<p>For a long time Hank had resided himself to being a single father who lost the love of his life. Years of being strong for Violet, raising her as best he could, he never imagined one day they would be reunited with Amanda. Seeing Amanda back from the dead certainly made Hank feel even better about deciding to stay in Storybrooke and raise Violet there, despite the last year of zombie attacks and the other things that seemed to go wrong in Storybrooke every few months. He'd convinced himself that at least in Storybrooke she had Henry and an entire town full of heroes looking out for her.

<p>Another perk to living in Storybrooke was that outside of helping the heroes take care of the occasional zombie attacks on the town and his job at the Stables, he had far more time to just be a father to his daughter without all the duties of being a Camelot Knight. He often enjoyed meeting Violet after school and taking her to Granny's for an early dinner or sometimes just a snack and a milkshake, at least on the days she wasn't preoccupied with school activities, friends or Henry. He had managed to send her a text earlier that day to mention he'd be by after school to walk her to Granny's. He acted like it was under the guise to just catch up and get a milkshake for some father/daughter time, though really ever since she'd been taken back in October by the zombies and he and Amanda had to go save her, he'd been extra worried about her walking home from school alone.

<p>He stood across the street from Storybrooke High School, leaning up against a lamp post, waiting patiently for the school bell to ring.

Most days Hank was happy with his decision to stay in Storybrooke and raise Violet there, other days he let his worries get the better of him and sometimes wondered if they'd have been safer back in Camelot. Despite the occasional dangers, he knew it was where they belonged and not just because Violet had an interest in the boy Henry or because his wife, Violet's mother, had come back from the dead a couple of months earlier and was back in their lives, but because it felt right living in Storybrooke. To him it was the best of both worlds, getting to be back in the realm where he was born, yet also keeping close ties to the realm he had made home and started his family and really found himself.

Adjusting to life again in his home realm had its ups and downs, the world hadn't stopped advancing since all those decades ago when Hank found himself in Camelot and some of the new technologies weren't exactly easy for him to learn, but he was trying. One thing he had missed was his music, something that even though Camelot-Hank would or should find a waste of time, the old Hank who had defied his father and gone off to pursue a musical career had loved music very much. Picking up the guitar again hadn't been easy, and for months now he had been doing his best to keep it a secret. He only played when he was working at the stables when no one else was around, and wouldn't even play for his daughter, at least not until he felt he was decent again at it. Some of it he supposed had been easy to pick up, remembering most of the chords and he found that since being a knight in Camelot hadn't softened him or his hands; picking up the guitar hadn't been nearly as hard on his fingers as it had when he first picked it up as a kid many years earlier.

Now that he had been playing again for well over a year he was getting a lot braver about it and wasn't minding so much if people heard him play. He'd also decided that he needed to learn some new songs, as all the songs he'd known from memory were feeling a bit tiresome playing all the time. Since he was only doing half a day at the stables, he decided to take the afternoon and go to the music store in town. The bell on the door jangled as he headed inside and went immediately over to the rows that contained the sheet music, stopping in front of the guitar section of sheet music. He ran his finger along the rows of music, recognising some songs, others not so much. He was so focused on the sheet music in front of him, he wasn't really paying attention to anything else around him. He hummed a generic tune to himself lowly under his breath.

<p>There were days when Hank wasn't sure if it really was the safest thing deciding to stay here in Storybrooke and raise his daughter here after all the crazy events with Emma and then the heroes taking off to the Underworld, things had been relatively quite for awhile once everyone got back from the Underworld, besides the portals dropping people left and right, but that was more chaos than dangerous. Now things seemed to be getting worse again, something dark was on the horizon, what started as people spotting a few zombies turned into an all out battle at one point months earlier and now an entire castle had appeared overnight deep in the forest where more zombies were emerging from.

<p>He worried about his daughter constantly, he didn't want to lose her after all, and now Amanda was back in their lives he was scared to death something might happen to her and he would lose her all over again. He wasn't sure he'd survive losing his wife a second time, and the worry he felt showed in how much he was always asking both Violet and Amanda where they were gong to be, when they'd be home, making sure they always carried a dagger on them 'just in case'. It helped that many in the town knew him and Violet, so there were others to look out for his family as well but that didn't make him worry less about their safety.

<p>As Hank got ready for the day, he heard Violet downstairs getting ready to leave for school, instead of going downstairs to see her off, since he was still just in his robe after having gotten out of the shower in the upstairs bathroom, he went to the window that looked out on the street that Violet walked down so he could call out to her goodbye and be safe and all that parenty stuffs. As he got to the window the next sight filled him with utter dread. His daughter, being surrounded by those blasted zombies and carried off. He could hear her screams and he raced downstairs, nearly falling down them in the process, and outside, but by the time he got outside, the zombies were already so far along there was no way he'd catch up to them, and he was just in his robe and had no weapons. He cursed under his breath and ran inside to throw on some clothes. He'd heard there were people being taken to the castle, so if the zombies were bothering to abduct her instead of just harming or killing her, that was probably where they were going. Realising he left his sword at the stables from the night before, forgetting to bring it home with him, he rushed off to the stables to get his gear, and remembered that he'd probably find Amanda there.

<p>He raced in and practically flew into the office, taking the door nearly off its hinges as he threw it open in a rush. He called out as he looked for his gear.

<p><b>"Amanda!?!?! Are you here?!?! They've got Violet!! I've got to go to the castle to get her back!!!!"</b>

Once upon a not so long ago time, Hank had the job of being a knight, sure as well as raising his daughter, but a knight none the less. He fought in battles, he aided Arthur his King, he helped to guard Camelot. Since being back in the Land Without Magic, he'd found himself with his only real day to day duties being to raise his daughter. Which he loved Violet with every ounce of his being, so that wasn't a problem in the least, but over time he'd found himself needing more, especially when there weren't any threats to help the heroes deal with. He eventually found that working at the stables was the most relaxing job, as well as helping to pay the bills he now found himself with, of course one perk to working at the stables managed to have the added benefit of free board for his daughter's horse. It also reminded him of home though, his Camelot home. Sure it hadn't been his first home, but it had been the place he really made a true home for himself, found love, had a family. Even though he didn't regret making the decision to remain in Storybrooke, to raise Violet here, he did sometimes miss the simplicity of living in a world like Camelot.

Another positive of being back in this realm he had access to a guitar again, granted there had been things like guitars in Camelot, but for the most part he'd always been busy with surviving and being a knight to think much about music. Now that he was in Storybrooke though, he'd managed to get his hands on a guitar and start to get back into the hang of things. It wasn't easy at first, it was like learning all over again, but eventually he started feeling back to his old self when it came to music, though it wasn't something he generally advertised around that he could do. Things had gotten even better when something happened that Hank never could have dreamt would actually happen to him, that he could be so lucky, but his wife was back in his life. Not that it was a complete surprise, people had been coming back from the dead ever since Rumplestiltskin had done whatever dark magic he'd needed to do to get the heroes out of the Underworld, but Hank never imagined, of all the millions of dead souls, that he would get his wife back who had died a few decades earlier in the Enchanted Forest. His family was complete again, for the most part.

Today was like most days, see Violet off to school, get to the stables, see the horses all got their breakfast first of course, and then on to the cleaning and mucking. Earlier while he'd taken a break he'd taken some time to play his guitar, he found that many of the horses found it soothing, at least they always seemed to calm way down when he played, it was especially useful when the zombies had upset them or when there was a bad storm. Once he was done mucking out some of the stalls and had fed all the horses, he decided to take a break in one of the empty stalls that was just currently being occupied with bails of hay. He had decided to grab his guitar and decided to play something.

He strummed a few chords and then stopped to scratch at his beard, or well it was growing in again, it wasn't nearly as thick as it had been when he first arrived in Storybrooke. He had finally decided to shave it off a week ago, but it bugged him not having facial hair so he was letting it grow back again. Plus it wasn't as hard to keep up the shaved look as it was just having facial hair.

He leaned back against the hay and tuned his guitar and eventually started playing a song.

Now things seemed to be getting worse again, something dark was on the horizon, what started as people spotting a few zombies turned into an all out battle at one point a month or two earlier. Zombies attacking with some dark figure leading them was definitely something to worry about when he was trying to raise a teenage daughter. He wanted to keep her safe and ever since the attacks got more frequent, he was constantly harping on where she was going, when she would be back and if she remembered to bring the dagger he'd given her.

<p>He worried about his daughter constantly, he couldn't bare to lose her like he'd lost his wife, his daughter was all he had left. He knew she wouldn't want to go back to the Enchanted Forest even if there was a way to do it, not since she was dating that Mills boy Henry, and she'd finally seemed to start settling into the new world and school. He was in protective dad mode though these days, in overdrive, insisting she never went anywhere alone, even if it was just Henry with her. Insisting that she call even if she were going to be five minutes late. He was patrolling again as well.

<p>Of course, now it seemed he wouldn't be raising her alone after all, his wife was back from the dead. He was still having a hard time soaking it all in, dangers on one side, his wife on the other. He was so glad to have her back but they'd been apart for so long, and though he had been far from over her, so much had changed that he was scared to death she wouldn't want to be with him any more. What if she had fallen out of love with him, what if he was too old for her now, he had aged a bunch since she had last seen him, at least five or ten years or so, he wasn't sure since the curses made it a bit confusing.

<p>Today Violet was off hanging out with Henry and her mother, so Hank decided to go for a walk in the forest, more like a patrol really, but he wanted some time to think about everything going on. He even suited up into his old Camelot attire to be safe in case he did face zombies, his sword strapped to his side. He'd already tended to the horses at the stable, so he really didn't have much else to do besides worry about his daughter. He headed off into the woods, not planning on running into anyone, but he tried to remain alert to his surroundings.
