It wasn't fair. It wasn't bloody fair, and this kid was still in her face. "What?" Zelena rubbed at the corners of her red rimmed eyes and just looked at Nico. He looked tired, like the bird had taken energy to revive, and hadn't moved from the door yet. The thought came to her that he might try and bolt, but she didn't move to lock the door. Right now she didn't know if she had the strength. She just looked to him. How was sorry enough? How dare he come in here! "You came here and you say sorry?" she said incredulously - only to stop. He was only some kid, but yet even now there were shadows of Hades, a faint resemblance. He must've taken after his mother in some ways but there were still parts of Hades in him - not even physical. They were more like something in his expression, almost the same look Hades had given her moments before disappearing at her emerald castle back in Oz - sadness tinged with regret - mixed with tiny tics of behaviour that would probably have gone unnoticed otherwise but leapt out at her because knew his father so well. Little giveaways, each and every one, and there was a prickling across her skin. She realised she looking at Nico intensely, and her eyes lowered to the tabletop. "Oh, I can see him in you," she murmured. The witch had spoke her thoughts aloud without really meaning to, and the observation suddenly made everything that much worse. 'Sorry'. Like that made any difference. Her hand went up to her mouth and she took a breath. Better to know than not. Yes, but not like this. Surely, never like this. She looked past Nico to the skeletal bird, still hopping about on the counter like nothing was wrong. Her gaze lingered on it. "I don't know." Her voice was hollow. "That's what they're all meant to be like, isn't it? I've only met Hades, but I've heard things. Gods and the women who get tangled up with them. I'm not stupid." She struggled for words for a second. Her throat felt dry. "Zeus's - different," she yielded, glancing to Nico, "I know that. But that's not...not what I meant." Zeus was willing to stop his own brother's heart. "Fidelity. Not going around and having things like you." She looked to him and a trace of something ugly came into her gaze. Prickling. And he didn't seem to know anything. "He was banished," she said. She looked at him like he was stupid. "Don't give me that. You know this. You must do. I don't have time for this!" She'd meant to come across as angry but her voice cracked and she took a second to control herself. Anger would be shattering right now. And yet it seethed quietly, underneath all the turmoil. "The Olympian Crystal? His father?" She was looking to Nico, trying to see if any of this actually struck a chord with the boy. It didn't seem to ring any bells. "He tried to, or murdered his father - oh - " She clicked her fingers. Zelena hadn't had the benefit of anything even vaguely nearing a classical education, let alone a formal one. Then again, did it really count as something to cover in a curriculum when it suddenly launched itself into her life? " - Kronos. Or someone." Bloody hell, her head was hurting and she was still reeling. This wasn't the time for a history lesson. This wasn't her responsibility. Nico wasn't her responsibility. She swallowed and her voice sounded hoarse, quivering a little as she spoke. "He tried to kill Zeus, too. As punishment Zeus stopped his heart and banished him to the Underworld." She frowned. "He told me parts, others I learnt - afterwards." She averted that topic. But you didn't know?"Her hand went to her head and she rubbed at her temple. "Look, that doesn't matter. It's broken now. I broke it." Her voice twisted. And all that time...her breath hitched and she changed the topic. "Do I even ask?" she questioned dully. She looked to Nico, helpless. "About the woman? You?" She shrugged, almost carelessly, but she was teetering on the edge. "Do I want to know? I mourned him, got him back, and how he's got some secret son. So are you going to explain yourself? You can't just..." It's not fair. It's not fair. None of this made any sense, and yet it made terrible, terrible sense at the same time. Zelena rallied. "Leave me like that." Who was this boy? Or did she even want to know? ADD.: Nico Di Angelo | WORDS: 770 | NOTES: ♛ Ames

He didn't have much to apologize for, either, now that he was starting to think about it more centrally. Yes, it was true that he had invaded her privacy and had surely committed a crime, but he had done so with just reasons justifying his actions. He had nothing to apologize for, he was not guilty of Hades having decided to keep him as a secret, he had no guilt whatsoever that perhaps now something similar to mistrust was growing inside her heart... those things were happening, and if her new boyfriend had been frank and sincere from the beginning of their relationship, all that would not have happened, and they could have saved the trouble, both of them.

He shrugged as he heard her speak, her tone of voice clearly indicating that apparently his last word had not pleased her much. What could he say about that? he didn't want to ruin whatever it was that they had built, but he couldn't just hide who he really was for all eternity just so they could have a happy and healthy life together, he couldn't do that. Besides, why did it bother her so much? he was Hades' son, not her son, and by the way Hades had told her nothing about him, it was quite obvious that he didn't intend to introduce them in the future either... uh, he wouldn't want to know how he would react when he found out that they already knew each other.

'Oh, I can see him in you,' the boy arched both eyebrows at that, perhaps waiting a little more context, though he ended up getting none. Something else had been expected, perhaps an explanation as to why she suddenly saw Hades within him, when only a few minutes ago she had flatly refused to even consider the possibility that her beloved could have children. It wasn't the first time someone told him that, of course, other people, including Gods, had confessed to seeing the Lord of the Underworld in him, in his expressions or habits or whatever little thing he might do, and he hadn't particularly minded hearing it... but coming from her, he didn't know how to feel.

"Not all gods are like that," most of them were, he admitted it. You just had to take a quick look at the always overwhelming Hermes cabin, or perhaps the Apollo cabin. Those two were always overflowing with people. Most Gods found fun or pleasure in playing with other women or men, but not all. "Fidelity?" he repeated, unable to believe what he was hearing. "I thought that Hades was engaged to Persephone, so you're not the only one he supposedly has been unfaithful to," he shrugged his shoulders again, before adding: "Besides, Hades has never been unfaithful to you" when his father had been with his mother, Zelena wasn't even in the picture. She couldn't go around claiming fidelity when it didn't even belong to her.

Now came the topic that interested him, Hades' supposed exile, banishment from which he knew nothing. "The Olympian Crystal? his father? you mean.... Kronos?" but it couldn't have been possible, they had defeated Kronos... although Zelena surely meant an event of the past. Kronos was in Tartarus and wouldn't come out of there, not while they were alive. When he heard the version he was listening to, he couldn't help but... well, feeling that none of it fit, nothing made sense inside his head, none of the words that left her lips formed logical phrases. "What?" was the first thing he said, not understanding. "He... no. Zeus stayed with the sky and air, Poseidon with the waters, and Hades with the world of the dead. Zeus divided the world with his brothers, by drawing lots, he did not banish him" it had no meaning, she... her history did not even agree with the myths.

Frankly, perhaps he would have been worried to know that zelena had broken the Olympian Crystal, if he knew what that was, but he had no idea. "Don't" simple. He wasn't going to talk about his mother to someone who had threatened to kill him a few minutes earlier. And even if he wanted to tell her some curious facts about her, something that would never ever happen, he barely remembered what she looked like, or what was she like.

Not fidelity." Zelena was hitting a wall with this boy. She groaned. "Is it so hard to understand? Just trust?" She felt like all she was doing was asking questions - one after the other after the other, not actually getting anywhere. "Persephone?" She rubbed at her forehead, trying to assuage her headache. She laughed mirthlessly. Nico was almost clinical. He clearly hadn’t inherited Dad’s charm. "Is that to make me feel better? All girls together? Fantastic. God knows where this Persephone is." Quite literally. "Besides, Hades has never been unfaithful to you." She sighed. "I hope so. I can't tell you how much I..." She took a second to compose herself. "But you're contradicting yourself," she said, after a moment. "And what would you know? You're a child." She waved her hand over Nico's scrawny frame. "He’s not going to tell you anything. And your age - I can do the maths. You can’t be older than fourteen. He told me there was only me. There has to be a reason he didn’t tell me, why he kept you out of sight. He never suggested you existed. It’s unlike him, but…" She shook her head, shrugging hopelessly. "What does that mean, Nico? You tell me." It meant she'd been so bloody desperate to have someone love her she’d never asked. But what it meant for Hades was a different matter."Why are you even interested in this?" But when she looked to the boy she saw her own confusion mirrored back at her, and despite the fact that this was the least of her worries she still frowned, pausing. "What? No. Zeus stopped his heart and banished him," she insisted. But a questioning tone was in her words. Surely he had to know this. "His heart wasn't taken, wasn't crushed. It was stopped. He said he could only feel anger. It was a curse." Zelena looked to Nico. "Can you see now? Why I assumed what I did? He didn't have a functional heart, not with feeling, with proper emotion. I'd never even heard of that before." Hades was immortal, but with his stopped heart she’d always reasoned it was more complicated. Apparently not. All she wanted really was information - and even that was denied. The witch crossed her arms. "Oh. Great. You know what? Thanks. Like father like son, keeping me in the dark! You can’t even tell me where he hid you or where your mother is." God knows when all of this happened or whether his relationship with the boy’s mother was still on the cards. What was she to make of that? He looked hurt too, she realised - like she’d stumbled on something sensitive. But she didn’t care. This boy was just driftwood. Instead her expression shifted. "But I keep blaming the wrong people. Always have." She looked to the demigod. "It's not you is it?" She still looked at him like he was pond life but shock was wearing off now. Zelena’s eyes blazed with hurt and anger. "It's Hades. He didn't say anything. He’s lied to me once before - and someone died. Back when he put on a ‘show for my benefit’…" Regina’s words tasted rancid on her tongue and she stood up. "He’s lied to me before and now he’s doing it again - and I’m always the last one to know!" For the sake of it all Zelena had tried to put that to the back of her mind, tried to find some way to rationalise it. But it was all coming back."He’s hiding things from me again, not telling me things again and now I'm some lovestruck fool - " She cut herself off and winced in pain. Her hand went to her neck, nails digging into the skin. She froze. Oh no. Her hand covered her throat, trying to block his view of what she thought lay beneath. He assumed it was hard to understand if you hadn't had a partner for a long time. The concept of trust between two people, the silent vow that was made, thus promising never to betray the trust that the other person was so blindly placing in you. He assumed Zelena meant that kind of trust. Or perhaps to the trust that enveloped communication... that kind of trust could also be applied to their present situation, because Hades had seen fit to keep her in the shadows. Her laughter, her tone of voice, her manner of acting... it had changed. She seemed to laugh for lack of options, she laughed because she didn't know how to react. "In the Underworld, probably," he replied, though he suspected that the question concerning Persephone had been rhetorical.

Her words were meaningless. But that was because Zelena didn't know the whole story. She didn't know he had been born in the forties, she didn't know his memories had been erased in the Lethe, she didn't know he had been locked up for years in the Lotus Casino, so she couldn't see how illogical she was now sounding. Hades had never been unfaithful to her, and from what he knew he had never been unfaithful to anyone, though now he would not be so sure either. Anyway, the boy kept quiet, because he was not going to tell the story of his life to the woman who, let us not forget, had threatened to kill him. It didn't sound very smart.

Nico was confused, for what she said did not fit in with what he had experienced. Zeus... no, he wouldn't do that to him, he didn't even have a reason to do it. It was true that the brothers did not get along particularly well, after all, Zeus and the other Olympians had managed to live in paradise, in Olympus, while Hades had been fortunate enough to stay with the realm of the dead, where the sun never shone. It was to assume that their relationship wouldn't be spectacular, but still, stop his heart? for what purpose? He didn't see the point. And if so, why didn't Hades ever tell him? They saw each other almost every day, and... well, they talked, but that subject had never come up. "No... I don't understand" he couldn't... He didn't understand.

The boy frowned at the witch’s whining. "Dead" he spoke, through gritted teeth, mumbling. "She's dead" and that was Zeus' fault, but it was a detail that Zelena didn't need to know. Hades was the one who had first kept her in the dark, he had only accidentally pulled the trigger. Had he not appeared in that city, she would never have known of his existence, and Hades would have continued to hide the truth. It's not that he cared too much for that last detail, because it was his father's relationship, not his own. Still, he preferred to believe that Hades had hidden his existence to protect him... everyone in that city but Zelena wanted to see him dead. Nico, of course, had also been hiding his heritage, and for the time being, it was proving to him.

The boy raised his eyebrows confused (more confused, if that was even possible) when he heard Zelena say that it was actually her boyfriend's fault entirely. "Who died?" It was none of his business, true, but perhaps if the one who had died had gone to the Underworld, he might have known them. There were quite a few people in that city who had previously been dead, and dead should go on, when all that was over, if they were lucky.

The demigod could have expected anything - from Hades suddenly appearing to Zelena throwing out some green flame from her fingertips- but... literal green to start covering her neck? Oh, it was unexpected. "Green... with envy" But... envy of what? of whom? He didn't even know if the cause of that was envy,he didn't even know if that condition was normal... He wouldn't have thought that the phrase 'green with envy' could be taken so literally.

Not here. Zelena's hand didn't move from over her skin, trying to shield her affliction from the teenage boy's prying eyes - she could feel his on her, nosy, interrogative, prying. "No no no..." She waved her other hand over it - as if being in Storybrooke would make it easier to remove - but it didn't budge. She made a small cry and her nails clawed at it in desperation, almost trying to rip it off. But it was the same as it had always had been - couldn't be washed off, couldn't be removed. She'd tried and failed countless times. Defeated, the witch glared at him, determined to hold her own against this snivelling little boy. Green with envy. "Don't you dare," she hissed. "Don't you dare." "Another woman defining her happiness relative to the love of a man." She heard her own words - mocking, now. Zelena was always independent. There had been no one to rescue her before Hades and there didn't need to be. She, she alone, had dragged herself from the gutter. But it was more what she thought she was missing out on...what had been so easily within her reach. Her sister's voice came crystal clear. "My happy ending is finally feeling at home in the world." She knew what Regina meant now. She understood, with a love of her own - that love didn't consume her - shouldn't, but it did complete her world. But that awareness just made this more painful. Envy twisted inside like a knife. Regina knew about Roland - he wasn't a secret. Why did she get everything? Why was it Zelena picking up the pieces, always ending up worse? Nico's mother, too; Persephone, also. They were stacking up, a line of enemies - cold, unpitying from the dizzying heights of their own clear-skinned, unfettered fortunes, and being with Hades in the same way only she wanted to be. And Nico himself. He didn't tell her anything, looked at her like she'd no right to be upset, like communication wasn't needed, like it didn’t matter that she loved this man and now for the second time she had to question what she knew - where he came from! How did Nico knew a different version of his past anyway? What the bloody hell did that mean? And Hades. Of course. All that time they’d been planning to destroy what the witch honestly believed to be the most dangerous magical weapon ever - now this. Zelena, finding everything out afterwards. Zelena, not knowing what to believe because he’d lied before now and for all she knew he was prepared to do it again. Zelena, the Sisterhood's representation of innocence. He wasn't cheating but to her it was all so raw that she didn't know what to think, didn't know any better. She didn't want to imagine it - she didn't think it was like Hades - but she didn't seem to have a choice. What if it was as bad as she thought? This wasn't magic, something she could read about until she could find the impossible, the unachievable, and drive it kicking and screaming into reality - something her mind could pull apart like the talent that had always been her friend when she'd had none. This was love; she'd had precious little of that. It was inexperience, fear and confusion that drove her now. Part of her anger rebounded on her for letting her own defences down. And there it was, emerald on her skin."Dead? Well then! Brilliant! That helps!" Her laughter was almost a shriek. "That doesn't stop anything, idiot! He's the bloody God of Death, not the God of - of - " She cut herself off. Her hand still covered her throat and she angled herself away from the demigod. Her breaths became slower. His question. "Two," she said, after a second. She closed her eyes. "Two people died. I wasn't fast enough." She became more forceful. "I didn't want it. I didn't want any of it to happen." Her next words couldn't make it past her tongue. But he did. She looked dully across the table at all of her herbs in jars. A thorn bush of prickly writing skittered over the nearest label. Mint. Her mouth twisted and she pushed it away. It was her turn to deny him something. "Don't. It was the worst day of my life."Wait. It had been the worst day of her life, and it was all because of that crystal. She'd forgotten about it but their plan - what would confronting Hades mean? It was a weapon no one could ever, ever have. The crystal complicated things. It was her love that meant the bloody thing had been mended in the first place; it was her responsibility. This is on me. What if their talk ended badly? I can't tell him before we get the crystal. The thought was nauseating as it was, but the thought of that crystal still existing...the thought was like a shot from the crystal itself - shooting through her - a stab of anxiety - she had to think! Zelena stood. The green splash on her throat was raw like a wound. "Let's talk about you, shall we?" Oh yes. She needed an outlet and there Nico was. "Get a little kick out of that, do you?" Her voice was sharp as she lashed out. The irony of what she had said before didn't occur to her. "Announcing yourself? Make you and your pathetic little existence feel worth something? Bet you couldn't wait to swan in here, telling all and sundry about your father like the little parasite you are." He'd outstayed his welcome. She stepped forward, desperation mixing with her old malice. "Why are you here? Why are you doing this?"ADD.: Nico Di Angelo | WORDS: 969 | NOTES: ♛ Ames

By the way she reacted, he could assume that her skin acquiring a new color was nothing new. He had never seen such a thing happen, and frankly, he couldn't hide the curiosity and surprise that pervaded his features for a brief moment. The woman looked uncomfortable, as if she didn't want to have his eyes on her figure, as if she wanted to do everything possible so that he wouldn't see her, and somehow he could understand her, understand her desire to keep her green skin away from the vision of others. It was what he had always done, after all, to want to keep his existence and powers away from the field of vision of others, for he did not want to ruin everything, again.

So the demigod chose to look away, as if he could alleviate the despair that seemed to be invading the witch. He knew how she should be feeling, so he would do his best not to make her feel any more uncomfortable than she was probably feeling. He wasn't going to comment on it either, asking her why her skin had changed color so quickly, he didn't want to stick his nose where they didn't call him, even though he was really interested in the magic she seemed to possess, magic that apparently could change her skin color without warning. Uncontrolled magic? He didn't quite understand what the reasons could be...

Unless envy was the one to unleash the magic, the color that had spread around her neck. But the question was coming back to his mind, what could she possibly be envious of? There was nothing to envy there. No one would envy him, no one would envy to be the son of Hades... perhaps she envied a person whom he did not know? a person who maintained an honest and healthy relationship without secrets standing between them? It could be, he couldn't say it for sure either, he was in the dark (ironically). Nor did he have an ardent desire to know the story of this woman, although it was true that Nico would be interested to know how she had managed to capture the heart of his father, a heart that she said had been stopped for millennia...

"I never said it would stop anything," he muttered, turning his dark gaze to her. What could his mother being dead stop, anyway? He hardly remembered her, Hades had barely spoken of her, even with the times he had asked and begged him. After some time he had stopped asking, and had received no more sharp answers coming from anyone. He nodded when he heard that Zelena had not wished the death of those two people. "What about him? Did he want those two people to die?" Nico knew the answer, or at least he expected it. Hades had surely wanted those two deaths to happen, he would not be surprised at all. He was the God of the Dead, after all. He had to honor his title.

The woman had seemed so... vulnerable and confused and anxious throughout the conversation, but suddenly everything seemed to disappear. Suddenly, she got up and started releasing venomous words, words he hadn't really been waiting for. Her laugh... sounded awful. The boy frowned, not understanding where this outburst came from. I mean, she hadn't really been thrilled to see him, and he hadn't been brimming with joy either, but he hadn't reacted in such a way. "I just wanted to talk to my father," he repeated again, for the thousandth time. "I had no desire to meet you," because he hadn't even been aware that Hades had been with someone for... for who knows how long. It didn't matter, it was none of his business. "But I see he's not here," and Nico would soon cease to be there. He had nothing more to say, it was over. He shrugged indifferently, looking around for one last time. He wasn't planning on showing up in that home anymore. "If you have any other questions, ask him yourself. I'm sure he'll be delighted to answer them" the last words were injected with sarcasm, and with something similar to a smirk, he disappeared into the shadows that had slowly accumulated around him. As soon as he left, the skeletal bird collapsed, its bones rumbling on the ground, stiffening.
