Moonlighting as a tour guide

Newt didn't want to let Tina in on how much danger they were in at the moment but he could guess that she sussed it. After all, it didn't take an expert to see that this wasn't on the same level as a flobberworm - it was like a dragon, it was a given! His heart always pounded in his chest when Sudaratā was in a mood. That adrenaline pumping through his system, in the back of his mind knowing that a mistake could be fatal, it was almost an addictive feeling - almost. At least the nundu's good days certainly outweighed the bad anymore. Another year and just maybe, she'd forget the past enough to not terrorize select parts of the case.

He knew he owed Tina an explanation and she'd get one when he felt that they were safe. However, she dug in her heels sooner than he expected - pulled off balance, he stumbled and found himself facing her. Newt had seen that expression on her face once before. In fact, it was a near match for the first time they met and she arrested him, however briefly, over the actions of Niffler and his own failure to wipe Jacob's mind. Somehow she looked more angry now though. He couldn't hold her direct eye contact long. Perhaps it was the shame of it or something else but he returned it only in small doses, the rest of the time it was everywhere else. Not that he couldn't feel those usually pleasantly warm eyes now burning into him.

"That was a nundu - page seventy-eight if you're interested." Although now seemed like the wrong time to be looking it up in a book or at least the sketches on page seventy-nine and eighty were a bit moot considering she had seen the real thing. Matched against Tina's obvious anger, Newt did his best to remain calm. "I've never known her to eat people." That didn't mean she wouldn't but Tina didn't need to know that. Some information was just better left out of it. "She's not keen on strangers." In fact, even when Jacob had been in his case to help with the feeding all those months ago Newt had managed to keep him distanced from the large cat without his knowledge.

It didn't seem like something easily justified but he could try. "Sudaratā was in a traveling fair in India. Wizards hurt her. She's different, she doesn't have her biggest defense." Or threat for those who were worried about the disease such creatures were known to carry. "You should have seen the people lined up to get a look at her. The world's most dangerous cat locked away and prodded for money." Newt's words came out more and more bitter as he spoke, the memories of that vivid as ever. "So I took her from them. I had every intention of returning her to the wild once she was healthy and it didn't work - I don't know if she's forgotten how to be wild or never was but she wouldn't have survived on her own." Although he still didn't know who in their right mind would ever breed nundus for a hobby or sport they were dangerous.

That information didn't stop Tina from at least lecturing him a bit more. He deserved some of it, without a doubt. After all, he had always said that nothing in the case was dangerous when in reality he still couldn't believe that the MACUSA investigators who went into his case had even come out alive. Maybe that did make him a little crazy, keeping a creature just that dangerous within the confines of such a small space but he wouldn't let any harm become of her. She deserved more from the wizarding world than she got. At least, Frank, he could return to where he belonged but Sudaratā was stuck with either him or death. Not very fair.

"I know what she's capable of, Tina." His voice was even and serious, without another word he undid the buttons of his right shirt sleeve, rolling the fabric up to reveal high on his forearm and upper arm where five claws at one time had made contact, their size and spacing could only have come from a paw as large as hers. That time, he had been very lucky. "That was from when I first got her. I had to keep her caged." Even if it was a nice, much larger cage than the one he had stolen her from but he had little choice as she was rather keen on trying to maul him in those days. "She reached through the bars one day and did that. I've made progress. Once she realises you aren't here to hurt her, she'll stop threatening you." That was the theory anyway although he didn't see Sudaratā holding hatred for Tina for long. "Just no wands around her - unless you have to defend yourself." He hated to have to say that but if somehow something happened where he wasn't there to keep an eye on things... "They used to use spells on her. So for safety's sake, don't do it."

Perhaps, he had been a little firmer than he intended, more serious but he loved his creatures. Even ones, by rights, had the ability to kill him ten times over before he could do a thing about it. He'd let no one hurt them. No one. Content that he had explained everything, Newt rolled his sleeve back down, buttoned it and had Tina's hand in his without even realising that he was leading her again. Having walked a few paces, he stopped and turned, looked directly at her and said "Tina, if she does come after you -" His voice faltered, Merlin he hoped that'd never happen! "Curse to kill." Those words tasted horrible in his mouth but they had to be said even if he hated voicing them.

Newt started walking again, putting more distance between them and Sudaratā's bad mood. At least Dougal was one creature that he didn't worry about unless he had escaped and started feeding the Occamy candy again. It was only when he had stopped where Dougal and the Occamy resided that it dawned on him that he was still holding Tina's hand and had been doing so for a while. He released hers, looking over the Occamy, while they were no larger in appearance than the last time she'd seen them, they were older and growing up nicely. "Come on Dougal, we've got a visitor." Even if he was just trying to placate Tina with a friendly face, he was going for it anyway.

I could take you in for this! ( Again )
She wasn't even going to comment on how many times he had already told her about taking animals from bad places or bad people. It was like a backwards Robin Hood story or something similar. She understood though, and really while it was all things that were quite illegal, what they were doing to the creatures was far worse than a man taking them and giving them shelter and sense of safety they had likely never had before. It also made it hard to really argue, which was something that the at times feistier Tina tried to do. She could easily fly off a handle, easily put up a fight about something she didn't feel was right. ( And more often than not had good reason to. ) but then there were these times when even in all of her training as an Auror, her heart had been working against her more.

To hear about the way the Nundu was treated was unfair to say the least. The idea that people could even be so cruel to beautiful creatures like that was a shame. It was everywhere, she'd seen people mistreat dogs, cats, and even in the wizarding world making these same types of creatures that only wanted to be left alone into side shows or using them for their own sick stunts. To Porpentina, it was almost or even equally as disgusting as those who hurt children.

A deep breath had left her lips when the more serious tone that Newt had had definitely reached her. Even for him to really get serious was a pretty big deal, not that he was some type of jokester or anything similar, but Porpentina had been convinced that he likely never actually let anything she said land fully on his ears. But then this was different too. Even when he had shown her all of the scars on his arm it only fueled that same response she had moments earlier. This wasn't so much about him breaking the law, it was more about the idea that one failed move and he could be dead and gone. There really was no amount of pride or magic that could bring him back either.

A frown had lingered on her lips when he had mentioned the possibility that she may have had to end the Nundu one day with a killing curse if it tried to harm her. As much as she'd liked to avoid that, that really wasn't an option she even wanted to consider. It was easy enough to understand ' no wand ' that much she understood. If anything it could've just triggered the Nundu and forced her own hand. Yet another result that would end up in a circumstance that Tina really wouldn't ever want to find herself in.

She really had little to say, if only because there was so much worth saying but it was finding all of those intended words that hadn't made her sound like a crazy person. She knew he loved all of those living within that case, and a big part of what he had said, knowing he'd even had to say it broke her own heart.

" Hey. " It wasn't exactly a word that Tina said too often, though like him that ever awkward Auror hadn't realized he still had her hand until he went to release it. And even then, she couldn't bring herself to allow that as grip only tightened a little more to get his attention in a non-hurting like way.

Her free hand had reached up where open palm gently caressed his cheek while dark eyes had watered a little. " I'm not going to kill her. " Maybe stay a way from it, maybe cast sleep spell. That may have been the worst option there, putting it to bed early. Other than that, she had to reassure him that there was no reason to ever worry about that sort of fate happening to his beloved Nundu. " You just be careful around it too, okay? " If need be maybe they could feed Grindelwald to it or something. One could hope.

She hadn't really felt a need to move though, instead dark eyes had kept to his own while fingertips gently massaged along his flesh. It was nice, at least in a she hadn't realized yet what she was doing way.

Moonlighting as a tour guide

The bitter taste of the words he had spoken remained in his mouth; almost like a slow poison. It had hurt to say them, more than he wanted to admit. That tight feeling in his chest wasn't imaginary. The last thing he ever wanted to say was the means to actually kill one of the creatures he had rescued and continued to protect. However, there were certain realities, facts that he wasn't going to fool himself by denying. He practically wrote the book on them; in fact in terms of mass market circulation, he did. He knew every story wizarding elders had told him in remote African villages, he had studied Sudaratā's wild counterparts and had spoken to a few survivors of Nundu attacks. They were not creatures to be tested. They had the ability to wipe out whole villages and had she not been different from those of her kind, Sudaratā, would have never been able to stay with him despite not knowing how to survive.

She was a lopsided creation, holding both inborn knowledge and the hell which evil wizards had inflicted upon her. His kindness had brought forth a new cat in her, a slow development but it was there. However, knowing what he did, he couldn't allow the love he had for the cat he had cared for over the last year and a half to be clouded by emotional thinking. Tina needed to know the truth, the danger that one of those cats could become if provoked. More than that, he'd never risk Tina's life under some misguided notion that Sudaratā was perfectly safe. It was true that she was better than she used to be but it was also true that had she caught his neck instead of his arm, he wouldn't still be breathing.

Knowing all of that, it was no wonder that he felt the way he did. Tina's silence had not entirely gone unnoticed. While he had talked, justified and in some regards, defended the cat which had her so angry, she had not said a word. Whether that was by design or other means, he did expect a proper lecture. One that stated his lack of sanity, how he kept one of the arguably most dangerous creatures on the planet in a suitcase, how there was a million ways that it could go wrong at any second, and that he had some nerve keeping that creature around and banishing a killing curse was the way to go if things did go wrong. And yet, none of those things were said. Even as he tried to deflect attention to Dougal, Tina said nothing of the sort.

Her reluctance to release his hand brought forth a flicker of confusion as he turned his attention back to her. The lecture he had expected was nothing of the sort as the sharp, angry tones he expected were little more than a nearly soothing one; reinforced by her warm touch upon his cheek. Tina's reassurances were met with no resistance, logic had somehow slipped away when the air nearly crackled with electricity and the closeness of the two of them. Newt couldn't seem to bring himself to look away from her gaze; the soft and warm one he had nearly grown accustom to. All thoughts gone, logic having taken leave, he found himself lost in the moment. Time felt as if it had stopped or slowed to a crawl.

Still unable to tear himself away from her beautiful eyes, Newt brushed aside those few strands of her hair that never wanted to stay in place (honestly he wanted to cut them off if they weren't going to behave!) and leaned forward as if intending to kiss her until... something grabbed hold of his leg. That was enough to drop him roughly back into reality's waiting arms. Newt blinked and flushed a deep red realising what it was he had been considering. Freeing himself from her grasp and likewise the same for her, Newt looked down to see Dougal hanging onto his leg similar in the same manner that monkeys often did. Great timing.

With what he had been thinking slowly sinking in, Newt didn't know what to say. Was it something he should apologize for? Should he even have thought those things? How did he even get there? Not a single one of those things were ones he could answer. Honestly he couldn't even look at her now. With embarrassment plain as day on his face, he bent down to pick up the ill timed Demiguise. Any other time the little bugger wouldn't even come when called... "You remember Dougal." When in doubt misdirection. Although, even with trying to distract her with the rude Demiguise, one thing was for certain, he hadn't imagined those feelings but just how had they happened and what did they mean?

Your timing is impeccable, Dougal!
Did he really just think she was mean? She felt like she had some right in being angry, even if the anger was more or less out of concern that he'd already been hurt by the Nundu before, and that she really didn't want to end what was a nice day so far by being eaten by a giant angry cheetah like cat. Still, all he had said, while some may have taken as talk of the deranged, had actually sparked her sympathy some. She knew it wasn't easy to be that Nundu who had been abused, just like it was difficult to find blame in Credence for all that he had been doing.

But then for Newt to jump to such an extreme, that was really what made her feel sorry for her reaction. It may very well have had to come to that one day, but she wouldn't have wanted to even consider such a notion unless it were truly called for and when she had a lot of other magic that came before it, she really hoped it could stay as that.

The touch between them wasn't exactly something she was accustomed to. She was by far greater in the game of his looking away from her when she looked at him and vice versa. Or she'd occasionally jumble over her words, say things wrong or say things that she meant only to try and cover them up with less meaningful things. She knew she cared, but there was little more she could really do. He had far more greater things in life than her, and after this Storybrooke incident passed he was probably going right back to the UK again where they could return to just sending letters back and forth.

Then there was that glimmer of hope though, all while she had enjoyed that closeness the two were sharing she saw him leaning closer. It may have been nerves, or instinct, but whatever the case she hadn't hesitated in actually doing the same. The two were nearly the same height, which made things so much easier for the tall female as eyes had closed only to find herself stopping midway when nothing at all had happened.

Instead what followed had been the quick separation with him pulling his head away from her hand and their hand in hand embrace breaking quickly there after. What happened? Tina swallowed hard wondering if it were all on her, if she jumped into something that she knew she wasn't going to actually have. Or if it were all on him or.. Dougal?!

The sometimes invisible-sometimes not Demiguise had shown up leaving the equally red faced Tina to wonder if that had been who actually put the breaks on what may have been. " Oh yes. Hi Dougal. " Excuse her lack of interest, given that she was still a bit flushed and getting over what was either her mistake or a very rude Demiguise at play.

" Still helping with the Occamys? " Porpentina said with a slight clearing of her throat when she attempted to hold her hand out for it. Dougal seemed to like Jacob more, but every so often it seemed to like to hold the hand of another. Tina figured she could do that, if it were willing at least.

As always, her gaze did tend to find Newt again. At least trying to peek a bit to see if he were upset or really any sort of emotion on him from what happened. Maybe it was just a little assurance that she hadn't been the one in the wrong. But again, damned if she knew. The whole idea of even finding herself completely caught up with someone else had been a bit frightening. It was even more scary that she feel like she was so close, and yet so far away all at once!

Some wingman you are, Dougal.

The moment had passed. Newt just stood there holding the poorly timed demiguise, stunned. Those feelings he had felt, where his mind had slipped to - it all left him with a loss for words. Well, aside from directing the attention to their little moment thief. None of it was anything he could make sense of, not as far as he cared to think anyway. One trip down that particular rabbit hole had seemed like enough for one lifetime. He wasn't sure when it happened or how but it was better left unstudied. From the glance he dared take in Tina's direction, he had no doubt embarrassed her as well. If anything, Dougal may have saved them from destroying the friendship that they had. Being trapped in a world and time that was not his own, brought forth a certain reluctance to ruin the friendships he had.

So for the time being, Newt chose to focus on something that actually made sense. Dougal. Shoving those thoughts out of his mind, for the time being (and thankfully it seemed Tina was keen to do the same), he turned the spotlight onto Dougal. The creature seemed content and completely unaware of what he ruined. However, with his ability to see snippets into the future, it was just possible he knew more than either one of them. Although that was not entirely a comforting thought. Newt could, however, be grateful for the fact that Dougal had chosen to be visible at that time. Having something invisible grab you was a thrill better left alone. It was always startling!

"He's always a help with the Occamys." Newt replied, pleased to be back on a topic which suited him. "Although someone," He glanced over at the Occamys nest area, which he needed to move them out of but thankfully with their ability to shrink, they weren't exactly crowded. "is addicted to peppermint now." The escapee Occamy had gotten quite spoiled in that short few days they were out of his care. "Do they still sell peppermint candies in the future?" This question he directed at Tina. He hadn't gone anywhere to buy food to know. Sure peppermint candy was rather popular but that didn't entirely mean it was still a thing now. So many other things had changed.

Hopefully they did, after all Dougal had apparently continued the time honoured tradition of sugaring up a child and then returning them to their parent. Even if this was much more of an inter-species thing. For the most part, though, he wasn't quite sure what he would have done without the demiguise's help, for whatever reason he had a natural ability to tend to such creatures which would have taken him as a meal any other time. Maybe he wasn't the only one willing to take a risk for another creature. Newt petted him (certainly increasing Dougal's ego even more, the attention hog), although he froze when a single, long white hair came loose.

"Ah ha!" He took the hair between his thumb and forefinger. "Would you mind terribly holding him a moment?" Newt didn't exactly wait for an answer, passing the creature off to Tina and heading into the shed with a "I'll be right back." spoken over his shoulder - something of an afterthought. Of course, he did return carrying, of all things, a small tin (a former tea tin actually) and a hairbrush. "If you just keep hold of him, this'll be done in a jiffy." With that, Newt started brushing Dougal's long fur, pausing only to collect a loose hair which he deposited into the tin. Dougal, obviously used to this kind of attention, barely moved.

After collecting no fewer than fourteen hairs, which Newt remarked made it a "Good shedding day.", he retraced his steps and came back empty handed. Although, now that he stood there again, he perhaps owed Tina yet another explanation. He was pretty good at that apparently! "I've been collecting his hair. Demiguise pelts are used in invisibility cloaks." And there wasn't a single part of him that was willing to either kill Dougal or shave the poor creature bald for such an item. "Right now, I have an invisibility lap blanket." It was certainly a slow going process but that was one thing he had patience for.

Newt smiled slightly at Tina, the former embarrassment replaced by the humorous image of someone actually stopping at a lap blanket. He had to admit, it was nice to be able to share his world with someone. He very nearly opened his mouth to say something when a loud bellow sounded. "Have you seen the graphorns?" Was what he asked instead. It was valid. He couldn't quite remember if they had made themselves visible during that adventure in the case. Although it was just so possible that fear that Queenie wasn't going to be able to sneak them out of MACUSA headquarters managed to override a lot. At the time, he had been more annoyed that someone had gone through his personal papers, right next to being surprised that the resident nundu hadn't eaten anyone.

Either way, the graphorns were a sight worth seeing. "They're close by." Of all the creatures they had the most room in the case but considering their size it was downright impossible to manage anything less so them being near at hand didn't always happen and they did tend to get grumpy if he called them and didn't have food. Newt directed Tina in getting Dougal back into his usual place (after all, she was more than capable of handing the demiguise) and he led her the mere few yards to where the graphorns played. He paused, briefly to look at where Frank used to reside, for some reason or another he had yet to sum up the courage to dismantle what he created for the Thunderbird. It was a bittersweet ending, as happy as he was that Frank was back where he belonged, he missed having him around.

"Oh, look!" Newt said excitedly as they approached. Climbing up the small rock platform, to get a higher vantage-point, of which he helped Tina up out of sheer habit despite the protests she had voiced earlier, and pointed out across the plains, "They're playing!" The two graphorn calves were indeed doing just that, tussling, calling to each other (no doubt claiming that each was going to beat the other if siblings were anything to go by). He couldn't help but smile as he watched. Sure he could go on about the various facts he knew but for the moment, he was just content to stand there and take in the sight.

Pass the Dougal!
It was best that she get back to actually enjoying herself with everything she had been seeing. While she was quite terrified of what would have become of the failed attempt, the way he bounced right back to talking about the creatures within the case was a somewhat comforting sign to her. After all, just forgetting about it was better than dwelling and hating it, right? Maybe? A smirk ran across her lips briefly with those very thoughts. There she was, a pretty intelligent witch who couldn't make heads or tails out of something that should have been simple. Nope.

Dougal's need to feed the Occamy candy was admittedly cute. It made him sort of an unofficial yet official helper, even when he may have not been exactly right off with spoiling the serpent like beasts with candy! His question about selling peppermint in the future had made her consider for a moment before shoulders gave a gentle shrug. " I don't see why they wouldn't? " Although now that he mentioned it, she may have to go out into the town and take a look.

Speaking so much of the occamy's, Tina was ready to go and visit with them. Of all the creatures, she actually had held some of them the first time she visited. Although, just when she turned her head she looked back in time to see Newt handing Dougal over to her. The next thing she knew, she was holding the Demiguise and Newt had gone for his shed where Porpentina sighed to herself. " Don't look at me like that. " Tina whispered at Dougal. Although the monkey like creature seemed pretty oblivious to what it had done. Either that or he just hadn't cared. He seemed to enjoy the attention plenty when he was passed from Newt to her!

Once Newt returned, Tina nodded and hands held Dougal a bit longer with more of a relaxed hold. She wasn't out to hurt him, and it seemed he really was happy just being held anyway. Which was fine for her, she'd much prefer that over him getting antsy and struggling to break free! But, oh! Invisibility cloaks! She knew full well what they were, she wanted one as a little girl. Her parents really couldn't afford it though, or so that was what they said. Tina was convinced that it may have been more or less that they didn't need two little girls randomly going invisible throughout the Goldstein home.

" You're able to make them? " What could he not do? Of course he could. The smile that Tina had been wearing came back as she stood still so that Dougal could be brushed but that she could also continue her talking with Newt. " All great cloaks have to start somewhere. " She could have teased him, but thought better of it. If anything she was a bit more amused with just picturing him slowly building on this one day invisibility cloak that had probably started off as an invisibility dish towel and moved up from there. What was nice though, had been the slight return of that awkward smile of his. So what if she liked it a little.

Did he mention graphorns? " I thought they were wiped out? " Or on the verge of it, she knew somethings here and there about creatures in the wizarding world, her Grandfather dabbled in it a little bit but not even a tinsy bit close to what Newt did, though the old man was content with what he knew since it was a step out from his typical owl breeding hobby. Which was why she really could stand to learn more! Dougal had to go back though, and so Tina walked to where the silver haired creature mostly stayed and gently set him down as fingers carefully took his long thin arms into her hands to pull them off from her. " You be good, Dougal. " She could forgive him, it was hard not to. A smile still lingering on her lips, she left the Demiguise be and took the short walk back to where Newt had gone.

It wasn't hard to miss his brief stop at the set up that had once held Frank. Tina moved up alongside him with a hand gently touching his back for a second. All that madness and everything that followed with the Credence and Graves, it was too bad he hadn't really had a chance to get that proper send off that he wanted Frank to get. After all, Arizona was quite a ways from New York. " Frank must be happy in Arizona. " Words had been soft, and while she doubted he needed the reassurance she gave it anyway. " He was amazing, I never saw a real Thunderbird before. " Ha! The irony, a Thunderbird herself proudly sorted at Ilvermorny and all!

It really didn't last long, which had been fine. Porpentina followed Newt to the rock platform where just for the sake of not arguing she let him get away with helping her again. She still found it unlikely that he really had graphorns though, but then when she heard something coming it was one of those moments when Tina was completely in shock. All those years her Grandfather told her that they were likely going to be gone by the time she'd grown.

And yet there were calves, only babies! True, she could bring up how they were dangerous. Although, she really didn't feel a need to bring that up, not when the two calves were far more entertained by wrestling with one another as she looked on smiling.

Sure. They weren't exactly the prettiest of creatures. A Unicorn by far was a lot more gorgeous to see (f she ever saw one!). But to still see something that she was led to believe had been wiped out of the wizarding world before she could ever see one? That was unbelievable.

And just like that back to moonlighting.

"I've only worked on this one." Newt replied. "It's more of a hobby." After all many people liked to spin fiber into yarn and make something with it. In his case, what he was creating just happened to turn invisible. "When I started, I was just curious as to the tensile strength and difficulty of making the weave. Since then I've just kept adding on." Whether he was actually going to sell the cloak, if and when he managed to get it finished was something he wasn't sure about. Instead it was more of the fun in seeing something take shape even if it was one of those things he made sure he could always find because the fabric, at times, like to disappear without warning. Dougal was tolerant of the attention but for the most part that was the creature's entire behaviour unless someone was trying to harm him or had him upside down, shaking him like Niffler had done so many times before.

He couldn't help but smile when he brought up the graphorns and Tina's remark that they were wiped out. "We'll just have to see, won't we?" The words came out a little more playfully than he had intended but after getting stalked by a nundu and the near kiss in the space of ten minutes, it seemed like a little humour was in order. Although, hopefully Tina didn't expect a proper set of jokes, otherwise he'd just be forced to double back for a joke book he had ironically been given as a gag gift. Why he kept the thing, he really wasn't sure. Not when he was nearly positive that had been his brother's idea of a jab at his lack of a proper sense of humour, whatever the hell that was. That was family for you.

Newt nodded if but a somber one, when it came to Frank. He agreed with Tina wholeheartedly even though that single Thunderbird had been the start of some grand adventures, even if more than a few of those had been on the wrong side of the law. "They're a sight to see." To that he agreed as well. While he hadn't intended to release Frank when and where he did, without him, Grindelwald would have gotten what he wanted and there was still that thrill in watching him take to a limitless sky. At least everyone else was still with him, even if he had planned on returning to Africa (on no doubt whatever meager book royalties he received if the it sold at all) to find a herd for his resident Erumpent, like Frank, she really didn't need him anymore.

Forgetting painful goodbyes, he instead focused on the one species that he, for the moment, was in soul charge in keeping alive. While they weren't unicorns (and really he'd find one for her!), at least they were a sort of treat for Tina. Seeing something thought to be gone from the earth was a powerful sight, or so he guessed that's the way everyone felt. He had anyway. Of course, they weren't beautiful by the standards of most witches and wizards (honestly he'd bet that even muggles would label them ugly after they stopped screaming, anyway) but to him they were among his great achievements. The case held a few of those.

Not waiting to ruin the moment, Newt took a time to watch the calves at play. It was something he never grew tired of. Contented in all of it, he finally spoke, quietly perhaps not to entirely detract from the sight. "They were extinct according to the Ministry. I found them, trapped by a rock slide in Romania when I was studying Longhorns." He paused, "I'm nearly certain I have the last breeding pair in existence." And now their offspring. "I meant to go back and see if there were others but we're here instead." Indeed, that portal had given him a real list of things he had intended to do before it swallowed him up. As much as it pleased him to have the Graphorns safe with him, additions to the breeding stock would have been more welcome. The gene pool was going to get shallow if he wasn't careful. Thankfully their slow maturity gave him nearly another year before he had to be concerned and they'd find a way out way before then, at least that's what he was going to keep telling himself.

"Here comes the bull and cow." Or Gerald and Geena, respectively. He pointed out to the large, lumbering shapes which kicked up small traces of visible dust with each step. He highly doubted they would have let the calves get too far away even with the case being predator free. Newt looked over at Tina, "Would whoever told you they were gone loved to have seen this?" He asked almost timidly. As much as he didn't want pry, he couldn't help but wonder. It seemed like something skipped in a Care of Magical Creatures class (at least they hadn't been in his) and so it left him to guess that it was a family related matter, or at least a professor who had cared enough to share the information they had, how ever inaccurate it turned out to be.

Such a wonderful tour guide.
When he teased her about waiting and seeing them, it turned out that it was no joke. The two younger calves had been playing and she found herself drawn to them. Although, she also kept a pretty good distance back. In fact, that distance was a good foot away from Newt. After all, wherever he was standing it was a good guess that it was a safe spot to be. ( Or so she really hoped. )

Even while she watched the two, it was still something she had a difficult time in believing. Her Grandfather was by no means a pro to the knowledge of the wide variety of creatures in the wizarding world, but he did have a decent enough knowledge to go along with what he knew of the no-maj animals that the magical folk in America were somewhat forced to co-exist with due to having to appear as regular no-maj people too.

His explanation of how he had come across them had broken her out of that somewhat awe-struck stare she had given them as they played. " They're lucky you found them. " Always somewhere. The letters the two exchanged back and forth mostly covered just where he was every time, which was almost always somewhere different. And funny enough, almost always further and further from New York. Porpentina imagined though that she had been the only one who actually took notice of that. There was really no reason for him to have.

She hadn't seen the cow and bull yet, but rather the somewhat not so attractive offspring that while not the prettiest of creatures really had been a beauty at the same time. After all, she was looking at something thought to be wiped out, where even the Ministry had thought as such.

" Does the Ministry know you saved them? " She imagined the poor man must have had piles of paperwork to deal with, something she really couldn't picture Newt dealing with, much less having a desk and being forced to stay behind it. Though she was one to talk, the only sort of activity her desk ever had were the rat memos that ran around on top of it. Thank the stars that she no longer had to answer as a Wand Permit Officer.

" I wouldn't mind helping. " Well. Tina had put that thought in her mind and lo and behold a hopeful thought had become a more audible opinion. " If I could. " And the save. As she couldn't really expect that Newt would have wanted to bring her on some trip to Romania one day. As it were, they had no actual knowledge of when they could have left Storybrooke or if she even had a job as an Auror to go back to or if the MACUSA would already have replaced her. Heck, she liked to think that maybe they were out looking for her, but she thought better on that. They had a lot of problems as it were, and Tina disappearing may have not been one of the top problems with their constant need to mask magic from the no-maj community.

Porpentina let a sigh slip through her lips although a smile lingered when she had occasionally glanced to Newt and back to the calves. Just as he mentioned the bull and cow, she had already caught sight of the much bigger looming figures further away from the calves. Though, big was an understatement and one that made Tina quite happy that she was a respectful distance from them. " Wow " Really, of all the words, that was the best that slipped out as she looked to them. They weren't attacking, if anything they seemed perfectly content where they were, and she was more than pleased to see that.

His question for as timid as it sounded was easy to answer. She really wasn't ashamed in sharing that very little bit of knowledge she had heard of them. Even if it were incorrect. Her Papa would've at least been proud to hear that, after all sometimes it wasn't a bad thing to be wrong. " My Papa told me that, he knew a little bit about some of the creatures in the wizard world.. not like you. Not even close to what you know. He mostly bred owls, but he always said he had wanted to do more but because we were in New York he had to be limited. "

She always considered a pet owl, it was funny that she never actually ended up with one. She'd had the perfect opportunity, but with growing up with just her and Queenie by her fourth year at Ilvermorny there really was just no time for that. " He would have loved you if he could have ever met you. " Tina laughed as she said it, but it was so true. Then again, she really couldn't think of any reason why someone would have disliked him save for maybe some of their enemies, but they didn't count.

Some rules have a little bend in them. Wouldn't you agree?

Newt wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to tell her the truth of the matter but was there really anything to be gained by lying? Considering they weren't in a place with wizarding laws and some part of him felt that they had moved on from that first meeting. She was far less likely to arrest him now, at any rate. "Not exactly." Newt admitted. "I didn't get the proper permits to take them so the Ministry would be none too pleased if I told them." He paused, "Good way to get fired." Whether Tina wanted to feel that he had done something actually wrong, it was up to her. There wasn't a single part of him that would have acted any differently and considering he didn't have the paperwork on anything in the case (well, except the fwoopers) it was all a sure fire way to get in a lot of hot water. Thankfully all those charges he racked up in New York were null and void. Which really only seemed fair after he caught Grindelwald.

He turned to look at her, that certain level of eye contact in the works. "Really?" Newt was unable to keep a certain level of surprise out of his voice. No one had ever offered something like that before. Honestly no one had ever been interested. The slightest smile formed with his reply of "I'd like that. It's beautiful country." What a combination that would be lovely scenery and a pretty... that thought was better left unfinished. After all, he didn't want to accidentally say that out loud and really, why he felt the need to notice was beyond him. They had such a lovely thing going, why would he want to risk ruining that? A fool, head to toe, no doubt.

At least his question hadn't offended her. Sometimes things were better less unexplored. It was however, nice to know that her family wasn't a terrible topic to select. He couldn't help but be a little curious. They seemed like the sort of people that were night and day when compared to what he was used to dealing with. "Nothing wrong with owls, though." Even if they looked far more mundane compared to other magical creatures. "At least, you didn't have to explain those. I wasn't allowed to have muggle friends over because of the hippogriffs." Not that he had that many friends when he was that age either but he never did get the fun in birthday parties or sleepovers or anything like that. "Did you go to a muggle school in New York?" Not everyone did. With the anti-muggle laws in America it was a rather slim idea.

Newt couldn't help but smile, managing another "Really?" In such a short span of conversation as Tina continued about her family. It was just so unlikely that he could have said much more than that. "It sounds like I would have liked to have met him too." He hated to push at things. Not with them being, what he could only guess, sad memories. Although he wasn't quite sure how upset he'd be if his own mother died but then again, they didn't have that close relationship. He wasn't the favourite. "Mother has yet to agree with my career choice. Theseus is an auror like you." What his mother had against his vocation he really wasn't sure. Yes, there was the whole mess when he was in school but was that really enough to hold it against him forever? And honestly he was pretty high up in the damn department!

Not wishing to actually tear her away from the graphorns, commented a "I haven't bored you with all this, have I?" After all, aside from Jacob's amazement, no one else seemed all that interested. How she even could be, he wasn't sure. A rare find if she was genuine. Almost like a unicorn although graphorns were rarer, most people didn't want to be compared to them though.

Such a wonderful tour guide.
He seemed a bit keen on bending the laws, even risking his job for it! Given it was exactly how the two met, his law breaking and her determination to bring in any wrong-doers in the wizarding community. Although this time there really was no MACUSA laws that seemed to apply in Storybrooke, and if Tina would have even actually brought him in, well. That was up for some debate after how badly her doing ' her job ' had gone the last time and how maybe some of the things that she had thought he had done, were a bit easier to forgive. After all, they did catch all the creatures in his case, stopped Grindelwald, and even helped obliviate the minds of every no-maj in New York. So yeah, he could get a pass again, it had nothing to do with the fact that Porpentina may have just liked him some either!

" Newton " Who was she kidding? Even if she argued about him doing it he already had, and there was really a good chance he'd just do it again. Instead, brown eyes had given him a glance and a smirk that tugged at her lips instead. She really couldn't afford to get caught doing that, while he had been known for great things, Tina was just an Auror trying to make ends meet while she was living with her sister. Much like when she helped Credence, she had all the right intentions to do good. Long story short, all those good intentions but yet nothing but bad repercussions followed. " I don't know what you're talking about, I haven't seen a thing. " She finally said, in other words. At least that Auror was going to break the rules and look the other way. Heck, her Grandfather would have wanted it that way too.

What shocked her more than his apparent love of breaking some rules had been that he seemed.. really excited for her to really want to travel with him somewhere. " Yes. Really. " A part of Tina was expecting him to realize what she was saying and quickly back track the surprise he had. " There's a lot I haven't seen, at least to see something different one time. " Funny, she was a Thunderbird who pretty much had it's wings clipped. She couldn't travel the world, she was caught in a New York Brownstone where she was destined to be alone forever. ( Save for Queenie, thank God for Queenie. ). The only savior to it all was her position as an Auror that was reinstated. That was the single most sense of adventure she could have, and while she did, most were mundane when they weren't exposing dark wizards posing as MACUSA members, or being chased by every single Auror you've known the name and families of since you could remember. " You'd like that? Really? " Oh well, that was nice. Though he could have been being polite.. damn his British politeness.

" I wish we could have had more. I really didn't have a lot of friends so that didn't much apply. " She had Queenie, her best friend then and likely forever. That was enough. She had some friends in school, though that hadn't been until she was eleven and on her way to Ilvermorny. It was too bad, the MACUSA laws really didn't help much in children wanting to see their wizarding world. If anything, going to purchase her wand and her books had all been the real first experiences she had in it, as well as Ilvermorny where she could somewhat escape the muggle world, if only a little.

" Not once. My Grandparent's would tell our neighbors that we were home schooled until they could get us into another school out of state. " Not...exactly a lie. Her Grandparents weren't the type to enjoy fibbing, but then to keep themselves safe, they just preferred to bend the law a little. Apparently, that was a little something Porpentina had going on all around her! It made her laugh though as attention kept to him for a few seconds before looking away. All that time, her Grandparents basically put it out there, but neighbors only took it as the young girls being sent to some more 'fancier' school elsewhere. Which, it really was.

" I mean it! I think everyone would have appreciated what you do. " Every so often the reminder that her parents were gone stung a little. She'd grown up, had to accept their deaths at a young age, but even so every now and then? It all really did just come back again. They never got to see her and Queenie become who she liked to think they would have been proud of. Or how they couldn't see the types of interesting people they had met, or how they were sorted into Ilvermorny. Her parents her grandparents. So much missed and all had gone well before they should have. It really wasn't fair, and she spent a good deal of her time at Ilvermorny upset about it. But it was what it was.

The otherwise frown she would have had was replaced instead by a fake smile, if only because she hadn't wanted him to feel like that trip down memory road felt like a dagger stabbing her in the heart a few times. A part of her liked to bring up those old memories, they were warm and inviting. While the other part of her had just felt like she was being reminded again about her parents being taken away by Dragon Pox and her Grandparents having to shift their lives around to pick up where her parents left off.

To hear his Mother didn't approve of his career choice though, that wasn't very fair. He had said before the woman raised Hippogriffs? Newt was doing far more than that. She should have been proud of him. " Do you enjoy what you do? That's what matters more, if you're happy doing what you're doing than don't let other people try and discourage you. " That at least brought forth an actual smile. But ooh, an Auror!? " I can't picture you having a brother as an Auror. That job sounds significantly more boring compared to what you do. " Yes, that was a jab, even if it were a jab at herself. " You're both good men, even if I don't know him, I'm sure he is too. She should be proud of both of you equally. " Guess Momma Scamander wasn't as nice. Personally she liked Newt, but that was another story all together. She also knew him, she'd yet to meet Theseus and given how Newt had gotten the last time she mentioned him, she had a feeling she may not have been doing so in the near future.

" Bored me? " Impossible! " Of course not! " Given that she had seen Graphorns that were supposedly wiped out, Dougal, made some Bowtruckle friends, and almost got eaten by a Nundu? Who the hell was going to be bored? " Once I read the book I may be a pro like you now. " A gentle nudge followed that she gave him, although she doubted she'd be a 'pro' but it was certainly worth teasing him at least a little.

Still moonlighting as a tour guide.

Newt could guess that Tina wouldn't approve. It was only natural with her being an auror and everything. He had no doubt that Theseus would even turn him in if it came down to it. There were no misguided ideas of loyalty. Not anymore. He had learned that the hard way. And so at Tina's tone and that odd sound of hearing Newton (which was only ever used by his mother and one out of four grandparents), he could guess that he was in a little trouble. Perhaps lying might have been better although, he didn't really like to tell fibs if he didn't have to. Stretching the truth and telling the odd white lie was something else. Even if he had to lie quite a bit when they first met. After all, she had been angry enough about niffler and not obviating Jacob, telling her about the other creatures, would have been an unnecessary stress on something already fractious.

That didn't mean, now, that he didn't expect a lecture or something to that degree in the meantime. However, it seemed that Tina was either slowly being corrupted or it was a rule worthy of being broken. The simple idea of her saying that she saw nothing, brought a tug of a smile to his lips. "Thank you. I plan on putting them back if I can get a stable population. I won't keep them." Whether that made any moral difference was up for debate. In the eyes of the law, he was just as bad as the traffickers who had Frank all chained up. Even if that was ridiculous. It was all worth the risk. Knowing that Frank was safe, that Graphorns would live to fight another day (even if he had to check every single mountain range to find more of them), it was worth losing his job, it was worth everything. Something most people couldn't even begin to understand.

He nodded, "I'm very sure." Although he couldn't quite look at her as he spoke. Maybe it was his nerves getting the better of him. Of course, they had to get out of this place first before they could think about such an adventure. "I think you'd like it there. And maybe we'd see a Longhorn." Or maybe several or a nesting ground, really there were so many options! Alright, so he really liked dragons, big deal. It was all just a nice thought either way. Her comment about not having many friends didn't go unnoticed but he didn't or at least couldn't think of the right thing to reply. How more people didn't think her to be just lovely, he didn't really know though.

"Most wizarding families home school." Newt replied, "Mother expected well rounded children so we went to the local primary school. She wasn't one to tolerate prejudice." Ironic considering how strongly against most of his life choices she was. Although in that respect, giving them an early education into muggle life, had been something very useful. At the very least, it taught them both how to function in the muggle world and considering the sheer number of students who didn't know what a postage stamp was, apparently the little things like that did help. "She home schooled us in a wizarding education as well." Often meaning double the homework with his mother taking the idea of school quite literally. Somehow or another it left very little time for play but the hippogriffs were always a nice distraction.

"I enjoy it." If it wasn't for the paperwork sometimes. Although Tina was right, even if he never did let his mother's disapproval stop him. "She used to be more supportive until..." Newt trailed off, thinking about everything that was at the end of that sentence. It would just lead to too many questions and often it was something he didn't even like to think about let alone talk about. He chose instead to look out over the landscape and study the graphorns. His eyes flicked back to Tina at her remark about Theseus and his chosen profession. No doubt, she expected something a little less normal considering what he had selected as employment.

Newt smiled, catching the fact that she was using a touch of humour just to make him feel better. "I think it'd be safer." He managed the lightest of chuckles. With the number of times he had been bitten, clawed, pecked and stepped on, it was just so possible that chasing down bad guys was the better way to go. However, as much as he thought Tina to be a perfect fit for that job, where he was concerned, he'd rather be trapped in a cage with Sudaratā on one of her bad days. Office work was so boring. He just wanted to get out there and chase something down with a big net. Not that he really ever did that!

He still doubted that his mother thought of him as equal to Theseus but there was little point of pushing the issue. It wasn't like he had the chance to ask her and he wasn't about to. Not when the woman had the ability to turn into something of an angry badger. Like the twenty-seven howlers weren't enough to point that out. Nonetheless, he shrugged, pushing the conversation back to her again.

At least he wasn't boring her. "You might need to read it twice." Newt replied with a smile. He knew a joke when he heard one but still, if she was keen to learn... "I have more notes that didn't make the cut." As his publisher had told him that he needed to make a few small changes because certain passages were very heavy reading. "If you finish that and want more." Of course, it helped that he wrote the book, she could go directly to the source unlike other people. "And you could help with the mooncalves, if you want some hands on experience." The words had left his mouth, before he really had the chance to think about them, although, there was no harm in suggesting.

"Is there someone else you want to see?" Alright, maybe he was still a little worried about boring her to tears if they stood somewhere too long. "Or I went to that grocer and got some tea." Why he hadn't thought to look for peppermints then, he wasn't quite sure. Possibly because the place was so strange, the music made him want to cover his ears, and the cashier had given him a really weird look when he paid in very old American dimes. Niffer's escape in New York had been good for something. Even if he did have to trade the last of his wizarding money (namely by throwing it across the case so niffler would leave his den) for a handful and a half of coins. Most of which were usable, thankfully. "They still make Twinings." Even if the last cup he had did taste a bit different that what he was used to. That was the future for you, nothing ever stayed the same. you, nothing ever stayed the same.

Such a wonderful tour guide.
" I can't imagine anyone else who would take better care of them, it can be our little secret. " A part of her wouldn't have minded being there to see them set back into the wild. She imagined that the older Graphorns at least had been well used to it and could easily teach the calves to give them a future and hopefully that could make for a burst of population among them again. A grin stuck on her lips when she looked to him again. If anything she really just liked to make him think she was really going to be upset. Why? Who knew, she was so used to almost always having to be serious that sometimes it was a little fun to not be.

A dragon? The common reaction everyone had to a dragon was that they were dangerous. Tina was no different. If anything, she hoped that maybe they could skip that part of seeing a Romanian Longhorn. As it were, that dragon was a massive one and the last thing she needed was being turned into dragon food. And yet, a part of her still really had wanted to push on with the intended trip one day. Her smile widened a little and shoulders rolled in a light shrug. " I'm going to remember that then, if we ever get out of here than we're going on a trip together. " Because the MACUSA will love to hear that. Maybe she'll do that before she makes herself known in New York again. Yeah. That's it.

Porpentina had only heard little things here and there in regards to his Mother, most of which weren't often the greatest of details. It wasn't that she beat them, at least not that Newt had said it. But the way he did talk had put the woman in a light that made it sound like she had openly favored one son over the other. Unfortunately for Newt, that one seemed to be him. As she learned the last time in the forest, it really wasn't a good thing to pry. She hadn't had the mind reading abilities like Queenie did, so she could only go on with encouraging him to have said more and that was not something that was easy to do.

" It doesn't sound like you had much time to have fun and enjoy yourself. " She was one to talk. Her fun did come from running around the house and playing with Queenie. For a short time, her parents even would join in with the children. Then her Grandparents tried, but they were already too frail to really do much. If anything Newt should have been the luckier one, when in truth it really hadn't seemed that way. He had a parent still, but not the one he may have really needed.

When he trailed off in speaking of his Mother again, Tina bit her lower lip gently. She really hadn't been sure how exactly to handle it, other than not trying to get him to say whatever had happened or really anything to that like. Instead, feeling a bit braver or really just acting on nerves alone, who knew! Tina instead gave him a light smile at the corner of her lip when hand nearest to his had let fingers entwine with his.

" I'm not sure about that. I dealt with a witch in Central Park that had forgotten half the spells she had been casting all her life, she just stood there shouting one thing after another. " Had to evacuate the park, had to disarm her wand, had to take care of any No-Maj's all in between. It was a mess! Then there were the thieves who were using their magic to commit crimes. Maybe it wasn't fighting a creature with big sharp teeth and claws, but it wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. It seemed that no matter what, his family had to come up at times. Once more, Tina was happy in letting him take smaller steps in giving her some explanation. As for the talk of her own family, that had ended. She really felt no further need to elaborate on her own unexciting life.

Not that she was going to discredit Theseus any either, she really didn't know the man. He could have been a good person, he could have been just as seemingly unpleasant as Newt's Mother seemed to be. Whatever the case, Newt had already had someone on his side despite if he had known it or not. While she hadn't been sure just how he was going to handle that attempt at a comforting gesture without use of any words? That was entirely up in the air. Though Tina wouldn't have let go unless he had wanted her to.

While she wanted to read the book right away, the tour and the handsome wizard moonlighting as the tour guide was a bit more fun. The boo was more or less an evening activity that she hoped to squeeze in between getting back to her room and the not so comfortable sleep she was destined to have. Although the invitation to see more of the book that never made it past publishing was in fact quite intriguing. " I would like to see it all. I'll let you know when I finish. " That night, one night. That was all she'd need. Even if she was half asleep and looking like a hot mess the next morning, she'd pull it off.

" Oh I'd love that! " Maybe a little too willing to help the mooncalves, but she was more than willing. Jacob may have the job should he end up in Storybrooke, but for now Tina wasn't against lending a hand to help Newt out. That and she had to face it, she had a soft spot for those giant eyed creatures. They weren't unicorns, but they were still cute in a very odd way.

" Are you hinting that you're ready for tea? " She didn't quite live for tea like some people but she took that as a pretty clear hint. " While you've done a lovely job showing me around, we can save some of it for next time. " Since apparently it was tea time. Tina had actually smiled and laughed a soft laugh when she was more than willing to let that amazement of that case end for the day. She had plenty of time to see more, or so she at least hoped so.

" Really? I've seen some things that haven't changed. Have you been to the library? It's like a much smaller New York library. " Well, not like a replica. But it was like a step back into the future where it wasn't filled with modern things that Porpentina really had no knowledge of dealing with.

Still moonlighting as a tour guide.

Newt hadn't quite caught onto the fact that Tina had been teasing him. Maybe he was used to the seriousness of it all, maybe it was more that teasing in the past had been far crueler. Whatever the reason for his feelings, at least he had a certain level of confidence that she wasn't going to have him arrested for something else again when they got back into the real world. Although, at the heart of the matter, he was far more concerned with what would happen to the graphorns after than rather than himself. He knew, he'd be fined and more than likely fired but it was hardly a hanging offense, as the muggle saying went. He just didn't see Ministry or MACUSA (whichever came first) employees being careful enough. The less said what would happen if they ran into several of the more questionable creatures in the case, the better. It would be a disaster for them and his creatures.

It was a nice thought though, of traveling through Romania with some good company. Of course, that was one trip he could hope for both more graphorns and some dragons but that was just the way he was. "Sounds like a date, eh, plan." There he was again going with poorly chosen words! Nonetheless, it was something to look forward to once they were out of this weird place. Although he wasn't against a stop off in Africa either. All down to whether or not the book sold, really. Ministry salary only got a person so far. Then again, most people didn't travel around like he did but exploration was part of the fun of life!

Perhaps in some regards, he was making up for boring elements of his childhood. While they did small trips (usually two to three days in length because of his mother's general dislike for being away from the hippogriffs) that happened once a year, during the summer, that was pretty much where it ended. The rest of the time there was work to do, chores, or homework. Somehow or another, his mother had been really good at making sure that they stayed busy. "Somethings were fun. Mother just felt too much idle time made trouble." So aside from recess while at muggle school, there was no nonsense. "And she didn't like anyone playing around the hippogriffs." Which was a valid point considering what they were capable of if offended. Deep down it was possible she just didn't want anyone to get hurt.

"I used to sneak out at night and Scarlett - she was a beautiful red roan - and I would slip off. There was a lake nearby, with a large forest, no muggles around to see anything." Of course, it never really dawned on him how dangerous it was for an eight year old to fly a hippogriff around over open water with low viability. It was freeing and that thrill of gliding through the air. "It was fun until mother caught me." He could still see her standing there, hands on hips, looking a lot taller than five foot four. "Didn't get to go on that trip to Diagon Alley that year." It served him right, really. He'd been upset at the time but that was for his own good. Plus it wasn't like she reacted like she did when he was up to be expelled. Now that had been bad! "She did bring me back a box of my favourite chocolates though." Even if the box was a third of the size it would have been had he been good. "And I got Theseus' puffskin later in the year once he was tired of it." Actually the puffskin nearly met it's end via a cricket bat. That had been some candy well traded.

Odds were that Tina didn't want to hear about the misadventures of his childhood but for some reason they just seemed to tumble right out of his mouth with her around. Which she hadn't told him to be quiet so far, so it must not have been something that was bothering her too awful much. "I think I'd much prefer the creatures over that." After all, dealing with a crazy witch, casting spells left, right and center didn't sound very fun. While he had held his own against Grindelwald (At least he was labeling it as such considering he hadn't died), dueling was never something he cared for. He could do it but adding it to a list of required skills for a profession was a bit of a painful idea. Creatures just made more sense than all that. "You're much better at all that than I'll ever be." The half a compliment, didn't quite come out right but it was too late to stuff the words back in his mouth. He looked away from her, feeling as awkward as ever.

At least talk of his book was something he couldn't screw up, not without seriously trying anyway. Although part of him still couldn't figure out how Tina was so interested. Sure he had been asked to write the book in the first place but the idea that someone would actually read it was a whole other thought! Not something that he'd thought would happen in a million years. "I'll dig them out." Dig perhaps was the apt word considering they were stuffed in a cabinet with a certain lack of order to them. Reorganizing that mess had been somewhere at the bottom of his to do list. Her willingness to help with the mooncalves did bring a smile to his face, if but a brief one. They seemed as good as any place to start if she wanted to learn. Aside from their ridiculous large feet, they were pretty harmless.

"I would like a cup of tea, yes." Maybe tea was something of a weakness to him. Maybe he also thought that drinking something might keep him from talking too much, though, it was possible, he had passed that and then some. "And maybe later, Sudaratā won't be in such an unpleasant mood. She really is a beautiful cat when not upset." But considering he also labeled the graphorns pretty in their own right, it was possible he had a skewed view on that sort of thing. "I haven't." Newt replied in regards to the library. Really he avoided most places if he could help it. It seemed easier to take the sudden changes in small bites.

With the promise of tea on the line, he helped Tina back down from the plateau, of which the graphorns watched through they showed no interest in coming over to investigate. Aside from the few mishaps, he had to admit he was having fun. Breaking things into a few pieces did seem to be wise. If only for Sudaratā's currently poor mood. "Watch the biscuit tin." Newt figured he'd better say it while he was thinking about it, "Dougal likes them." That was one of the problems with having a creature who had the ability to turn invisible, could operate on probability and who had thumbs. No biscuit was safe if Dougal could get there. "Ironically, the only thing I keep under lock and key." Although it was possible that Dougal could circumvent that if he could get a bowtruckle on board. Creatures. As fantastic as they were, they could be real pains.

Such a wonderful tour guide.
Wait. Was it a date? No. Plan. She unintentionally let a nervous giggle leave at his mention of the date. So sly Tina. That was probably a silly thing to think, though Tina had that split second of wondering. Either way, Romania was somewhere she had never gone and if or if not they saw a dragon was really just something she looked forward to seeing. Sadly for her, she also had to wait until whenever they left Storybrooke, which had to happen sooner rather than later.

It came as a surprise when he suddenly chose to tell her a little more about his life growing up, since most of it had only been bits and pieces compared to Porpentina who admittedly had no shame in going on about her own. It wasn't the greatest no. But that was only due to all the losses she had dealt with. Everything else had been fine. She could understand his Mother not wanting people around the Hippogriffs. Although it was still sad that it meant less people around for Newt to see.

But then he mentioned sneaking away with Scarlett the Hippogriff and Tina really wanted to side with him on that one! Call it a maternal instinct or just having helped to raise Queenie or something, but she'd ground her own child for months if she saw them doing that too! Her brows raised while he went into details about getting caught and missing out on that trip to Diagon Alley, which he probably didn't deserve to go at that point! She couldn't help but smile about it, maybe not about his own misfortune but that she just couldn't imagine this little kid flying a Hippogriff. " It does sound like it could have been fun, though if I'm not so sure if I were your Mother I'd be pleased either. " You know, Tina was surprised he didn't have a Hippogriff around, unless it were somewhere else in that case. She imagined there was a lot that she still hadn't seen.

" I'm glad she still thought about you, I can't imagine a parent just forgetting about their child even if they were punished. " Speaking of, she'd heard of Diagon Alley before, it was one of those other places she considered visiting one day. The States really didn't have one like that, or at least it did but the stores were more scattered throughout rather than in one general setting which may have been so much easier with No-Maj's entirely unaware.

Not that a No-Maj knew about magic, but that was in part to how badly they had to hide who the witches and wizards were and erase the memories of the No-Maj around. It was a lot of extra work and it was a pain to stay in the shadows for the most part. Sadly, with people like the Second Salem around (should they somehow re group ) and any other anti-witch groups, there was really no ending in sight.

Her position as an Auror was something she was proud of, and the compliment had been something that she especially enjoyed. Even if she bit her lip as cheeks had warmed. She really wasn't used to much praise, normally she just did her job and that was that. But to get some credit, and even more so from him, well that was a whole different thing all together. " We can all have our talents. I can be an Auror and you can do all of this. " Which was pretty huge, she'd have given anything to be able to just travel the world. Even if it didn't mean she hated being an Auror. She enjoyed that too. She liked to think she was there to help people, and that was one of the best ways that she could ever think of to do so.

" Take your time, I don't need to see them right away. " She hadn't wanted to make him feel like it was some dire need that she get them fast. Those pages that hadn't made the book she imagined weren't going anywhere, and who knew ? Maybe if it were popular enough he could release another version with them? Tina liked to hope so, at least that was because she had really hoped that his work would have gone over well with those in the wizard community at least.

She really wasn't a big tea drinker, though it had been turning into something that seemed to be more often than not when it came to Newt. While she could have just declined, she put herself through it because she enjoyed it. That and at least the taste wasn't that bad, so it wasn't the worse thing she could do. " I'll make sure he stays out of it. " It was worth a laugh, which Tina did just that. She may have slipped Dougal a couple, but other than that she intended to be pretty strict with it.

Newt Scamander <3! Fin. Maybe.
