the threat. " I think someone has a slight compensating problem. " Heckyl mused, a slightly higher tone in his voice. Insult as it were, he also had no idea what the stick was, the whole disadvantage to being a space outlaw and not some loser stuck solely on Earth like everyone else there.

" All I have is this. " He sighed, although is hand quickly shot to the side where a thick blast of lightning shot from it and caused a tree to become covered in a blue glow before vaporizing. " Is it my turn again!? " What did this guy really do to him? Well, kind of nothing. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and Heckyl didn't like being told no. Nothing more than that!

Yet another shot of that lightning followed, although this one was a lot closer towards the man when he fired a single shot from his finger towards the ground causing the dirt to kick up and a small hole form as the energy blast faded. He hadn't hit him yet, but it was only a matter of when he was done playing around with him that it'd happen.

" Oh! " Speaking of little sticks and wizards who may not get to stand a chance against infamous space outlaws! ( That was another wand joke! ) His light show had come to an end, for now. A part of him almost daring to see if the man would do anything or if he'd be smarter and take off running, something which Heckyl never was against.. he personally liked moving targets. It made it more challenging.

" I thought when I saw you.. That guy looks familiar! I poked around town a little and I remember now! You were with some pretty lady! " Even being evil, Heckyl had that cheerful demeanor, a wide smile like he was honestly proud that he had been able to recall where he had seen Newt once before. " So honest question friend. You think I have a chance? I've been in a prison cell for centuries! " If you ah, got his drift. Being locked up by Sledge was not fun! Probably why it was easier to take over his ship, stupid Bounty Hunter.

You're playing with forces beyond your understanding.

The game was on, as the saying went. Things had taken that insane turn that often happened when dealing with morons with bad hair. Newt did his best to remain unmoved by the man's show of power (and the same went for the wand related remark!), Heckyl was no different than a male re'em trying to impress the females of the species, or that fight for breeding rights. Safe to say, it was nothing that Newt hadn't seen before, although, in this case, it was for neither of those things. Just someone being overly aggressive for sport. Therefore any movement was fatal, in Newt Scamander's world. The slightest of smiles lingered on his lips. Adrenaline kicking in, he still loved that feeling even if he would have been more keen on dealing with a re'em over this guy.

Even as the odd bit dirt kicked up from Heckyl's light show, bounced off his legs, Newt didn't move, still ready to defend himself if need be, however, as expected it was just a show. He couldn't help but smirk, one that fell rather quickly as Tina was dragged into the picture - if not in so many words. Blood drawn and only pleasant sounding words spoken. That slight tick of annoyance worked in the back of his mind, growing with each word that found it's sickeningly sweet way out of Heckyl's mouth.

"Touch her and I'll kill you." Newt hissed in reply, although the look on his face that followed showed that even he was surprised by that particular sentence. Now, however, was not the time or the place for contemplating the hows and whys of what he had said (something he would no doubt do later!), at the moment he still had to deal with this annoying, little prat. Worse was the fact that he had gotten Newt to show his hand, the weakness, the injury. Dammit anyway!

Newt was, for lack of a better word, tired of playing regardless. With the threats having grown to passed what was even remotely acceptable, he saw it only fit to give one, final warning. "Walk away while you have the chance." Somehow, even before he said those words, he was positive that Heckyl wasn't listening. That type never did.

While this man was older, wiser perhaps wasn't in that particular deck of cards. That didn't stop Newt from giving an out, even if he had issued a puzzling threat of his own not long before. Lightning was dangerous but if that's all the man had in his arsenal, well, he needed more than that and Newt didn't even claim himself the best of all wizards. Although if all continued down this path, it was possible that someone was going to get a taste of his power.

Call it his psychotic nature, but Heckyl couldn't help but getting a rise out of angering this man more. It was just fun to do, if only because the more he got people ( or his monsters angry ) the louder they tended to scream when he tortured them. He was, by all means, not really a villain to take lightly. Somewhere behind that cheerful and almost heroic looking facade had been a mad man who's brain was corrupted centuries ago by a dark energy so much more powerful than anyone could understand.

" Oooh! I love when you hero sort say that! That just gives me more reason to go for it. " He gave a wide toothy smile and a wink to boot. What was he going to do? Really kill him? Please. Heckyl dealt with enough heroes and wanna-bes to know that the only ones that actually meant the threat wouldn't even say it, they'd just do it. Hell, as a villain he'd killed plenty who didn't wait to test his patience like this man had allowed him to do. But, he'd just throw that threat out there again anyway, if only to ruffle more of his feathers.

Heckyl threw his arms up though, hearing that threat to walk away. " Oooh. I better, I didn't wake up today expecting to be poked to death! " He gave a twirl, though light blue eyes had narrowed when he made that full 360 and faced the man again. Was he nuts? And people said he was nuts!? You don't just turn and walk away on people! That's how you get shot in the back! Heckyl did that too, many times! No one liked a traitor, or a coward for that matter!

" And I think not. " He beamed. No. He didn't run away, not when he could just deal with the man, get to the bottom of what made that case move in the first place, and maybe drop by and visit this jerks girlfriend or something. ( If only now out of spite! ) Or he could just go grab a milkshake.. that was a good idea too. So many options.

His hand began to glow with that ' light show ' once more. only this time, the lightning that came from his fingertips was shot directly towards the person in question. Unless he had something similar or the quick reflexes needed to get out of the way, Heckyl was very well positive that he had the upper hand to so to speak. " I've destroyed galaxies! No one stands in the path of Heckyl! Not you, or anyone in this backwoods hell hole! " And he was yelling, though at the same time, it was the very truth. Galaxies had fallen to him, and he was far from finished.

I can't say this enough, I hate duels!

Reacting the way he had was, for a lack of a better world, stupid. Dealing with magical creatures had it's bonuses in the simple fact that nearly all of them had no ability to speak in English or any other human language. Ironically, Jarveys topped the list on creatures who annoyed him but they did tend to say the rudest things anyway. Despite that, he'd very much so prefer a jarvey right about now. After all they didn't make comments about someone's not-girlfriend girlfriend. A cheap shot which left Newt in a very problematic position.

Of course, it was just possible that comments about Tina and whether or not he chose to take that particular bait, were moot. People, like Heckyl, seemed to feed on a level of chaos. Like a giant pixie. That feeling that he had said too much already hadn't left him as the singular taunt, Heckyl added went without any sort of comment of his own. It wasn't like Tina couldn't take care of herself - honestly, right about now, he was more than glad she wasn't some helpless thing! - she really didn't even need him defending her, with or without her knowledge, still the words had been there anyway. And now this jumped up little prat with that annoying blue tipped hair (very much so similar in colour to a pixie come to think of it) was still threatening unpleasant things.

Each and every thought just did something to annoy Newt more. Although the look on Heckyl's face - or really just his face - wasn't helping either. "Over my dead body." Damn! So much for not saying anything! While his mind had agreed that talking anymore would just add fuel to the flames, it seemed his mouth was working for someone else. Still, those words had been deadly serious, even tempered. As much as he hated duels, it didn't take an expert to see where things were headed. They became even more obvious at Heckyl's failure to go anywhere except an on the spot circle. Getting poked to death really was the least of his worries, although there was that one documented case of a young witch in the twelfth century who had defended herself in just than manner against a rather aggressive gnome. If only that would work now.

Alas, he wasn't dealing with a gnome... Resigning himself to the fact that there was no avoiding this fight, Newt sighed. He was ready. Although it was a calculated risk. The difference between magic and whatever this gent played with was unknown. They were both forms of energy at their core but that hardly meant that they'd react the same. Getting vaporized like that innocent tree really wasn't on his to do list either. Still, it was a risk he was going to have to take.

The attack was without mercy, Newt made no mistake at that. The electrics that sped toward him were fatal and met with a protective charm; sparks danced at the melding of the two forces. Numbness crept into his fingers as some of the electrical force trickled through his defenses. Then just like that, it was gone. The attack retracted. No doubt by a very puzzled space outlaw but Newt wasn't going to check on that! Instead he rapidly replied with a "Incarcerous!" sending a length of rope in the direction of his very unpleasant dueling partner before trying to shake some of the feeling back into his fingers

the Devil's wrapping up his hands,
he's getting ready for the show down.
Heckyl never liked surprises, especially not these. He came into the fight assuming that his lightning like energy power would be more than enough to do away with the man who had so been dead set to say no to everything Heckyl wanted. As it were, he really didn't think his mood could have been any more sour, even from the hero who seemed to have a smidge of trash talking of his own. ( Didn't they always!? ) " My friend, that can be easily arranged! " Over his dead body? Hell, he'll hand deliver it to his pretty lady too! He was a real classy guy, after all.

And so, trash talking exchanged, along had come that previous stated surprise. No sooner had he released a strong bolt of his energy, he had found it shoved back where it was dispensed into every which direction by what? A spell!? The next thing Heckyl had known was that he was bound and unable to move save for his feet where he had toppled over from loss of balance. " What is this!? " This wasn't a loose bound at all, it was no better than the chain and shackles that once held him on Sledge's ship.

However, what went on, could easily come off too. He let out a growl despite his gritted teeth, his annoyance now shooting sky high when that same energy began to glow once more at his hands as the binds themselves began to glow until the point that he could at long last break free. That took a lot more energy than he cared to use, so much so he could feel the tattoo on his neck tingling in warning that Snide may very well appear sooner rather than later. But that didn't matter, be it him or Snide, this wizard boy wasn't getting far.

This was a little trickier, but hand rose to shoot upward where the lightning easily set some branches of some overhead trees on fire. With that, a jerk from his other hand had another bolt escaping from his fingertips as the flaming tree itself was ripped downward and towards his foe in an attempt to bury him within it.

Sure, it may be easy for a wizard to escape. But the Space Outlaw was awfully thankful that even an attempt could be made when he backed up with his steps while keeping watch to see if he had managed to pull through the victor. A cocky smile raced along his lips as icy blue eyes closed for a moment and reopened.
