Strained. The word seemed a vast understatement for the current state of things between Peter and the Lost Boy. Inadequate when it came to describing the exact state of things but he wasn't entirely sure of that anyway; precisely how things were or how they were going. Even so, if considered he would have favored the word over potential and ominous alternatives... damaged... broken... doomed. He wouldn't have it. He wouldn't concede.

Too much history, too much importance to give in.

Space, however, was something he was grudgingly considering, trying even. Though only for Felix's benefit since Peter himself despised the idea given the circumstances. Approaching the other continued to be tricky, the reaction so far uncertain and unsettled. Their entire interaction precarious, and yet the alternative of leaving the boy alone completely was somehow worse. Inconceivable. So Pan had forced himself to settle in this reluctant state of 'giving space'. Temporarily.

On some days in Storybrooke he found plenty to occupy his time, even if his thoughts were never far from his second - unrelenting in his view of the boy as such, despite all that had changed - while other days felt unbearably tedious. To break the monotony of those occasions he would sometimes wander the town, 'mingle' even or some variation of it. And observe. Today he'd chosen to sit in the diner, welcome or otherwise, and perched on a stool at the counter. The owner didn't seem to be around at the moment and so the atmosphere felt a little less... scowly. So he sat, listening and watching, his gaze drifting to the door whenever it opened.

While many people in Storybrooke were of little importance to him, there were still several Pan had a specific interest in. Whether that stemmed from the person in question holding some kind of significance in Peter's mind, in whatever way that might be, or if he just enjoyed toying with a number of them.

It might have been that he was always considering who could be useful to him now or later, or perhaps he was simply bored at times. Or lonely. He neglected to give the latter idea any thought or even acknowledge it as a possibility. If he ever did or if another ever suggested such a thing he might dismiss the ludicrous notion as naive, or otherwise play along depending on his mood. Whatever his intention, today he had set out about the town to see who he might find as he wandered.

His roaming led him to a park, one which he'd visited before since arriving back here, but pleasant as it was he hadn't yet spent a great deal of time in the spot. It was quiet with few people dotted around or passing through and large enough that nobody need bump into each other unless they intended it. A perfect place to find a little semi-solitude without entirely excluding oneself. You could sit and relax, think or doze or read. Like Wendy.

Peter could see the girl across the park. Near a tree, book in hand and all alone; a suitable moment for the two to catch up.

"Look at you." He appeared a short distance behind her leaning back against a tree trunk, grin widening as he spoke. "All out in the open."

While Storybrooke had its frustrations, it was a damn sight better than and wholly favorable to its counterpart in the Underworld, a place he was determined never to return. He'd been down there for a while, time stretching and twisting in such a way that it became impossible to understand just how long it had been. Stuck and lingering in that infernal place was infuriating and death, it seemed, was boring.

Until that unlikely event of the ragtag bunch of heroes arriving on yet another fools errand, but Pan had seen his chance. His plan foiled and his doom seemingly set, only to be returned to the land of the living in some unxpected and inexplicable turn of events. Not that he wasn't glad of the strange portal that had spat him out and back into this little town.

One thing Pan had not done during his time in Underbrooke was find Felix. He had expected his second in command to be somewhere in that pale mirror of a world, but their paths hadn't crossed during Peter's time there. Nonetheless, the other boy must have been stuck too, Pan was sure of it. He couldn't imagine Felix would have already passed on to another place. In truth, he hadn't searched for him, instead expecting the boy would come to him first despite it being Pan who had sent him down there.

Since his return to Storybrooke, Peter had learned he hadn't been the only one returned from death, with many others having appeared in similarly mysterious ways. A fact which suggested that perhaps Felix too was somewhere in this little town once again. This time, Pan would seek him out. If they had been in Neverland he would have easily found the other, but here his magic wasn't so finely attuned to finding a lost... Lost Boy. For now.

It had merely taken a little longer but soon enough he'd discovered where Felix was, but had observed for a while, seeing what he was up to and what sort of company he was keeping. Eventually, Peter tired of watching and decided a reunion was well overdue.

The castle playground, as it was apparently called, was where he found the boy today. Alone. Pan approached, slowing to a stop before he appeared on the other side of the wooden structure, out of the boy's direct view and in a lazy lean against one of the posts. "I could build you something better than this, you know. If you prefer a castle to a treehouse... or a hammock... " A light shrug as he spoke and faint amusement weaved into each word, while his gaze drifted over the structure but focused on his second soon after. Only now, there was a touch of reverence as he spoke. "Hello, Felix."

It had been amusing to see the pirate captain turn up in Neverland, all growl and bravado as he'd raced in to help save Henry. Well, amusing until it wasn't. He had been part of the crew of heroes who had gone up against Pan, and he would have paid for that too if it hadn't been for the Dark One's ultimately fatal interference. Not that it mattered now, at least as far as Peter's chance to offer some sort of reaction. Delayed though it might be.

As far as Pan thought, Killian should expect nothing less than to be graced with a visit. They did after all have plenty of history; it would be rude not to drop by and say hello, and what better place to do so than upon his prized ship? Maybe it would be considered equally impolite to board the vessel uninvited, but that had never hindered Pan before.

He assumed at this hour Hook was likely to be lingering at the docks or nearby, if not aboard his beloved ship where Peter now appeared. If Killian turned out to be somewhere else in Storybrooke then Pan might decide to seek him out, or else leave a little message behind on the Jolly Roger. However, as he sensed somebody approaching, Pan bet it to be the man himself. "Still fighting the good fight, captain?"
