Her heart pounded in her chest. The wind whistled in her ears, somehow drowning out the swish of blood thrumming against her eardrums with each pounding thud of heartbeat. Even though it was cold and snowy, she was sweating; she was hot. The heat traveled through her legs and burned her calves. It propelled her forward. She felt alive. She felt real. This world was insane and the peoples actions (at least some of them) matched the madness plaguing this world. But it didn’t mean things were hopeless. That was not the case. That would never be the case – not for her at least.

She saw good. She saw light. She saw hope. Those things – the good, the light, the hope – drove her forward. Something had to keep a person moving. Why couldn’t it be the sanity that was kindness? Why couldn’t it drive more people, too? Goodness beget goodness more times than not, but it didn’t seem to last very long. There was always something marring the light. But against the darkness, light pushed back. It was a constant state of tug-of-war. Good would win. She couldn’t imagine it any other way. It had to be that way. It just had to - come hell or high water.

Maybe it was her nature talking. Maybe it was being surrounded by friends and lovers. Maybe it was her destiny to see this in the world. How would she know? She didn’t really. She didn’t really try and figure it out. It seemed like a waste of time and energy. Saving the world (or at least saving one person if she were to skip hyperboles) took enough exertion as it was to focus on what her life was actually supposed to entail. So did this running thing she was doing, if she was being completely honest with herself. Running took a lot of concentration.

However, her brain had strayed. Thoughts had not been on running or the surroundings. They had drifted to life. That brought unawareness as much as she hated to admit it. A branch had blown free from its designated spot attached to a tree and landed in her path. From a long gone gust of wind the branch was broken and once the breeze changed directions, it was discarded so that some unsuspecting person could trip over it and land on the rough pavement. That unsuspecting person was she. Tennis shoe catching the branch she went flying.

Hands outstretched, she caught herself. However, the impact of her palms with the ground made her wince. The impact of her knees with the ground made her hiss. Falling was not fun – not fun at all. She pushed herself up and stared at her dirtied and bloodied palms. They looked worse than they actually were. She glanced down at her legs. The black polyester cloth was ripped across the knees. Seeing the red stuff ooze from her knees, she wrinkled her nose. While cleaning the wounds was needed, she hated tending to them. The thought made her queasy. “I am such a klutz,” she whispered unaware anyone heard her.

Flower gleam and glow.

The day seemed nice enough to play hide and seek with Pascal, like she used to have done back in the tower. It was one of the only ways to entertain herself, with her 'mother' banishing her up there.

She just started to run as she heard Pascal moving through the bushes. He may be able to blend in physically, but, he still wasn't quiet at times. Rapunzel had managed to find him pretty easily, and, now it was time for her to hide.

Luckily there were a few places to go to in this park. Rapunzel kept her hands in her pockets as she just walked around for a moment. Her eyes then just went to the people who were around in this park.

Rapunzel noticed that this place seemed pretty full of people, which she didn't mind. Since she had spent a lifetime alone before. Even if she was still taking time to get to know the people in this town.

Soon, Rapunzel jumped when she heard a loud crash. Her gaze then went back to the path, and, she noticed someone lying on the ground. This wasn't good, Rapunzel made her way over towards her.

Rapunzel didn't know what was happening, but, she had noticed that the woman seemed to have hurt herself through some means. Not seeing anyone else around anymore, Rapunzel knew that she was probably going to have to be the one to help.

She sat down next to the woman, and, placed her arm around her. "Are you ok? That branch seemed to have come out of nowhere." Rapunzel looked at the cuts, knowing she could heal them straight away pretty easily, but, she didn't want to freak the woman out just yet.

She could not believe she tripped. Although, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise because grace was something Emma lacked when running. However, falling flat on the knees did not normally happen. Skidding usually happened instead. She felt silly for tripping so gloriously.

She stared at her ripped pants and almost felt like crying. There wasn’t a reason to weep, but the pants were brand new. They were comfortable. They fit her well. Now they were ruined. Maybe magic could fix them? She had never tried her skills in that way.

She had dirt on her hands. She had dirt on her knees. It was a good thing she did not shower yet. She hadn’t thought a run after a shower seemed like a good idea. Emma would’ve just gotten sweaty and needed a second one either. Her assumption had proved her right. She could and would shower when she got home. In the meantime, she dusted her knees off with her fingertips and wiped her dusty palms on her legs.

She stared at the branch for a long time. It was a stupid branch for tripping her. It shouldn’t have fallen. Of course there was no stopping nature. If a branch wanted to fall it fell with no questions asked.

She heard someone approach. She looked away from the branch. There was a young blond woman standing before her. She smiled as the woman offered assistance. “Oh, I am just fine. My ego may be a little bruised. My hands and knees are a little dirty and skinned, but I did not break anything. I just ripped my pants,” Emma assured her and laughed a little at the comment about the tree branch. “Oh, it’s just nature. Branches break off trees all the time. I heard it break off. I just didn’t have enough time to skirt around it.”

Rapunzel gave the woman a soft smile as she looked at her. She had heard from around town who this woman was, she was the Sheriff, and, also the daughter of Snow White and that man Prince Charming. That was the man who had finally freed her from the tower where she had been trapped her whole life. So maybe she felt that she owed it to Charming.

She stood in front of her looking at the woman with a soft smile. Rapunzel knew that she had the ability to help fix this woman's injury almost immediately, but, she didn't want to push her into it, or freak her out by showing her that magic. “Well that's good then at least. It means you won't have to try and get to the hospital in order to try and get it fixed.” Rapunzel kept her hands in her pockets as she smiled at the woman “Well I guess that makes sense. We all have those moments don't we?”

Rapunzel knew that she had had moments like that a few times since she had come to this town, but, that was only because she didn't know what she was doing with most of the stuff here, and, while she knew that Eugene was trying to help her, she didn't want to have to ask him while she was still trying to figure out how she felt about him.

Shaking those thoughts out of her head, Rapunzel gave a soft smile in the woman's direction. “Do you want some help up, or are you just going to stay down on the ground like that?” Rapunzel asked, giving an innocent smile.
