This was it.

If he could get his hands on a unicorn horn of all things, the sort of money it could sell for would feed him for months! And as if by some miracle, such an item just so happened to belong to some Lord around these parts. So beings as Jefferson was in the area, well, who could resist? It wasn’t exactly every day he got to steal items with actual magical properties, those were bigger jobs. Dangerous too, as magical items often belonged to magical people. That was why he usually took on things like that with William. But even though his friend wasn’t here right now, he was certain he could still pull this off.

He had been assured that the family who owned the mansion weren’t dragons, monsters or crazy sorcerers of any kind whatsoever. Just ordinary people. With a tonne of money, and a unicorn horn apparently hanging above the fireplace. Just lovely. He hoped there wouldn’t be any nasty surprises anyway, as thieving took a whole lot of effort and he didn’t really want to find himself with a rope hanging round his neck in the morning. And that would be the better of the possible outcomes of this little event.

And so he began, as all great heists do, at night.

With the help of some rope and a pocket knife, breaking in through one of the windows surprisingly proved to be the easy part. He managed to prise open window, and swinging himself inside he landed on a round rug with a soft thud causing him to freeze for a solid minute. Listening for any sound of movement in the building, he finally decided it was safe to begin. The room he was in was thankfully, still as empty as it had been before he entered it. So as silently as he could, he pocketed his knife and carefully moved to the other side of the room and out into the hall way.

Moving as softly as he could down a flight of stairs, from speaking to the right people (using the reward of a bucket load of money as an incentive) he had a vague idea of the layout of this place. And as long as no one had lied or betrayed him he’d soon be out of here. The man eventually made it to the drawing room, a large piano stood near the entrance which he made a clear point of avoiding. He certainly did not want to fall on that. But he had made it. Just ahead of him, as he had been told was the fireplace. A plaque hung above with the unicorn horn nailed to it.

“Perfect” he breathed aloud and dropped his satchel onto the ground as he walked faster towards the object. Grinning from ear to ear and standing on his tiptoes, he took the plaque down, staring at it in his hands. And honestly, the horn didn't actually look at all that special in person. It was sort of spiralled in shape, but still, no magical sparkles which was kind of disappointing. He shrugged, the thing was meant to have medicinal properties anyway, he was sure some idiot would still buy it.

The truth was, that he would have never seen himself trying to steal a Unicorn Horn. I don't know. When he escaped from the orphanage to begin a life of money and joys, he never thought that he would reach to the point of trying to steal a damn Horn. The only thing that he tried to steal by now had been food, money, and obviously value gadgets. At first stealing had seemed like the hardest thing that he had to do in his whole life, because without knowing how to do such job, they always ended up catching him, but after several weeks of practice, he had managed to become one of most wanted young thieves. If he should feel proud or ashamed for said achievement, was a mystery that surely he himself wouldn't know how to solve.

The mansion in which allegedly the Horn was resting had not surprised him exactly, although he assumed that this was because he had already seen large buildings before. I mean, Corona's castle had always been something that he had admired... The structure..., it was a true work of art of construction. Besides, not to mention one of the many wishes that he wanted to fulfill as soon as he had enough money was to buy a castle. A castle and an island, a beautiful island with palm trees and coconuts, which would be bordered by huge piles of money. Wasn't that the dream of any child?.

Flynn obviously waited until night fell to sneak into the mansion, since if he decided to gatecrash when it was day, he ran the risk of being discovered. Clearly, that did not mean that he was invisible at night... But hey, it certainly was much easier to go unnoticed. He did not need any kind of rope to climb up to the window, as he had managed to climb. You see, climbing with a rope was obviously much easier than climbing with nothing, only with hands and feet, but he did not have any kind of rope, and frankly he had not had time to steal one before planning his theft.

Eugene landed on the floor with a thud, and without wasting any more time, he began to walk by the mansion, hiding in corners, doing his best to make even his footsteps numb. He camouflaged with the shadows, his eyes having been accustomed to the darkness of the place. Going down the stairs, his care and lightness became more noticeable, because he did not want to start it to start a squeaking as soon as he walked down them. After all that, everything was as before. Camouflage, avoid objects... And frown. Frown by what his eyes had located in front of him. Another man had the Horn in his hands, watching it as if he had just found the Holy Grail.

Flynn approached slowly towards him, his eyes locating the satchel the boy had left on the floor. With a smile, he seized it, because you see, his work was to steal, after all. "It doesn't seem that special when you see it firsthand, uh?" He asked, looked askance at the boy. His voice was low, of course, because he didn't want to wake the occupants up.

NOTES: It was perfect! I'm sorry for my post, it's bad, I know. And also, sorry for lateness! >.<.

Jefferson couldn’t believe that what he was holding was real. An actual horn from a unicorn, like at one point in the enchanted forest, there had been a live, breathing animal who this had been a part of. And he almost felt a little guilty about holding it now. As even if the objects appearance was a little disappointing, it didn’t change the fact that however many years ago it belonged to a frickin’ Unicorn! It was crazy. And now, it was his and he’d be able to sell it the highest bidder and live richly for the rest of his life. Well, that was the plan anyway - for once he’d gotten out of this place alive of course.

Suddenly a low voice spoke, causing him to quite literally jump out of his skin.

Startled, he spun around on his feet quickly to see who it was, nearly dropping the horn in the process. His heart pounded in his chest as he just about kept his balance, desperately hoping that whoever this person was, didn’t actually live here. Or liked arresting people for that matter. He might have gasped or made some kind of noise in shock, as it is very hard not to when you’re surprised. But with much effort to keep silent (he didn’t exactly want to wake up the whole mansion), he managed to just let out a small gasp, which came out as a sort of ‘croak’ instead.

But this other person, didn’t look like a tubby lord at all. He was very young and just simply couldn’t live here, unless he was some kind of servant? Nah. Something about this guy told him that he didn’t belong here just as much as he himself did. So rather uncomfortably he smiled, glancing down at the non-magic looking magical object and shrugged before looking back up at the other boy, “Hmm, I suppose you’ve seen many of these things then?” he waved the horn at the guy, probably a little too careless with that move. Since he had managed to get the object first, so this horn therefore belonged to him now. This guy was too late! Ha. But not for one second did he believe that this kid was an expert on such items. Still, he was quite right about it though, it didn’t at all seem that special by just looking at it. If he didn’t know what such an object could do, he’d believe that all this had been a complete waste of time.

After a moments pause, his eyes trailed down to see what the boy was holding….his satchel! He frowned in annoyance, mentally kicking himself for dropping it near the door in all his awe. Luckily, he didn’t really have items of value inside of it, and he supposed he could always use the Unicorn Horn to buy new stuff. But still, he lived out of that damn bag. Everything he owned was in there and he couldn’t let some stranger just take it from him like this. Jefferson gritted his teeth before sighing heavily, “You’ll find there’s nothing worth taking in there” he blinked, using the horn to gesture to his bag. Not entirely sure if he should attempt grabbing it back off him or not, he didn’t exactly want to cause a racket, and that piano was still far too close for comfort anyway.

Flynn managed to endure his laughter, to see how the other stranger had been too surprised by seeing him there. He could not blame him, since if he would have been the one who had arrived first he'd also have been a little too scared when seeing someone else there. After all, you should take into account that both of them were in a mansion, where people who surely wouldn't act precisely well before two young men trying to steal their unicorn horn lived. Sometimes Eugene would like people to see theft in a completely different way. If someone stole from you, it was because you owned something that interested them. You had to feel proud, right?.

When he heard the boy's question, Flynn shrugged, not knowing how to exactly answer it. He had not just seen much of them, but he had seen some. "Not many, but the supposed magical gadgets always disappoint with their appearance. I guess that them disappointing you it's better, right? I mean, who'd think that that horn is really magical? It's like a defense mechanism" he simply said, returning the smile that the stranger had given him in the first place. Flynn didn't want to steal the loot that the first had found but, he neither wanted to leave with empty hands. Thus it was not how things were going to work.

'You’ll find there’s nothing worth taking in there'

He raised both eyebrows at such words, because by his frown he would swear that it had not amused him at all the little thing about a complete stranger taking his satchel. "Seriously? nothing? then I suppose you wouldn't mind me staying with it, would you? Mine is a little too worn, we could make an exchange!" at least he wasn't lying. His own satchel was already too wore out, and he knew that he would soon have to steal a new one, and he wasn't concerned about that - but he was not going to return this boy his satchel so easy when he coincidentally just needed a new one. It was as if fate were telling him that that exact satchel should be the one replacing his old one.

A defence mechanism?

Jefferson raised an eyebrow in his amusement, although he did suppose that the boy had got a point there. Since, he admittedly would have never sought out an object such as this one based purely on its looks, unless there was something really special about it. Magic for example. Admittedly, the Unicorn Horn wasn’t exactly an object he’d think much of if he’d simply stumbled across it, and would probably never have even bothered to give it a second look. So yeah. Okay. ‘Defence’.

Still, he’d gotten here first! And he couldn’t help but want to gloat to the boy, because clearly he’d been after the same object too. But he didn’t want to be cruel, he wasn’t mean (or at least never intended to be) and this stranger would have gone to just as much trouble as he had done to just get here. So that would be a little unfair. And it would be foolish for him to suddenly start celebrating now anyway, since he was kind of still in the mansion. Plus he hadn’t even sold the damn thing yet! And to do that he’d quite like to get out of this place, alive and still in one piece thank you very much. Something about being hung for stealing didn’t really appeal to him after all.

If it wasn’t for the situation that the two of them were in, he might have grabbed his satchel back from this stranger by now. Somehow anyway, since he wasn’t exactly great in a fight so it would have probably been more of a hit and run sort of a thing. It seemed that he’d have to convince this man by talking instead, not that he wanted to come to any sort of exchange with this stranger. There was nothing he wanted to give up, since well, everything he owned was in that bag. These items weren’t particularly important, or worth selling, but still he’d hate to see everything go for one stupid heist. It was all just silly. And embarrassing for starters, what kind of thief was he, if he himself got stolen from in his whole process of stealing?

He let out an irritated sigh, stubbornly pushing the horn through his belt to keep it in place and safe, out of the way for now. “Give. It. Back.” He finally managed to speak quietly through gritted teeth, before taking in a deep breath in effort to calm him down. He felt like an idiot getting so worked up over something as worthless as a satchel, “Why don’t you just take something else from here?” he gestured to the whole room, “It’s not like they haven’t got the gold to spare” he then suggested, forcing another smile, although keeping his gaze firmly locked onto his bag. There were surely so many other, better things here that would be worth stealing, surely? Hell, he’d even help the kid find something if he must, if only he would just leave his things alone anyway.

let's make a deal
Flynn didn't use to... do any of that, and by that he was referring to steal from a person who was stealing. Mostly because whenever he snaked in homes or anywhere where they had hidden some valuable object, he had been alone, completely, so he never had the need to you know, try to convince the other person to give him said valuable object. Although at that time Flynn was not convincing the boy of anything.

He knew it wasn't fair, as another boy had arrived before him, and therefore, he had seized the horn before. But arriving early to steal didn't mean the object was yours. He could always scream and thus awaken the true owners of that horn. He could say that he simply was a innocent child who had been trying to stop his friend from stealing the horn, he could accuse him - because after all, he had not even touched the horn. And he knew how to act and lie perfectly.

"Give it back? I thought that you had said that there was nothing of value hiding inside here. Why do you care so much about this old satchel? you could buy a new one with the money that you will be able to have when selling that horn" he shrugged, without having any intention of giving the satchel back. Flynn was not interested in what it might contain, he just wanted to horn! and not even the horn itself, he wanted the money that he could get with the horn.

"True, they seem to be quite rich.. in everything! But what I want, has already been taken. You have it" he replied innocently, before sighing heavily. "Look, friend, if you want your satchel back so badly - I propose a deal. We share the loot! the horn must be worth a fortune, I am sure that by dividing the money we both will end up satisfied. So I can buy me a new satchel, and you can stay yours plus the well deserved money" a quick smile crossed his face, thinking about how he would betray him later on. "Deal?".

He just didn’t get it. Why couldn’t this kid just take something (not his satchel) and just get on with it? It was his own tough luck for being late, and it wasn’t as if he was stupid enough just to hand the horn over to him like that. Not after all this effort that he had put into actually finding such an object in the first place! He wasn’t about to leave this place empty handed after all, and not without the Unicorn Horn. Or his satchel. It wasn’t as if this other thief couldn’t just steal some gold or something and go buy himself another satchel that way, if it was just a bag he desired then he didn’t need the horn. So it would be wasted on him anyway. And he doubted that you’d find a bag that was worth even close to the same as a magical object such as this.

It was just stubbornness.

And clearly this satchel thief wasn’t going to be easily swayed into doing what he wanted, he was being difficult and this just irritated Jefferson further. Because this was just silly, and he knew that he probably shouldn’t be getting this worked up over something as stupid as this. He had the horn safe now, so none of this should really matter right? Wrong. Of course this all mattered! And not because of them both being equally perverse about the whole situation, and the obvious awkwardness of it all. He couldn’t lose that satchel, he just…couldn’t. And it wasn’t even for any particular item that he carried in it, or even because the bag was worth anything. He hadn’t lied about that, as honestly there was nothing truly special about it all.

Not really. But to him, this bag was everything. And he felt lame for admitting that, but this bag was perhaps the one thing that he’d never replaced, never upgraded. It meant a lot in a strange way, and so he’d looked after it. As much as he could anyway, since that bag had been through every scrape with him and survived. Just about. So it was easy to get attached, and he knew that was stupid, and it was just a bag. But this bag was a history book to Jefferson, he could recall all his adventures in that bag, as every scratch, tear and badly patched up hole told some story. And without that, he was in some ways, just alone and all this was pointless. He let out a frustrated sigh and shook his head firmly, “Not to you maybe” he wouldn’t understand it, and anyway, whatever reason he might have for wanting it, the satchel was still his!

Still, this stranger still wouldn’t just give up. In fact, if anything now, he seemed completely disinterested in everything but the satchel and the Unicorn horn. And he understood that other riches possibly couldn’t make up for the horn, but surely it was a lot better than nothing? Perhaps this kid just wanted to make things stressful for him, and them both hanging around here like this was not good. He wasn’t exactly fond of staying inside the place he was robbing for longer than he could help, so this was seriously not fun. It wasn’t even that he was scared, more so that he wasn’t completely stupid. At least, he didn’t think he was. “Well welcome to the real world” he responded stiffly, rolling his eyes as the other man explained that he still wanted the horn. And really, he got that, but as he had just said, he wasn’t going to give it to him! Why was he still trying?

And Friend? Well, this guy was seriously wrong about that. But still he listened anyway, mainly because he wanted to hurry whatever the hell this was up so he could leave. Preferably with both the horn and the satchel. “I’m not your ‘friend’” He began before sighing heavily, “But I suppose…if this is really worth as much as they say, it wouldn’t exactly hurt to split it” he tapped the horn that was still lodged through his belt in thought, “I want my satchel back first though” he raised an eyebrow, as he waited expectantly. He didn’t trust this stranger one bit, especially not now. So perhaps this deal wouldn’t exactly end up being as it seemed, as it had crossed his mind that this boy wouldn’t keep his word. And so he had no plan to actually keep his either, but he did want to get out of this mansion. And if agreeing to this stupid ‘deal’ would get his satchel back, then fine. After a pause he returned the smile with a small nod, extending his arm forwards as if waiting for the boy to pass him what was his.
