TO THE GODDESS IN CHAINS
Even the air felt artificial.

Zoë had been forced to get used to the urbanisation of the world, the creeping advance of gravel and cobblestones and pavement and tarmac that began to overlay every green place and every tuft of grass. Even that wasn't enough for the humans, of course. Hamlets had turned into villages, villages into towns, towns into booming cities with smoke and dirty water and a thousand thousand lives piled one up on top of the other. Houses had sprung up in neat little lanes and suddenly the world she had hunted in, full of open spaces and plains as far as the eye could see had turned into a labyrinth of streets and roads and car parks and shopping malls, with beaming lights that blocked out the skies and obscured the stars. Whether she liked it or not - and she certainly didn't - it was still there, and growing by seemingly every minute, and she and the Hunters had always quickly passed on in search of new quarry. But this was the first time she'd been in one of these places...alone.

Before she'd always had the Hunters. Now, as she sprang lithe as a cat from step to step in the shadows of the street she couldn't help but feel vulnerable at all sides - flanks, dead ahead, behind her where there was no one to cover her back. The only steps she heard were her own, the only rustle of bows at her back - again, her own. Nothing but her own. Her breath clouded in the winter air and she drew her hunter gear around her tightly, the fur trim a fuzzy haze around her as she kept walking. It wasn't the silver circlet nestled in her dark hair as if it belonged there that weighed her down.

It was the very absence of it, and of her girls.

She knew the town, of course. Its streets were familiar to her even as she had walked closer to it, saw the first glimpses of buildings and houses and cars through the trees, and she had no problem walking along its streets. This was the same town as the one in the Underworld, the one Hades had changed it to for no readily apparent reason one day...almost exactly the same. A car rumbled into life a street away and her fingers tightened around her bow - but it didn't come her way, and once again the street was quiet. No. It wasn't the unfamiliarity. The question was, of course, whether it was still the Underworld...levels within levels, or somewhere else entirely. She wasn't entirely sure who - or what - to believe. So Zoë went cautiously around the perimeter, still cautious and alert.

It was at that point that she heard voices. From the west, around the corner from where she was standing. She suddenly looked up, standing stock still. Two voices - male - laughing, she thought she heard - she rattled off the characteristics like it was nothing, years and years of practising tracking coming to a head. There were two people coming, she realised - but she froze. No no no. She knew that voice...and she knew where she'd heard it before. She drew her bow instinctively - only to think again. Not with his father! The thought flashed white hot against her mind and and she instead darted behind the wall of the nearest building, pressing flat against it. Her heartbeat thudded in her chest and she stayed stock still, waiting as the voices got closer and closer. Always in the hunt Artemis had said to stay quiet, to freeze and to wait to know what the prey was doing before striking. She had heard the words a thousand times before, told to each new girl who had come to the Hunt - who didn't yet know the art of pursuit. But they came back to her now, suddenly, and she realised one thing.

She never said what to do if you were the prey.

I bare my skin
And I count my sins
It was true, he wasn't particularly comfortable in that city. He was not comfortable in a city that vaguely reminded him of the Underworld, in a city where they were practically imprisoned, in a city where he knew his father was in, and yet he had only once deigned to stand before his numerous prayers. It was... it was outrageous. He didn't feel comfortable, he didn't feel at ease, and he wanted to go back to Camp, to the Underworld... being honest didn't matter where he had the chance to go as long as it wasn't there less Tartarus obviously. And maybe he was exaggerating, since... well, relatively good things had also happened in that city.

He had met people who hadn't been completely unsatisfactory, such as Grace, Luna, Lucy... with the last two he had even exchanged gifts. Well, that had been awkward, at least from his perspective. Lucy had confused him at first with her brother, as they seemed to be chillingly similar, and then... well, he hadn't exactly considered her a friend after that little encounter, he had considered her more like a little annoyance that didn't leave him alone, but deep down he had grown fond of her, and had even ended up giving her something at Christmas.

She had also bought him something, much to his surprise. He had not bought her anything expecting something in return, for what he had heard Christmas was about giving and not receiving, but... well, look how things had ended, he had ended up receiving something he had not even asked for, something that had come out of the goodness of their hearts I'm so cheesy. His first Christmas had not gone as badly as he had expected, for it was true, he was not yet enthusiastic about Christmas or any of America's iconic feasts, but... certainly it had not been the worst. Even the dead had seemed a little more alive that day.

Although maybe we should stop focusing on the past and look at the present. That day he had surprisingly agreed to take a walk with Solace, you know, a kind of commemoration or celebration or whatever you want to call it after a month without seeing each other. A month... it seemed more like it. It was true that he had missed the talks that mostly included small and harmless bickers that both of them shared, but it wasn't that he was going to announce it to the world. He felt, though it may seem contradictory if we judge from what we have said before, comfortable with him, free to be who he really was without being judged. Of course no one in the city knew who he really was, but that did not mean that they could not judge him by his black clothes or his stillness, as if that automatically meant something bad, as if it was screaming trouble.

He didn't care, not anymore. Now he felt safer than before, with Apollo's son at his side, even so at ease that the blonde had managed to make him laugh. Nico di Angelo, laughing. They were words that didn't make any sense together, and yet they were there, for it was true, he was laughing and all because of something his boyfriend had said. Another word he was not yet fully prepared to say aloud... perhaps one day, but not now, it still felt too soon, but to pronounce it in his inner thoughts... it didn't feel bad.

Now, just because he was stuck in the conversation he was currently having, it didn't mean that he wasn't alert to the sounds or movements around him. A demigod should always be alert, for you never knew what to expect around the corner. Ironic, given that the movement he had felt was literally around the corner. As far as he knew, Will had no weapon in his person, but fortunately he had been swallowed by the portal with his black sword, so taking a finger to his lips to make the blond shut up wow rude much, he walked slowly around the corner, standing still to sharpen his ear.

The street was immersed in the purest of silences, except... exactly, nothing was heard, nothing could be heard when he had clearly heard and seen movement for a few seconds, moving, judging by his ear, towards the wall. And he beat his rhythm to it, hoping Will would stay behind because it was perhaps a dangerous thing and even though he knew Will could defend himself, he didn't have any weapons and he didn't want to risk it. But... oh, dear ones, what he saw as he approached the wall, the face he could recognize in the shadows. Memories came to his head like a wave - he screamed at her, she looked for his sister, the pain, the misery, the hate... he could only murmur a barely audible "You...".

Will Solace & Zoë Nightshade soooo weak it's not even funny. does this even make sense?

Oh the laughter!

Joy was a wonderful thing, of course it was, but seeing the Son of Hades break into laughter, smiling, well he could only describe such a thing as the most beautiful thing in all the world. It was rare that the boy did display his emotions in such a way, and so moments like this were ever so more precious to Will. As compared to that of a person who was rarely not smiling cough it was always going to be more special coming from someone who didn’t so much. So honestly, their little reunion walk couldn’t possibly be any better. A month had been too long for them to be apart, at least, he believed so. He was admittedly very much an optimist when it came to such things, but even so, the worry he had felt had been something else entirely. Much more so than any reaction he had to ending up in Storybrooke.

It had been an odd sort of an emptiness, and so in truth, he was happy being in this strange new town if it meant he was reunited with him.

Not to say that he hadn’t wondered why he was here in the first place, if there was a way back home, or what even their purpose was for being here. But he believed answers would come in time, and right now, everything was completely fine. There was no need to waste more time stressing, it wasn’t exactly healthy. So focusing on some happiness could only be a good thing, and he was glad of di Angelo for joining him in it. And so his own laughter matched Nico’s while they walked, his smile bright as always while he chattered along for a while.

Probably not nearly paying as much attention to his surroundings as he usually did, for in a moment his boyfriend had put his finger to his lips, motioning for Solace to fall quiet. He furrowed his brow, immediately shutting his mouth and just listened. Letting di Angelo move forwards in front of him alongside a wall, carefully edging round it to reveal…a girl. Naturally, he beamed at her cheerfully not directly recognising her in that instant. Raising one hand to wave politely, “Oh…hey” he offered, deciding that unless she proved herself to be some kind of a threat the best foot forward would to be friendly, something Nico hadn’t quite mastered in the kindest way possible.

By the teenager’s reaction to the girl, he recognised her. And not…not in a good way. The blonde raised an eyebrow, walking forwards so that he stood next to Nico. If he was upset? His gaze searched the boy for answers. A vague memory would tell him that a few years ago, this girl had visited Camp Half Blood with the rest of the Hunters of Artemis. Although it took him a moment to reach that level of recognition, after all, he hadn’t had much to do with them at the time. And so he scratched the back of his head softly, “You alright?” he asked carefully, watching the girl (who the name of could possibly be on the tip of his tongue, or not, but truly he couldn’t be certain) although the question was more directed to Nico. Not that it would be particularly obvious to anyone else.

five will go west
TO THE GODDESS IN CHAINS
Zoë had hoped that by staying still and quiet Nico and whoever it was would move on past, but the talk almost immediately stopped. She froze, pressing herself up against the wall, her fingertips trailing over the brick. Had one of them seen? No no no, she thought. Not again. She had bumped into Nico once and that was enough for her. Bianca was too raw for both of them to meet again, to know that Bianca was gone and there was no going back. The guilt, the shame - the grief - was too much, and part of her feared the demigod. Bianca was different - kind, wise beyond her years. But her brother, on the other hand...she heard footsteps and her heart beat wildly but she pinned down the urge to run, to dart for the shadows and hope they wouldn't follow her. That would make for a chase and she'd gone on enough hunts to know how that ended. If she stayed still, and quiet, and hoped for the...

Best.

The one person she hadn't wanted to ever see again came around the corner, and there was no chance of hiding now. The ex-Huntress found herself looking towards the young demigod, and soon enough sounds of more footsteps could be heard - but thankfully not those of his father's. Instead it was another boy, so different to Nico they could have been direct opposites - and instinctively she wanted to step back from not one but two boys, but there was nowhere behind her but the wall. Nowhere to go. And the other boy's smile was so warm and cheerful that it almost gave the opposite effect. Rather than answer to his greeting she looked to the son of Hades. "Nico. 'Tis you." Her voice wavered a little, and she dredged up some of her old, haughty pride enough to take one tiny step away from the wall; anything to show she wasn't scared. But she was - of where this could go, and more importantly if she deserved it.

It wasn't obvious who the boy was referring to, but he seemed to be contemplating her in a way that she didn't like. But then Zoë had only recently taken a liking to one boy, and was still warming up to the other half of the species - let alone another two. Old Huntress instincts aside, it was Nico di Angelo, once again, in the flesh. And this time he had brought a friend, and she didn't know what that meant. She eyed them both, guarded and trying as best as she could to hide her fear. If this was the Underworld this was his land now. "No," she admitted to him, but quietly - almost to herself. No, she wasn't alright.

She looked between them. Hunter's instinct reminded her of the bow in her hand, but she didn't have any arrows - and besides, it would be difficult to aim and shoot with them so close. But she gripped it tightly all the same, drawing comfort from its familiar knots and whorls of the wood. "What dost thou want with me?" Any attempt to speak in the confusing modern tongue had left her as soon as the nerves had set in - she was left with her own mother tongue, archaic as it was.

I bare my skin
And I count my sins
The pain never went away, that was true. Time healed the wounds and the pain was tame little by little, to the point of barely noticing it, to the point of becoming an annoying pain on your side. Now, to see her, to see Zoë Nightshade, the hunter who he hadn't seen her in 4 years since their encounter in the Underworld, everything came back. Everything he had felt, everything he kept feeling, but had been repressing. Bianca's memory was still painful, still hurting and draining him, because even when he now had Hazel, even when he had a sister whom he loved beyond all reason, Bianca... she was different, she was his older sister, she was the one who had always cared for him, who had promised that she would never abandon him... she lied.

In the olden days he hadn't thought that pain would ever leave him. He felt so broken, empty, without any purpose in life, without anyone who cared for him, without anyone who wanted or could bear to be around him. He wanted to die, for a long time, the only thing he had wanted was to get into that eternal dream and submerge himself in the darkness and never wake up and hopefully be able to be with Bianca, again, be able to be with the light that had illuminated his life, the person for whom he would do everything. Even at Argo II, more than once, he had desired things that should not be desired, he had hoped for a destiny that no one should ever receive, that Bianca should have never received.

Hearing her voice, oh, it was... baffling. She looked frightened, just as she had looked back in the Underworld. She was afraid of him. Nico couldn't blame her, he'd have no reason to. Jason, and all the other members of the prophecy had been afraid of him to some extent, many of them had even believed that he was secretly working for the bad guys... first they had thought he worked for Kronos, then they thought he had betrayed Camp Half-Blood by never mentioning the existence of Camp Jupiter, all seemed to be betrayals around him. Again, he could not blame them, considering that he was the only demigod until recently who knew of the existence of both Camps. A vital piece of information, which maybe would have saved both sides from the war between them, if only something had been said... but what was done was done, and to be honest, he did not regret his decision either. He couldn't have said anything about either Camp, anyway.

He should also mention that hearing Will perform so... Will-ish you know, cheerful and friendly in front of her had upset him, but why? He no longer felt any kind of... hatred towards her. He had forgiven her, just as he had forgiven Percy, just as he had forgiven himself, he no longer blamed anyone else for Bianca's death, because certain deaths were inevitable. But that did not mean that it was painless, that her death was not present in his thoughts, that the anniversary of her death did not draw every last drop of water from his body, until he was completely dry and empty, like a vase with no flower to hold.

"I'm fine," he muttered under his breath as he heard Will question someone's wellbeing, though he wasn't sure who he was referring to. Him or Zoë. It didn't matter, he wasn't fine, not at all, he wasn't fine. The memories that were coming back dangerously fast, like a plague, were not comforting, and what he was feeling, what was invading him again due to seeing her, anger, sadness, resentment... He thought that all that would be buried and forgotten, but he was wrong, oh so wrong. All he needed was to see her again, her, the indirect cause of his sister's death.

And look at that, she remembered his name. Quite a compliment. "You're alive," he flatly stated, announcing the obvious. Well, obvious to him, because he assumed that Will would have no way of knowing that Zoë had died and gone to the Underworld, where she had spent surely some memorable years. And that little detail, her being alive... oh, it really bothered him. Why was she alive? why her? why not Bianca? Oh yes, Bianca had chosen to reincarnate, he knew it. He knew of her choice, he knew he hadn't even had a chance to say goodbye to her, to tell her once again that he loved her, to memorize her face... but what if she hadn't been reborn? would she be there too, alive? looking as brave and strong and independent as ever? He would have no way of knowing because she was gone, and he couldn't bring her back.

Before her next words, he turned his gaze away from the girl and directed it to the blonde, the only person who could hopefully calm him down in those moments. Nico was looking for... I don't know, he didn't know for sure, but anything, consolation, a look that confirmed that he would stay with him, no matter what happened, that he wouldn't leave him alone. He needed something constant now, he needed it urgently. "Nothing, we don't want anything from you," he replied for both of them, without taking his eyes off the blonde, he didn't want to, but he had to, because he didn't want to be rude either. "Zoë Nightshade, daughter of Atlas and hunter of Artemis..., Will Solace, son of Apollo" as they didn't know each other, he assumed that presenting them would be... uh, easier, so to speak.

In all honesty, he wasn’t exactly surprised that his boyfriend would know somebody that he didn’t, after all, the Son of Hades had had more opportunity than most to become acquainted with both the living and the dead. Although perhaps the idea of the other two ‘knowing each other’ might be a little too friendly of an assumption from the way the girl was holding herself, almost as if she was going to bolt, and yet stood her ground defiantly. The atmosphere he’d found himself standing in certainly hadn’t become a pleasant one, his attempt at his usual cheerfulness clearly wasn’t being well received, but then again, he had no way of knowing the extent of the history di Angelo shared with this girl. And so he furrowed his brow softly, as to the girls ‘no’ of course, an immediate reaction would be to want to help.

As of course he wanted to do something, and perhaps on any other occasion would have attempted to do some variation of just that right then.

However, he very much doubted that things were going to be that simple.

He did not believe Nico for feeling ‘fine’ in all this, he hadn’t exactly been born yesterday, and it was pretty obvious that neither of them felt fine. If anything…hurt. There was a pain there, not that Nico ever made reading his emotions at all easy. It was pretty clear how he was feeling about the girl’s presence here. And so his smile dimmed slightly, and he shifted his weight over his feet while continuing to almost assess the situation. His eyes flicking back over to the strange girl upon Di Angelo’s next sentence, although not necessarily in confusion, but perhaps even a little… excitement. Being brought back alive wasn’t a very normal thing, for the sake of whatever ‘normal’ might mean to a demigod these days. And so he couldn’t help but find himself watching the girl once again, with a little more well, curiosity in that respect. A billion questions floating through his head in that instant.

Mainly, just how? No child of Apollo could possess such a talent – nothing, nothing as far as he knew could be this powerful. Unless it had something to do with the Gods…but then…why? Not to say that being revived was a bad thing, but surely there was some purpose to all this? The boy blinked, keeping his thoughts to himself for the moment, although he couldn’t hide how impressed he was by the idea despite the uneasiness of the situation the three of them seemed to share. He would be lying to say that the girl for this very reason alone hadn’t sparked his interest. But he stayed silent, feeling the boy’s gaze turn to settle upon him he stood still, letting him take control how he liked within reason.

While he had still retained a soft smile, it changed, perhaps warmer for Nico as a silent expression of understanding. Was the boy looking for reassurance? Of course he would be, and Will would be there to provide it. He might have even moved to take the teenagers hand in his own, but he didn’t, he knew that contact wasn’t something di Angelo was all that comfortable with, he didn’t see it helping right now…in front of her. So instead he dipped his head ever so slightly, in a silent ‘it’s okay, I’m here’ if there could be words to describe such a nod. Not that actions could always be translated so easily, he hoped that Nico would still understand.

All the same, he was glad of introductions at least. That was always a start. So, Zoë Nightshade? “Of course” Of course she would be one of the Hunters, it was all too obvious now if it hadn’t been before. From the bow, the girls speech, and now her name…he recognised it. He knew that the Hunters of Artemis had visited Camp Half Blood years ago, and there had been a quest…“I’ve always-“ he shook his head, he’d never met a Hunter before, never spoke to one. He held a lot of respect for them, even though he doubted his opinions would be very much cared for here. He knew their views on men, even if he might be the son of Artemis’s brother. Most of Apollo’s kids liked to think that they could easily match the Hunter’s talents in archery after all.

“You’re in Storybrooke” he finally attempted to try and be… helpful? Not that a name for the town had been all that useful to him when he’d arrived, it had been something at least. He hadn’t exactly been here all that long himself. And he had no way of knowing how long this girl had been here either. For all he knew she might very well think she was still…dead. It was sad to see how cornered she appeared, scared, hostile, and so his opened one arm to indicate that she could move further from the wall if she wanted. Wanting to keep some peace here, since other than Nico she was the next closest thing to…familiarity. Not that he had a right to describe all this in such a way. He was completely in the dark here (ironic), at least, he didn’t know the full story. And didn’t expect to hear it either, clearly that was between Nico and Zoë.

“As you can see, none of us really expected this…we haven’t come here to find you” he explained with a slight shrug, adding to what Nico had said previous. “-Or hurt you” he added more softly, it felt strange saying those words, but he hoped that at least some of the tension could ease here. At least with time. His gaze flickered back to watch di Angelo, almost as if to confirm this. Keeping close to the boy, not enough to make contact, but still close enough to keep his presence felt. After a month apart, he certainly wasn’t about to be going anywhere any time soon.

TO THE GODDESS IN CHAINS
Zoë met Nico's eyes with naked apprehension. If she'd had control over the situation - magic, maybe, to spirit herself away - she would have done so. It was better than looking in Nico's eyes and seeing all that pain reflected back at her. She once again tightened her grip on her bow until her knuckles flashed white. Could she excuse herself? Find some way to get past him? Her eyes shot to what she could see behind them, wondering if there was any way she could escape this. She really, really didn't need a repeat of what happened last time.

Was it cowardly of her to still think of herself? To still want to cringe and just get away from the memories that rose up every time she saw Nico? Although she acknowledged everything logic didn't stop the pain from hurting, didn't cauterise the wound. But as long as he was here...a sense of dejection rose over her. Zoë would never be able to get away from him. The Underworld, with its new model, wasn't big enough. The thought of having to see him every day made her stomach turn.

"You're alive." Irrationally, against all odds, hope suddenly leapt into her chest. "What?" She looked to him, confused - hardly daring to believe it. But it couldn't be true. One will die by a parent's hand. Unless the meaning of that word had changed without her noticing, of course, that was obvious. She met the other boy's eyes in a bid to work out what Nico meant - the blond, the one she didn't recognise but looked surprisingly happy to be here. He was more relaxed than either of them, and she just frowned, distracted from whatever Nico trying to say. There was an energy about him that reminded her of someone, though she wasn't sure of who. Someone calling her sweetheart...but she once again was reminded of why she was here in the first place. He couldn't know, she decided. If he did he wouldn't be looking at her like that, not if he knew what she'd done to his friend's sister.

If they were just friends, that was. She looked between Nico and the boy. Nico seemed close to him, and Zoë suddenly got the sense she was intruding on something. It was almost subliminal. She averted her eyes, feeling that she was an uncomfortable third presence. But still - nothing? Her face must've been a picture. She'd expected....she didn't know what she'd been expecting. Nothing so dramatic, certainly, but at least a confrontation of some sort. The Huntress blinked, suddenly rendered uncertain, questions weighing down her tongue.

First of which being his parentage. "A son of Apollo." Despite where she believed she was, loyal to her lady to the end she said the God's name with a certain amount of...hmm, questionable reverence. Of course - Apollo. That was where she was getting that feeling from. Zoë's eyes narrowed suspiciously. Boys. Boys with bows and arrows. She could hardly say she was impressed - of him or Apollo, for that matter. He'd always seemed a little too cavalier for her tastes, far too keen on winding up herself and the Hunters. And that didn't improve with that sentence that his son went to cut off. "Always? Always what?" Suddenly there was a hint of her old self about her, a haughty pride that rose from the depths. Yes, Zoë had multiple ideas about how that sentence ended and none of them were particularly welcome.

At his invitation to move forward she did so, taking one hesitant step and then another. Hearing about a son of Apollo had made her rally a little, if only to uphold her Huntress roots. Her eyes flashed like a wild animal, a reminder of the very creatures she could, and had, hunted down. What would Artemis say to see her lieutenant behaving like this? "Alright." She was not so easily soothed and that didn't make this encounter any less awkward, quite frankly, despite Solace's attempts; perhaps the abject fear had retreated, but the Hesperid was still wary. "Storybrooke. I have not heard of this place. Thou hast surely come and gone nowhere." What are you telling me? A quizzical look came into her eyes and she referred to Nico. Surely he was the one who was meant to know more about this than all of them, despite their own bad blood. "No. We are in thy father's kingdom." Zoë nodded to herself. "Thy father has made improvements, surely."

She looked between them. What were they trying to say? Despite her hope - despite the desire to join Artemis once again - she did not understand, and knew better than to walk on ground so untested. "Expected what? We are in the Underworld, yes? I am not alive, Nico. Your blood must tell thee." She gave him a look, pregnant with meaning. "Thou must know it is so." Her voice softened. "I don't...need trouble, Nico." She just wanted to get on with her afterlife. If they wanted nothing to do with her then she expected them to move on - not talk riddles.

I bare my skin

He managed to calm down, at least slightly. Solace's head movement had been enough to bring down his nerves noticeably. It was true that he wasn't the best when it came to reading body language, and perhaps if that assent had come from someone else he wouldn't have understood it or would have misunderstood it, but after spending an entire summer with Apollo's son, let's say he got used to his body language, so understanding what he had meant by a simple gesture, that hidden feeling between them two that he had conveyed to him, hadn't been extremely difficult to guess, fortunately.

He remained largely silent as Will tried to reduce the discomfort that was plaguing the environment, beginning by explaining where she was and also clarifying that their actions had not been to find her and clearly did not intend to harm her. The black-haired boy only rolled his dark eyes as he felt the blonde's gaze on him when mentioning they didn't wish to hurt her, as if he were looking for some kind of confirmation. Nico didn't want to hurt her, he didn't understand why would he want to hurt her. She had hurt him long before, she had created an irreparable wound that would surely never close, but that didn't necessarily mean that Nico wanted to take revenge physically. Perhaps he had wanted it in the past, but now... he didn't feel like doing anything.

Oh, look at that, apparently Zoë hadn't realized she was alive, she hadn't realized that they were no longer really in the Underworld, even though the surroundings looked chillingly similar. But obviously she hadn't realized she was alive, why would she? She thought she was in the same place where she had been for four years, four years without being able to get out and do nothing but wander around, trying to find something to entertain herself with. For many the Underworld was a nasty place... horrible, no one was happy to hear its name, nor did no one seem eager to end up there. Even some people, mostly mortals, came to consider it hell. A common mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

Now, the Italian couldn't help but frown when he heard how the huntress pronounced Apollo's name. He knew the feelings of Artemis' hunters towards the god Apollo, he had even known him when he was 10 years old, and although he had thought that the god of the sun was a little... eccentric, so to speak, he had not found him so horrible either. Although we also had to keep in mind that he hadn't had much of a chance to even talk to him, but hey, as far as he had experienced, Apollo wasn't as bad as Zeus could be. "Careful" and no, he wasn't defending Apollo, he doubted that he would defend any god other than his own father, he was more defending Will, one way or another. Artemis hunters used to see Apollo's sons as a cheap copy of their father, flirty and egocentric, and Nico wouldn't let Zoë even dare to see Will that way overprotective Nico everyone. And he was also aware that being who Will was, he surely wouldn't even be offended, but Nico had taken the offense for both of them.

The demigod only watched as Zoë accepted Will's proposal to move forward, and silently listened as she spoke of Storybrooke, the city no one had ever heard of. He had not heard of it either before landing in the forest thanks to the portal that had decided to swallow him from the Underworld. A very nice way to be kidnapped, indeed. But she was still confused, she was still confused because she didn't know what to believe and what not to believe, and she managed to confuse him. "No. We are in thy father's kingdom." oh, once again common mistake. "We're not," he spoke, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Nico was sure that if they were in the land of the dead, he would know. He had a connection to the Underworld, not to mention that all the inhabitants of Storybrooke were alive, all of them. There was no way that they would be the Underworld. It was only the city in which his father had been inspired, or more specifically the one his father had copied.

"We're not in the Underworld, I thought you might have noticed it by now" his voice didn't... carry any emotion. It didn't compare to how he had been talking before, how he had been laughing and smiling. Now every trace of what a few minutes ago had been there, had left without leaving a trace. "Your heart beats, your body temperature is warm... you're healthy, although I wouldn't be the best one to tell you" he shrugged, perhaps, and just perhaps, directing a special little smile just for Solace, who apparently had chosen to stay with him at all times. That reassured him, because he felt close to him. this is not his typical behavior, treasure it. "Your life signs are far from death, believe me, I would know".

After all, he felt death. And she, oh no, she was far from dead. She was healthy, maybe a little altered. And confused, but healthy. That fact irritated him. "Who said you're gonna get in trouble? Didn't you hear Will? We don't want to hurt you" pronouncing those words... had felt strange, but he didn't regret it either. He didn't want to hurt her, and even if he didn't feel completely at ease in her company, he didn't wish her any harm. Not anymore.

The girl seemed…really surprised to the knowledge that she was alive. Which well, he assumed if you were dead would soon come as a bit of a shock. Almost perhaps in the same sense that when you die, you never truly expect these things. You hold on to what you know and strangely he figured that in Zoë’s case it was…her death? All the same he kept his thoughts to himself, only smiling a little brighter to the mention of his parentage “Yes, I am” he never really saw it as something to be particularly proud of. After all, it always seemed to be the Gods who brought trouble to Camp Half Blood in truth and he’d never actually met his father to have much of an opinion on who he was. However, he did have him to thank for much his healing. And his siblings joy for music and archery, in that respect, he didn’t see having a Godly parent as an all bad thing as some might.

To her repeat of his ‘always’ he simply blinked, he hadn’t meant for her to take any offence if that was how she was reacting to his words. If anything, he wanted to demonstrate how…how much he was in awe of actually meeting a Hunter! Although how he’d go about saying that after how hostile she seemed to be acting he wasn’t entirely sure. So he doubted whatever phrase of words he’d string together for her would be well received, and so he chose not to reply. Not out of rudeness, but she wasn’t making things easy for any of them here. By her reaction, he didn’t doubt that she could probably figure it out for herself. And so he dipped his head slightly, whatever impression she was giving for herself while she stood here, didn’t change the amount of respect he held for the hunters. She might appear like a wounded animal right now, but she certainly looked…’strong’ for it. She still had a sense of pride about her, he admired that.

Despite her confusion, and he could empathise with that, considering he hadn’t exactly had all the answers when he arrived either. Although the fact that he was in an entirely different place had been obvious to him, it didn’t take away the fact that arriving somewhere new could be scary. It was only natural to be hostile to it all, to defend yourself. And so his gaze flickered between Nico and the girl as his boyfriend explained the fact that she was not in the Underworld. Not exactly in the warmest way he could get to the point around things, but then again, this was the son of Hades. He listened to his words, Zoë Nightshade, at least from where he was standing appeared perfectly healthy. Of course, he wasn’t anywhere near close enough to do a proper examination himself but he didn’t doubt di Angelo. His smile broadening with almost pride to his boyfriend’s assessment, and nodded his head in agreement.

It felt good to hear the boy confirm his words, and his heart welled slightly with warmth. “We don’t have all the answers here, but I, we can help you” he offered, not entirely sure what help the two of them could actually provide. Support? He wasn’t sure the huntress would take it, he was quite prepared for her to take some offence to his offer of help. He wondered how long she’d been out here…alive, that would mean that she’d need to eat, sleep, do all the things she’d done when she was actually living he imagined. And while Nico said she looked healthy, and even if that was the physical case, she was still very much confused. It didn’t feel right to turn away from that, at least until she…he didn’t know what it should be called. Re-accustomed to being alive? That sounded silly. “If you want of course, it’s just that things are different here” he added gently. Stopping himself from moving to her, but rather glanced over to Nico instead with a soft shrug.
