not in Kansas any more

For days Charlie poured over all the books she could find in the Men of Letters bunker that Sam and Dean were staying in. She was determined to do anything she could to help Sam, and since she couldn't do magic herself, and wasn't nearly as good in a fight as Sam and Dean, she figured the least she could do was search the library and the internet for anything that would maybe help their situation. Book after book, website after website, nothing she found seemed like it would be the thing to help. Then she stumbled across the possibility of a way to go to other magical realms. Once Charlie got over the shock of learning about other realms, she started trying to figure out how she might be able to get to one.

She knew she was close, she found a realm about Oz, which sounded a bit like some children's stories she had read as a kid, though the book painted a different picture of the realm. Of course the book was old, and not remotely up to date on the current events going on in the realm. Still, it was said to have powerful witches there, and perhaps if she could find someone, powerful enough, they might know a spell that could work against powerful dark magic.

On an evening that the boys were out on a hunt, she finally figured out how to open the portal from the Bunker. She left them a hurried note, packed a few basics into a backpack, and then left for Oz. The trip was relatively easy, it was like walking through a door. The world was so vivid though, so much brighter and more colourful than her world, or at least it seemed to be that way. Maybe it was just because everything around her was new and the thrill of being in another realm.

She walked for a couple of hours and started to realise just how big the realm was, it wasn't like walking into a mall and stumbling on a 'you are here' map. It was big and she had no idea which way to go. Eventually she came upon a small cabin that didn't look like anyone was in it, as far as she could tell, and it had some apple trees in the back yard. She was hungry, so she decided to go over and pick some.

live long and prosper bitches

So far things were far more behind schedule than Charlie had been hoping for when she first found the way to travel to this strange realm back in the Men of Letters Bunker in her realm. She was still absolutely fully one hundred percent determined to find a way to help Dean, and she could only do that if she could find something to counter powerful dark magic. So far helping out Zelena didn't seem to be going too badly for the red head, in fact in some ways she felt like she even understood Zelena, had some common ground with the powerful witch. Well, you know, besides the fact that Charlie couldn't do magic to save her life, and she wasn't green. They did both have red hair though, red heads united.

Although Charlie wasn't able to fulfil the original task that Zelena had set for her, the witch still seemed willing to help Charlie. There was a lot to be done, she knew Zelena planned to travel soon, and for now Charlie was going to travel with the witch. In some ways it was exciting, getting to go to another realm besides her own and Oz, though some seemed a bit surprised that Charlie was helping Zelena, but so far Zelena had done nothing of consequence, and in the world Charlie came from, good wasn't always whiny white and bad wasn't always obviously dark and evil. She wasn't willing to judge Zelena based on a few things she'd heard from some people around Oz, at least not until Zelena did something to Charlie in the present to show that she shouldn't be trusted. Besides Charlie wasn't stupid, yea she was so far going along with Zelena and helping the witch out, but she wasn't blind either, her guard was up. She had after all once found out she'd been working for the Leviathans who were evil incarnate and trying to take over the world.

Today was a light day, she only had a couple of things to do for Zelena and then she mostly had the afternoon for herself. She decided to go for a walk around one of the nearby villages. Many avoided her since she was known to be on good terms with Zelena, but that didn't phase Charlie, she walked around the village market, picked up something to eat and got her water bottle filled by a well. Then decided to go for a walk in the nearby forest while she ate. Eventually she found a clearing, with a log and sat down to eat her lunch.

As hard as Charlie tried to avoid the supernatural life, ever since her last job that landed her in the nest of demons planning to fatten people up so they could eat them, her life had changed profoundly. After she left Sam and Dean and got on a busy, she'd had every intention of not thinking anything more about supernatural things, magic and monsters, but the life kept finding her, and her path kept crossing with the WInchester's even when she'd tried so hard to avoid it. Charlie decided to take that all as a sign, that this life had chosen her, so upon lots of pestering Sam via the internet, they'd finally agreed to take some time to train her as a hunter. Even though Dean swore up and down that it wasn't a good idea, but it wasn't as if Charlie hadn't tried to run the other way already, and if it was going to keep finding her, then it was better she be prepared.

After helping them with a few cases, she finally decided to try some on her own. In some ways she had felt safer being with them on jobs, but on the other hand, Sam and Dean always had a way of attracting the really big bad and ugly things, maybe if she just took some cases on her own, she could avoid having to help them stop an apocalypse or fight Lucifer or whatever crazy shit they were always elbow deep in. The case she decided to investigate took her to Louisiana, Lafayette to be precise. Charlie had always wondered why in Louisiana they called areas parishes instead of counties, she always thought it sounded awfully churchy, but that was hardly anything to do with her current task.

The boys had set her up with her very own FBI faked credentials, as well as some of the basic hunting gear, which she kept in a chest in the trunk of the car she was using, since bus travel seemed a bit cumbersome as long as she had weapons to tote around. The newspaper was talking about strange large animal attacks, people being mangled beyond recognition in some cases, though they were no where's near a swamp or anywhere they'd be more likely to run into a kind of animal that could do that sort of thing even a little bit, especially the bit about whole organs being removed and missing.

She had been in town for a bit, and already checked out the morgue, so now she was headed to site of the last victim, some old home a bit outside of the town, bit secluded. She pulled up at the house and ignored the police tape, apparently the only person that had lived here was the one dead. No one was around, and the house looked old and not very well kept. Whomever had lived there seemed to have lived a rather secluded life, borderline hoarder to boot. She didn't want to stick around too much longer, she snapped pictures of the room where the attack happened, the dried blood still all over the floor and walls, looked like the site of a crazy horror film massacre. She wanted to be back at her hotel room before dark, last thing she wanted was to be caught in a creepy house like this after dark, but the more she looked around, the more she failed to notice as the sun sunk below the horizon.

Charlie was quite sure that the crazy was never ending in the town of Storybrooke, there were times it seemed it was easier to count the lulls between the magic catastrophes and threats to the town than it was to actually count the threats and curses themselves. She felt like the longest they seemed to go without something going tits up was a few months at best. On the other hand, with so much always going crazy around the town, it made it even more important to savour the times when things were going good and no one was being threatened with death or magical comas.

Lately things seemed like they were going so well it was almost too good to be true, well aside from the zombie attacks of course. On the bright sides of life, the zombie bites didn't seem to turn people into zombies, and even better, her and Willow were in a really good place. Sometimes it was almost surreal or too good to be true that for once in Charlie's life, not only had she been settled in one place for a few years now, but she was really happy and in a serious relationship.

One thing that her and her girl friend had in common, was that they were both good friends with their favourite Storybrooke pirate, Killian Jones. Charlie had decided after some rather nasty zombie attacks a couple of weeks earlier that it was high time that she and two of her most favourite people in Storybrooke had a fun night out to drink and relax. Charlie had gotten hung up grading some papers at the school, so she phoned Willow and let her know that Charlie would just meet Willow and Hook at the bar. Charlie took longer than she expected to get there, and once she did she started looking around to see if Willow and Hook had arrived yet.

Charlie had never imagined that she'd actually get to meet Willow's best friend, ok well that wasn't entirely true, Charlie had imagined it quite a few times. To be fair though, since Buffy had been presumably back in the realm that Willow and Charlie came from, and it didn't look like they'd be getting back any time soon. Charlie knew it was certainly possible Buffy could also end up here like they had, but with millions upon billions of people, what were the odds. Well apparently the odds were pretty good, since Buffy was now here. Charlie had never been nervous like this before, of course she'd also never had to meet the family or friends of someone she was dating before. Usually she never stayed around one place long enough to have a serious girlfriend let alone meet their friends and family.

The first meeting had been short, and Willow had been there as a buffer. That was all well and good, but eventually Charlie would have to hold her own with Buffy. Once school was out, Charlie packed up some papers to grade and her laptop back in her messenger bag and headed to the diner. She couldn't remember if Willow was working today, but she knew they had plans to meet up later on. For now Charlie just wanted to grab a piece of pie and get some things graded first. Once that was out of the way then she'd be able to really enjoy the weekend.

She didn't see Willow when she got to Granny's, so she ordered a pie and a shake and took her usual corner table that was available, since it had the closest outlet where she could plug her laptop in and then not worry about the battery running to low. Once she had that set up, she pushed the laptop off to the right a bit at an angle along with the papers, and started reading through some of the tests as she ate her pie and listened to music on her iPod.
