Evanna had been enjoying a lovely early evening at the Rabbit Hole having a glass of wine and reading from a book that Belle had lent her, well really that she had borrowed from the library, but as Belle was usually the one at the library, it just felt like they were her books. Something called Pride and Prejudice by lady named Jane Austin. It was an interesting book so far, Evanna found it quite endearing in fact.

It had been a hectic holidays, Evanna had only found herself in Storybrooke a few months ago, right on the cups of the holiday seasons. Being alive again had been both refreshing, but also bittersweet since she often found herself worrying about the children still in the Underworld that Evanna had been caring for. Evanna also found out a lot in this town, including some things that she was still trying to wrap her head around, with the help of the local therapist Archie. Finding out one's son had turned into the dark one and was still alive after all these few hundred years was quite shocking, not to mention that her former estranged husband that had taken said son away from Evanna was walking around in the body of a teenager.

She'd confronted Rumple about things, but at the time he'd still been demon possessed, and now that he was well again, and demon free, she wasn't sure if he even remembered their conversation and she had no idea how to bring it up again. So much to think about, so much to feel guilty for, if Evanna had just found her son all those years ago and gotten him away from Malcolm, would he have turned into the man he was today.

Eventually Evanna finished off the last of the wine in her glass, put her book in her bag and went into the back to use the restroom. That's when things went very wrong, very wrong indeed. As she walked by the bar the glasses and bottles began to rattle, and the next thing Evanna knew she was being pulled quite unceremoniously towards a gaping swirling hole in the floor. She tried to call out, she saw some people managing to run away from the portal, but not her, she was too close and before she knew it she was sucked in and falling, just falling.

At some point she must have hit her head but she was opening her eyes to bright light, and lots of green, green everywhere, large green jungle like trees, the air was suddenly much warmer, almost tropical and humid. She was laying on her back looking up, her head ached and her eyes were slowly coming into focus, where was she, had anyone else fallen through with her..........

Auron did not mind his job at the bar, for now. It was a way to pay the bills, and he was not the easiest to ruffle so the patrons did not bother him. He rather liked it when they got drunk and belligerent with him, as it allowed him to teach some lessons that would likely not be forgotten in a hurry. He was a teacher at heart, so to speak, though he never admitted it so plainly. His lessons were always complicated, both to understand and simply to undertake, but worth learning at the end of the day. Or so he liked to think.

The drunk patrons of the bar did not tend to agree. But then, if he cared about their opinions, he would have asked if they wanted to be taught in the first place. Their behavior often dictated the dire necessity for it, which was the kind of language that spoke more to him anyway.

Tonight, despite his proclivity toward being a guardian at the door and around the establishment, Auron was situated behind the bar. He was a quiet, stoic bartender that did not really allow for any bullshit, but that was what made him good at his job. He listened, he gave advice when asked, and he served good drinks. So he did not engage in idle babble, and did not drink on the job or share shots with those celebrating or trying to bury their pain. He would need to get paid more for that kind of ‘connecting’ with people.

He noticed a woman sitting alone, drinking and reading a book, of all things. There were many kinds of people who came through this part of the establishment, though the nicer crowd tended to stay in the ‘nicer’ part of it. The bar area was for play, for pool, for heavy drinks and snack food. Reading was generally not part of the usual routine for the patrons he saw filter in and out. He was not sure he recognized her, either, though if she was a regular he probably would have known the types of books she tended to read by this point. He made a point to notice the unique people, as one never could tell when a story, a real story, was about to start.

For example, the portal opening up in the floor. He looked down, huffing and arching an eyebrow in mild irritation as the thing opened right near where he was standing, dropping him through quickly. He did not struggle or try to get away, despite the instincts others might have: he’d been pulled through enough portals at this point to know that it was best to just let it happen. He managed to land on his feet on the other side, still holding a glass and bottle of vodka he’d gotten from the back shelf for an order.

Hearing a thud, he turned to see another person appear with him. If there were others, they may have been sent to other places, or maybe no one else had been chosen to come through. He was not sure how these particular portals worked, anyway. Walking toward the woman, he bent a little, tossing the glass to the side, and offered her his hand.

“Ma’am? Go slowly, now, I know that was probably pretty jarring.”

Someone was talking to her, she was still on the ground but at least now she was in more of a sitting position, though the back of her head was throbbing, but there didn't appear to be any blood. She finally laid her eyes to rest on the source of the voice, the man that had been behind the bar, though she couldn't recall his name, A-something, she remembered it was a rather odd sounding name, not one she'd ever heard before, and perhaps if her head wasn't throbbing it might come to her.

"Mmm, what happened, that was a portal wasn't, I have to say the trip from the Underworld to Storybrooke hadn't been nearly as, as, as whatever that just was, my goodness is that what everyone experiences when falling through portals?"

Portal, well that meant they were somewhere else didn't it, though she had no idea where this somewhere else actually was. She managed to get to her feet, though she felt a bit shaky and probably looked a bit unsteady too. She touched the back of her head again but winced, it felt like there was a pretty good sized bump forming back there. She tried to focus on everything around her, but she was quite certain she had never been anywhere that looked like this.

"Do you know where we are? It's awfully warm isn't it, much warmer than where we came from, which is probably best since my jacket is back at the bar. Oh er, I'm Evanna by the way, I suppose if we are to be stuck in some strange realm together we might as be better acquainted."

“You come from the Underworld as well, do you? Interesting, then, that we’ve both fallen through this portal as well.”

Auron was a man that believed in destiny, but not that it was written in stone. They were set on paths to complete something, and it was up to them to awaken and rise up to their own potential and accomplish whatever it was that needed to be done. Usually, it was destroying a big bad villain and saving the world. He did not think that was the case here, for whatever reason.

Honestly, it smelled too pure here: there was no toxicity or pollution in the air. Who or what could need saving, when it did not seem like anything lived here?

“Auron,” he said, with a nod. He looked at her head, getting close to examine the bump, but not finding a life threatening wound there. He was glad he had not fallen, though, and avoided the hassle of a head injury. “I’ll take a look around, find some water and maybe some of these plants have medicinal qualities. You should rest a bit, and yell for me if you feel faint or nauseous.”

He knew a thing or two about herbs and potion making, but the land was unfamiliar. Nothing like Spira, or the realms opened and closed by keyblades.

A noise caught his attention and he turned his head, moving to stand protectively between the source direction of the noise and Evanna. He did not have his sword, or any weapon other than a bottle of booze, with him, but that did not stop him from taking up a defense. A small lizard-like creature emerged from the underbrush, keeping its long, but small body low to the ground save only to lift its head and chirp at them curiously. It rumbled a chittering sound through it’s throat, keeping outside of arms range and watching them with wide eyes. It had a long, scaled tail that swung behind it, and it walked on two powerful, for its size, looking legs. It had two smaller appendages higher on its body, under its long neck, but they seemed rather useless.

Evanna nodded slowly, since the man had said too, in regards to her Underworld comment, she surmised he was also one of the people who had found themselves alive again, it seemed a fairly common story amongst a few new residents of Storybrooke ever since the heroes had retrieved Hook from the Underworld and that Mr. Gold, well her son, had found a way to get them back out and alive. Still felt weird to think he was her son, she wasn't even sure if he remembered their conversation about it, since he'd been possessed at the time, and she hadn't been sure how to bring it up again, for the second time since she had put the clues together.

"Uh, yes, before that I was from the Enchanted Forest, but that was rather a very long time ago...."

The man looked somewhat vaguely familiar, but then again Evanna had been more focused on helping children in the Underworld, and avoiding anyone that meant the children harm, if he had fallen in neither category, there were many residents of the Underworld she had never meant, especially any that had spent little time in the unfinished business area.

She nodded at his remark about looking around, she was sure she was only suffering from a bump to the head and nothing serious, she didn't think she was concussed at least, but best to move slowly at first until she got her bearings straight and felt stronger after the tumultuous trip through the unexpected portal.

"If you see any white willow bark, or perhaps some feverfew or butterbur any of those would help ease my headache from the bump on my head, I do not believe it is anything as a severe as a concussion, I think it's just a combination of having hit my head when I landed and the rather tipsy-turvy trip through the portal in general."

She smiled warmly, or as warmly as one could after they've been spit out of a portal end over end rather unceremoniously. She didn't move to stand, but she did move to get into a far more comfortable sitting position, one that enabled her to look around easier and get an idea where they were, not that it helped, she recognised absolutely nothing.

"Do you know where we are? Have you ever been to this realm?"

Probably be too much to hope for that they'd fallen into a realm the man knew of, that would be far too convenient and life was rarely that fair. Of course, then she noticed the strange looking creature that had come into view, she wasn't sure she'd ever seen anything qutie like it before, but there was something about it that made her feel like perhaps she should be careful how quickly she moved and that she should be cautious, it wasn't as if she had anything she could defend herself with. She had some things in her bag that had come through with her, but she doubted throwing a book at it would do any good. She slowly got into a position that she could stand up quickly if she needed to, while her eyes darted between Auron and the creature.

"Do you know what that is? I've never seen anything like it, looks a bit like a very large lizard."

She'd seen tiny lizards before, little creatures that scampered around the Enchanted Forest, and of course she'd seen images of dragons in books, though she'd never seen a dragon herself up close, this looked like neither, yet had similarities of both to some degree.

Evanna

Auron shook his head. He had been to many, many realms in his time, and seen glimpses into many others, but had not visited one quite like this before. It seemed very clean, very pure. He could see that the vegetation was wild and untouched. It did not look particularly ancient to him, as there were massive, unruly trees like these in his homeworld, and very strange plant life and wild critters there, too. Nothing seemed entirely unfamiliar, because of that, but he also knew it was not a place he had visited before.

He glanced down when the little creature showed up. It looked a little like some of the monsters they fought in Spira, but it was small and harmless in its appearance. No claws, no magic abilities, no ties to Sin. Just a little, wobbly looking lizard with a long, thin neck and a small, round head at the end of it. It's body was compact and upright, two lithe, quick legs and a long, thick tail behind it. Its little vestigial arms were curled up against it as it regarded Evanna in confusion.

As they considered it, so it considered them: it had never seen anything like these weird, scaleless fleshy things before.

It scooted a bit closer to Evanna, reaching its head out to take a nip at her clothes, but Auron shooed it off gruffly. He watched it as it chirped at him and then skittered into the underbrush, vanishing almost immediately. A chorus of chirps soon rose up from where it had gone, though, and a few more little heads appeared from the bushes. They looked at the duo and moved closer, circling around them. There were ten, now fifteen, maybe more of the little things, and Auron frowned at them.

"Strength in numbers, I suppose. Perhaps it would be better for us to move from here."

As the little guy ran off, and then the chirping sounds indicated a larger group of the same kind of creature, when Auron said that maybe they should get moving, Evanna eagerly concurred. The one on its own had seemed harmless, but with more popping their heads out, she suddenly felt like she was being looked at with rather hungry eyes, and not just curiosity.

"I agree, perhaps we should try to find some other people, a town or village of some sort, try and figure out where we are, then we can start trying to figure out how we'll get back."

Evanna glanced around, she wasn't really sure which direction to head in, they obviously didn't want to head towards the little creatures. One direction looked as if it led down into a valley, another direction further towards higher elevations, and the opposite direction of the little creatures deeper into the jungle around them.

"I'll follow you, which ever direction you think best to head in, I'm not sure there's a right or wrong answer, but whatever gets us away from the odd little hungry looking lizard things."

Her head still hurt a bit, and moving fast made her feel a bit unsteady, but whatever got them the furthest away from the lizard creatures was far more important than a few aches and pains, she was prepared to follow Auron, she was also quite glad she'd chosen her comfortable shoes when she'd gone to the bar, if she'd worn her heels this would have been far more difficult to run.

Auron nodded his head, thinking that the sooner they got moving, the better. Sitting still left them as easy prey for anything that came looking. They did not seem too familiar with beings like Auron and Evanna, though. These little guys had not seen many humans around here, it seemed, but that was not something they could take comfort in. Likely, any carnivore would just treat them like a new snack, and if they gave any indication they were weak and easy to take out, they would be dinner before they could find a portal back home.

After all, the little ones were already getting bolder, gathering around them, talking to each other and apparently deciding which of them would get which part if they were given the chance.

The Guardian offered his arm to Evanna, to steady her and offer her some aid if she needed any. It was in his nature to take care of the people around him first of all, and since he was short a Summoner today, Evanna was his new charge. He was going to keep her safe, even if she did not need someone protecting her. Tidus hadn't, after all, or so he thought. Auron looked out for him, anyway.

"This way. Up. We can get a view of where we are, at the very least. I have no way to predict these portals, though. We'll need another one to open up if we intend on getting back to Storybrooke. If we aren't sent someplace else." Not a glass half full guy on the best of days, he knew that they could be lost for a while, if luck was against them. He also had no way of knowing how the portals worked, what summoned them, or what purpose they were meant to serve. Where they brought here for a reason, as he had been in other realms, or was it just random chance?

Auron did not really like leaving things to chance.

"If those little ones follow us, we might have to discourage them a bit," he said thoughtfully, though he did not seem worried. There were plenty of big sticks that could work in place of a sword.

Evanna leaned on the assistance of Auron, her head was still aching a bit, and it was making her a bit more off than she'd care to admit out loud. It frustrated her when she was injured herself, other people she had enough healing magic she could help, presuming they weren't too near death's door, but when it came to any of her own personal injuries she had never quite got the hang of using healing magic on herself. It took too much out of her, and certainly wasn't something she could do while they were getting away from the small lizard creatures that were eyeing them like Sunday dinner.

"Quite right, if we're lucky and this realm has magics, we may be able to find someone that can create a portal, or at least perhaps have a better idea of where one might form."

She knew there were ways to create portals between worlds, control them, but that wasn't something just anyone could do unless they had a magic bean or something that worked like a magic bean. It wasn't improbable, but what would be the odds they'd find just who they need for something like that, though if they were to find someone or something that could force a portal open, well that would be convenient, probably more convenient than their luck would allow.

As they made their way forward, the sounds of the creatures slowly started to fall behind, not entirely but enough that it seemed for now they'd backed off simply to watch what Evanna and Auron up to, perhaps they were still trying to decide how much of a fight that the two would pose for the creatures, if they decided to attack.

Evanna glanced over her shoulder.

"I think I have a small knife in my bag for cutting herbs, but I doubt it would do much against them, though I am able to do some healing magic if you get hurt, but I hate to say it I'm a bit rubbish at trying to use magic on myself, it's always been a weak point for me."

She smiled, an attempt to hide the fact it really bothered her that she wasn't as good at healing herself as she was healing others.

Auron nodded his head, thankful, always glad to have a healer around. Yuna had filled that role for them while on their journey in Spira, though Auron had not exactly been alive for it to matter to him. He managed to take care of himself, as the aloof, already dead Guardian. He never strayed too close to her when she was praying or performing the rights to Send the dead to the Farplane, of course, but they had not noticed it too much until the truth eventually came out. He had always known it would, serving them to settle a long held debt of duty to Braska.

He failed his Guardian duties once, but would never let that happen again. At the moment, he was Evanna's Guardian.

He would make sure she got back to Storybrooke.

As they were walking, rustling returned in the bushes nearby, and Auron held up his hand to slow her. He came to a stop, tense. Whatever made that noise was much larger than the creatures before. He felt eyes on them, but could not immediately spot the camouflaged creature. A dinosaur, much larger. And, with how cautious it was being, probably much more dangerous.

He turned, spotting something move. It vanished into the underbrush, and another sound came from behind him. More than one.

"We're being hunted," he informed Evanna, "some sort of pack animal... large. Fast, from what I can see," and intelligent, with the careful way they were circling them. He wished he had his sword with him, but would have to settle for the branches around them. He bent to pick one up, slowly, listening more than watching. His hand touched the branch and a dinosaur burst from the bushes ahead of him, growling at him but not immediately attacking. He looked at it, noting it walked on two legs, and had the same general body shape as the little ones. It was just much larger, with a shorter neck and bigger head, and one massive claw on each foot.

It was times like these that Evanna began to wish she had studied more than just healing magic, but it was mostly all she had ever needed back when she'd been alive and she'd never been much for fighting. Being able to lob some fire balls or anything at this point, even have a sword to wield, would probably make her feel less vulnerable to whatever these lizard creatures were. All her companion had to work with was the branches or whatever he could find to swing around, nothing that seemed like it would be terribly useful at the moment.

She glanced around as Auron delivered the bad news of them being surrounded, noticing that some of the creatures were considerably larger than the first had been, though no less terrifying. She wondered if this was what the food felt like on a diner menu, people looking at it hungrily like these creatures were looking at herself and Auron.

"Perhaps if we make it back I should ask my son for some training in some magic a bit more offensive, or at least more defensive....."

She didn't like the feeling of i they'd make it back, she'd finally found her son after a few hundred years, she'd already been dead once and wasn't looking to go back to the Underworld any time soon. A thought occurred to her, though it would probably only serve as a short distraction to the creatures, but maybe it would make them think twice having Auron and Evanna for lunch.

She slipped her hand into her pocket and found her lighter, she rarely found uses for it, as she didn't smoke, but she'd always been the sort of person to carry more in her bag than she really needed, better to have something and not need it, than not have it and wish you did. She moved carefully, her moves deliberate and slow so she didn't alarm the creatures hunting them. She ripped the arm of her sleeve as best she could to have a bit of fabric, and then did her best to take a stick and make something she could set on fire, the whole process took a good three or four minutes, but in the end she had a stick on fire.

"Maybe they won't like fire much, if we could just make them believe we are not worth the effort, hopefully we'll find somewhere to hide they can't follow, or civilisation."

She offered Auron the stick, he was stronger after all, much more capable to swing the stick around with the fire, though it wouldn't burn forever, though she did her best efforts at a bit of magic to try and keep the flame burning for as long as possible, it wasn't much, but it was something.

Auron would have been more curious about her magical family, and just how magic worked in this new world compared to what he knew from Spira, had they not been surrounded by velociraptors. As it was, he had very little attention to spare for thoughts of getting to know his companion better, no matter how rude it made him feel. He would have to apologize to her once they were back in Storybrooke. If and when, he supposed.

There were a lot of factors in getting back. Finding another portal, for one, but also... well. The dinosaurs really were a pressing concern.

Taking the torch as he was offered it, he watched the strange dinosaur carefully. It had not moved, despite being there for a while, watching them dangerously. When they moved, it snarled, reacting if they turned or seemed like they were going to make a run for it, or if they moved toward it. It did not like the stick or the exchange of hands it underwent, but it snarled and clenched its toed claws against the ground without much more action.

Auron shook his head, looking behind him.

"This one is distracting us," he said thoughtfully, "there are more behind us."

He could not see them, but he was sure of it. So sure, in fact, that he threw the torch into the bushes nearby. They caught light quickly, and two more raptors leaped through the flames, snarling and hissing. The one ahead of them, seeing their plan foiled, snarled again, and lunged toward Evanna, while the other two split up to flank both of their intended targets.

Evanna was trying quite hard not to panic, after all panicking wouldn't help anyone, and certainly wouldn't be any more likely to keep her alive through this or her companion. Nope, she had to think with a very clear head, as much as was possible when one was facing creatures that as far as she knew either had never really existed in her world, or had gone extinct a very long time ago. The fire didn't have quite the effect she had hoped, as far as distracting the creatures, if anything it seemed to perhaps be driving the creatures closer to them.

She didn't have time to think really, she'd already taken in her surroundings as much as possible, thick undergrowth, tall trees, and now of course a fire on the other side from where they were, where the dinosaurs had come from. When she saw one coming at her, she slid her hand into her bag, pulled out a bottle of pepper spray and sprayed it directly, or as directly as she could, into the creature's eyes. It screeched at the sudden burning and it slowed the creature down a bit, at least enough so she could run towards one of the trees, jump up and grab the lowest branch and pull herself up. She didn't imagine the beasts could climb, but she figured they could most definitely outrun her if she had just turned and tried to flee.

She felt one try to grab her foot as she was hoisting herself up higher, and she could feel her trousers tear as the claws dug through the cloth and into her leg a bit. The claws felt razor sharp, but she was moving fast enough that it felt like just some light scratches and nothing too deep. Her leg was definitely bleeding through, and in pain. She didn't have time to think much about it when she heard some voices coming closer to them, it sounded like men, a few at the least and next thing she knew an arrow came flying out of the trees and towards the creatures. Everything was happening too fast for her to say anything, beyond crying out when the dinosaur had scratched at her leg.

Auron moved to use a stick from the forest floor like a sword, attacking the nearest raptor with an almost effortless speed and grace. He had used these attacks so many times in his life, it sometimes felt like he had been stuck in a loop of them, practicing them so much that perfecting them had long since passed. He had no more need for experience in that regard, using them now at their utmost form. The blade did not cut, though, not the way he was used to. If only he had brought his sword with him.

Lesson learned, for next time. never be without his blade.

He smashed the stick down on a Raptor's neck, dodging sideways and swinging backwards with one arm to do so while the raptor lunged for him but ended up sailing past. It collapsed to the ground in a heap, and he turned to see if Evanna was okay. He saw the arrows instead, frowning in wonder.

Considering there had been no indication human life could coexist in the same time period as these beasts, he was surprised to find they were no as alone as he thought.

Well, at least it was convenient.

Keeping his guard up, he relocated himself closer to her, to hold a defense while their apparent rescuers came closer, though he was not sure what to expect.

As Evanna winced in pain, she glanced down at the raptor trying to claw up the tree after her, and for something she didn't imagine could climb, it was doing a rather good job at it, but not enough to actually get to her. She had dropped her bag in her haste to climb up, so she didn't have anything to wrap the wounds in, she had a spare shirt in her bag she could have used. Just then the few men broke through, clearly ready for battle, one had a bow and arrow, one had a sword, she wasn't sure what the other person had or how to describe it. They went right for the raptors, hopefully once the raptors were taken care of they would turn out to be good rescuers and not just turn on Evanna and Auron once they were done.

She moved her hand down towards her leg and tried to at least do enough magic to stop the bleeding, even if she was generally rubbish at healing herself. She was never sure why that was, why that when it came to healing herself it never seemed to work as well. She could heal others perfectly well depending on how bad the wounds were or how near death they were, but when it came to herself, she seemed to only be able to half heal. She did manage to stop the bleeding, but the wound would still need attention when all was said and done, if they survived.

She noticed a raptor trying to sneak up on Auron and so Evanna yelled over to him "Auron, watch out!!!!!!" She looked up and noticed some odd looking fruit, they resembled coconuts, with a hard shell, but also looked nothing like them at the same time, whatever they were, maybe she could use them. She grabbed one and lobbed it at the raptor sneaking up on Auron, then grabbed another one and threw it at the end at the base of the tree she was standing in.
