tag OPEN / Notes: April Fools, James has Boobies

One thing that James did not like about being in a serious relationship with someone, was the errands. Tinkerbell had to work in Thomas's store today, so she'd made a short little list of things she needed him to do for her while he was off. It was times like these he often wondered why he put up with it, then remembered, oh right, he was sort of kind of mostly pretty sure in love with the obnoxious blonde faery. Stupid love and all the stupid errands that came with it. After dropping off some things at the dry cleaner's, he headed to the store to pick up a few things.

As he was walking around the small store looking for the items on his list, something suddenly felt very odd. He couldn't really figure out what was wrong though, but suddenly he felt strange and tingly. Suddenly he almost even felt like, was he shorter? That couldn't be, a person didn't just shrink a few inches all at once. He turned to ask someone near him where something was that was on his list, and suddenly he stopped, his mouth gaped open. When he went to speak, a female voice came out.

"What the hell, something's wrong, my voice, something is wrong with my......" He looked down, and suddenly realised he had boobs. He dropped the basket of stuff he was carrying, it clattered to the floor loudly, stuff spilled out into the aisle. His hands went to his boobs, yep, those were boobs and they were real. What the hell was going on. This was a dream, that was it, he was still in bed having a nightmare.

He turned and left the market, looking up and down the street frantically, his long blonde hair blowing in the breeze, getting into his face. Gah, how did girls deal with all this long hair in their faces.

thanks!

It was wrong and illegal and so very, very petty, but Permanent Rose had still run off with her prize. It tasted really weird, smelt worse and she didn't like to think of it actually being in her mouth when she thought of where it had been (Rosie Palmer of Storybrooke Maine was in full ascendance there, Permanent Rose the naval lieutenant had seen and eaten worse and thought herself lucky to get it) but she still charged down the street with the shoe clamped firmly between her jaws.

The shoe belonged to her would-be mother-in-law. That is, Permanent Rose would have her for a mother in law while Lady Tremaine wanted Drizella to beak off whatever understanding they had and marry a prince. Or a duke. Or, at this point, even a count if he was wealthy enough. At some point Permanent Rose had given up trying to impress the woman as a lost cause but she'd tried to at least be civil to her and today?

Today had started out weird.

The first thing she'd noticed was that everything smelt more. More intense, more varied, more detailed, more layered... eve more historical as she smelt things that had happened hours to as much as a week ago. When she'd opened her eyes she had not a first realised her perspective was all wrong because she'd slammed them shut again against the confusing whirl of wrongness. Wrong colours, intensities, light, textures, and everything somehow not as important as what was going on with her nose. Trying to stand up and stagger through to the bathroom in case splashing water on her face would help resulted in her landing on the floor in a tangle of limbs.

It was kind of hard to ignore that you'd been turned into a dog when you were trying to negotiate standing up on four limbs and not step on a tail on the way up. Eventually she managed it and promptly went over again after a few shuffling steps but by the time she managed to escape her bedroom via an open window an hour later she thought she'd kind of got the hang of it.

Naturally her first port of call had been the town centre, where all sorts of chaos was breaking loose. People were in the wrong bodies or had suddenly undergone a sex change or had vanished without a trace and a number of the animals hanging around were, like her, the wrong species entirely but unable to communicate this. She'd been on the verge of resigning herself to a long and boring day hanging around waiting for someone to realise what had happened and come up with a way to fix it when a stray scent caught her attention. Lady Tremaine, out of the house and standing around being condescending at people.

It hadn't been hard to break in, she knew their maid liked the fresh air and left a window stood open. Getting the closet open had been a bit more problematic but nothing she hadn't been able to overcome. After that it had been a simple matter of stealing every left shoe and burying them in assorted locations. A few had been in the garden, a couple in a recently dug field and a few more in random flowerbeds. The one she was carrying - the last one she was going to steal, someone had come in the front door just as she'd been wriggling out the window - was destined for the park.

Or at least it would have been if someone hadn't stepped right out in front of her, causing her to slam on breaks on all four feet, skid into the distressed-smelling woman's legs and drop the shoe, whereupon it flew under a market stall.

As James got outside, he was a bit frantic, at first he didn't even notice the dog coming towards him, or the shoe as it went sliding off in another direction. James just looked up and down the street trying to figure out what the hell he was going to do. He was pretty sure Tink was at work at the toy store, he could go there, ask her if she knew what was going on. Then again he wasn't really sure he wanted his girl friend to see him as a chick, he didn't even know yet how he felt about being a chick, and at this point he wasn't sure if this was reversible or not or how long he'd be stuck like this. It hadn't even occurred to him yet how he'd finally know what it was like to have his own set of boobs, or any of the fun things guys often joked about.

He sighed and turned to look down at the black and white mutt near him, he wasn't really a pet person, never had been. It wasn't as if he didn't like animals, back when he was a prince in the Enchanted Forest the castle kept hunting hounds around and James had been decent to them, even if they weren't pets kept inside the castle itself but working dogs kept in some other building out near the stables.

"Hey, uh, doggy, I think you lost your shoe....."
He nodded his head towards the shoe that had gone flying, the dog looked a bit flustered, or scared, or something James wasn't really sure, it wasn't as if he was good with animals, not like Tink always seemed to be.

Thick nails clicked as her feet scrabbled for purchase in a way that would have shredded the skin of her normal feet, her front legs shooting forwards and taking her front with them as her back legs tucked under her and her tail swung through the air as she twisted. The whole world flew in front of her nose and her legs were still moving and suddenly she was bounding away from the woman and nearly into someone else before her momentum stopped.

For a long moment she stood gingerly on all four legs, eyes studying the blessedly still ground and trying to work out what had just happened.

She gave up when the woman started talking to her and she looked up, a confused, quizzical expression on her face. Shoe? Oh, yes. Shoe. That thing. Her shoe. That she was going to go bury in the park. Just as soon as she'd regained the confidence to walk, because clearly these legs had minds of their own. If she'd been steering in the last few seconds she'd probably have gone right over and right now would be lying on her back stunned, breathless and staring at the sky. No, eyes faced a different way, she'd have been staring at upside down ankles.

So, this was preferable. Sort of. She just needed a moment. In the middle of a sidewalk with at least one person staring at her. "Bark?" She suggested tentatively, which thankfully came out as an actual bark. Or a bark and a whine, anyway, as she very gingerly tucked her back legs under her and sat down.

Wow, this dog was acting, well, ok so in all honesty James had never been much for pets. Sure the castle where he stayed when he'd been a Prince and King George had been his father did have hunting dogs, but he only saw the dogs when they were hunting, other than that the dogs were always in their kennels being looked after by servants, not in the castle itself. He didn't really know how to deal with pets. If he had to guess, the bark and sort of whine made it seem like maybe something was wrong, not to mention the funny way it was acting, a bit freaked out would be a good way to put it with all the running around randomly like it was scared or confused. Could dogs be confused? James sure as fuck didn't know, so he, in the current feminine body he was stuck in, knelt down in front of the whining black and white dog and held out a hand cautiously, he didn't want to find out the thing was rabid or prone to biting people after all.

"Hey, it's ok, calm down, is your owner around here, are you lost, why the hell am I even talking to you like this, you're just a dog, it's not like you can understand me. "
He sighed, hearing his voice come out so high pitched was just obnoxious and unnerving, maybe that's why he found himself talking to the dog, because nothing else made sense today, so hey, why not just add to the crazy and talk to the dog like a truly crazy person. It looked like a nice dog though, there was no collar, didn't people usually put collars on their dog if they had owners, odd. Other people were occasionally coming and going from the market that James had just run out of, but no one seemed to pay any attention to him or the dog.

While Permanent Rose was having a crisis involving too many legs the young woman facing her was having some sort of crisis of her own. Possibly. Some people did babble and Permanent Rose's father would happily talk for hours if given the chance but this babble did not sound like routine babble (coming from a large family and cramped navy ships she could vouch that the two sounded very different in tone and content) and thus the next most likely suspect was stress which was often caused by some sort of crisis. Ergo, the woman was having some sort of crisis.

On any other day Permanent Rose would have awkwardly tried to say something helpful while looking like a deer caught in the headlights and thinking about the merits of going 'look, a bear!' and running away while the person's back was turned. Common sense and some memory of good manners had prevented her from actually doing that for much of her life and these days there might actually be occasion to yell 'look, a bear!' in all sincerity so she wasn't about to start doing it again now she had all her memories back. However, on this day Permanent Rose had found herself turned into a dog and had used the excuse of it to steal the shoes of a woman she didn't like in a prank that was unfortunate in a dog but probably an arrestable offence in a human and was trying to ignore the fact that she had no idea when, or if, she was going to get turned back. As such, she responded to the tone rather than the words and shoved her pointed head right into the stranger's hand.

"Tell me about it," she said in a very dissatisfied tone which, as a dog, came out as a put-upon sounding huff.

The dog seemed friendly enough, James had never had a real pet before. Sure there were the hunting dogs at King George's palace, but they weren't real proper pets. James wasn't even sure if he'd care to have proper pets, but how would one really know if they'd never had one before. He tried to be friendly with the hunting dogs once, when he was much much younger, but King George had found and and reprimanded him. Said the dogs were for work, for a purpose, and that purpose was not to snuggle them or give them treats or have them do tricks. They served a single purpose and that was that in George's eyes.

James sort of petted the dog's head a bit. "Well, you're friendly that's for sure. Don't see any collar on you though. That dog of Hopper's has a collar on. I can't imagine you're a stray though, town's a bit small for that, did you come through a portal I wonder........"

James had no idea what the hell to do next, it wasn't as if he could speak dog, and he was still freaked out about being in a woman's body. He looked around and kept talking to himself, well sort of like he was talking to the dog, but he had no idea that the dog was actually a person that could properly understand everything he was saying.

"You haven't seen anyone around that understands magic have you? Funny story, I'm not supposed to look like this, and I sure as hell am not supposed to have boobs, I'm really a man you see, despite present outward appearances any how....."
