Rilian

Rilian is the only child of King Caspian of Narnia and his Queen Lilliandil and the centre of Caspian’s world. No, really, he used to take baby Rilian into council sessions with him and Lilliandil had to demand him back sometimes. As a teenager Rilian demanded his own space but they’ve always had a really strong bond and as such he’s probably well aware that his father’s never been as happy as he makes out. Sometime after he started exerting his independence his mother died from a poisonous snake bite and while out looking for said snake he met and was bewitched by the lady in the green kirtle. What followed then were years of enchantment and brainwashing as he served loyally as her black knight during the day and spent his nights bound to an enchanted chair, breaking free and returning home only just in time to see his father one last time before he died and left Rilian, newly disenchanted and somehow in charge of the underground kingdom, as King of Narnia.

But of course Caspian’s now in Storybrooke and missing his son like crazy (plus all he really remembers is that Rilian’s alive, not what on earth happened to him) and Rilian’s all on his own in Narnia and something has to be done about this, so I want Rilian to come to Storybrooke. Can be immediately after the events of the Silver Chair, could be later, no one’s really confirmed if Eustace and Jill exist at this point so they might or might not have been involved but I want a big reunion, lots of angst and the two of them trying to wade through assorted mental health problems together while saving Storybrooke or whatever Aslan’s sent them here to do.

Prunaprismia

Prunaprismia is Caspian’s aunt by marriage, being the wife of his uncle Miraz, and is either a good woman in a bad situation or schemer to rival Lady Macbeth depending on the interpretation of her. Either way she was the most powerful woman in the land for many years as wife of the lord protector and briefly as queen, the mother of a son whose birth kicked off a rather dramatic chain of events, to say the least, and who chose exile to another world over remaining in Caspian’s Narnia. Caspian’s interpretation of her choice is that she was afraid he’d harm her baby son, but they never spoke about it so her motives in that regard are open. Anyway, she left Narnia with her son and some others to settle in another world and now finds herself, along with her grown up son, in Storybrooke where they’re going to encounter her nephew Caspian again under very unexpected circumstances.

Book and movie interpretations of her are very different and to be honest I’d be happy with either as both have a lot of potential for fun and drama. Book!Prunaprismia, being the Lady Macbeth one, never liked Caspian, probably didn’t object to her husband’s habit of murdering relatives, might have raised her son to hate him and will generally do her best to pick up where Miraz left off re. making Caspian’s life worse in every way possible. Movie!Prunaprismia, being the nicer one, doesn’t seem to dislike Caspian but also doesn’t seem close to him and wasn’t aware of Miraz killing his brother, so Miraz might have intentionally kept her and Caspian apart to avoid any chance of them plotting against him. In the case of the movie!Prunaprismia the plots focus more on the two of them trying to build a family and dealing with the fact that they spent a lot of time being manipulated by someone who absolutely did not have their best interests at heat.

Drinian

Drinian is Caspian’s best friend, although in truth their relationship is more brotherly with Drinian looking out for Caspian, generally bullying him into taking care of himself and arguing with him when no one else dares to do so because of the whole king thing. The early years of their relationship were somewhat rocky – Drinian was the son of the royal falconer and a servant in the castle, having a neglected, lonely prince following him around like a lost duckling made his life infinitely more complicated – but when Caspian’s father died he really stepped up. He also got beaten to within an inch of his life by Miraz in a very successful attempt to bring Caspian to heel. After that he helped Caspian with his plans to run away to sea and either pirate or lead a rebellion from Narnian waters, wasn’t told about the sailing accident that cost Caspian the hearing in one ear on the basis that he’d freak out and cancel the whole plan and was in fact off getting the ship ready while Caspian was fleeing for his life into woods and being knocked out by dwarves. He’s not let Caspian got off without him since and threatened to tie him to the mast when he said he wanted to sail off the edge of the world that one time as he interpreted it as a suicide bid, so he’s fully aware that Caspian’s mental state is not all it could be and only got worse after his son disappeared years later. Drinian himself died a few years after Rilian vanished and it’s generally known in Narnia that his death was something of a final straw for Caspian as after that his health, both mental and physical, entered a sharp decline.

So. Caspian has come to Storybrooke instead of heading off to Aslan’s country and naturally he needs his best friend/big brother to keep him in line! How Drinian ended up in Storybrooke is very much open – whether he came straight from Narnia like Caspian did, whether there’s timeline shenanigans involved or whether he came via the lands of the dead is entirely open. I’ve envisioned him as having a wife and kids somewhere along the lines, but that’s very much open as well.

PB Michiel Huisman

Lilliandil - Reserved!

Lilliandil is the daughter of a star, intensely magical, able to turn into a star herself and raised far away from everyone at the end of the world, watching over Aslan’s table and the lords sleeping there. She and Caspian met on his quest to find said lords and after a bit of drama with a sea serpent, curses and swords the crew of the Dawn Treader rested on her father’s island while they recovered and repaired the ship, giving her and Caspian plenty of time to get acquainted, fall in love and become engaged. Alas, for all they loved each other their life together was not entirely happy – Caspian suffered with depression for all of their time together and as much as Lilliandil was a beloved queen the constraints of being a human and a queen weighed heavily on her in ways that Caspian – a human raised for kingship – couldn’t understand at all. Rilian, their son, brought them much joy but she still frequently talked of returning to the heavens as a star and died after being bitten by a poisonous snake who later turned out to be a transformed witch who bewitched her son.

As with Drinnian how exactly she ended up is Storybrooke is open – whether she came straight though at the moment of her death like Caspian, spent some time in the underworld or somehow her magic dumped her there while trying to cure her of the poison – but there could be all sorts of fun stuff to do! Plus, she and Caspian have a lot to catch up on and need to work out what they’re doing next. My interpretation of their relationship is that they got married very fast and for most of their relationship they were under a huge amount of pressure – they do love each other, but they also made each other very unhappy and right now they could agree to try and have another go at being married without all the pressures of running a country messing things up or they could agree that they want to disengage from a romantic relationship but remain friends and either one would be fine.

Glozelle

Glozelle and Caspian have something of a mixed history. Glozelle hails from a noble house and as a child was trained for a career in the army, only low and behold as soon as he got a military rank he also got a shadow in the form of a much neglected and awestruck Prince Caspian, who once tried to steal his sword despite the fact that it was bigger than him at the time. Glozelle ended up becoming his unofficial tutor in swordsmanship as Caspian would not stop following him around and like Drinian became an unofficial big brother early on, although he took to it a bit more gracefully than Drinian did. He was present during the raid in which Caspian IX was killed and Caspian suffered a potentially fatal/crippling wound to his back, was largely responsible for keeping Caspian alive during the following infection until help arrived and swore that although Caspian had taken a wound to his back he’d been running towards his father with his dagger drawn at the time. Thing was, Miraz was swearing that Caspian had been inured while running away and Caspian later supported this lie. Glozelle, an intensely honourable man, suddenly found that Caspian had effectively called him a liar and put a serious dent in his prospects of a good military career and stopped talking to the treacherous, lying boy in disgust, never knowing that Miraz had beaten Drinian half to death to get Caspian to agree to the lie. Years later he’d worked his way up to General despite the early set back and was the one Miraz sent to kill Caspian, which was one reason why he later betrayed Miraz in favour of another claimant to the throne. It’s widely assumed in Narnia that he died in the ensuing battle but the reality was that he left Narnia with Queen Punapismia and the others, something Caspian was aware of, and in the twenty or so years since then has ended up in Storybrooke.

Really, I want Glozelle around because he and Caspian are such a missed opportunity. They’ve been friends, enemies, hurt each other, preserved each other’s lives and generally could have made an awesome team if Miras hadn’t been so effective at separating them. So, they need to get back together, sort themselves out and be friends again. Also Glozelle left with Queen Prunaprismia and they’d likely have known each other in Narnia and stuck together in the new world, so I would love all the drama, angst and feels that would come with his being a sort of father figure to Caspian’s cousin and teaching him to fight as he once taught Caspian.

PB Pierfrancesco Favino

???

Through no fault of his own, this chap kicked off a whole sequence of events that led to the Narnians proving they weren’t as dead as had been believed, his father being killed, his cousin being crowned king with the approval of a lion and himself, his mother and assorted other relatives choosing to flee Narnia for an uncertain future in a world they’d never set foot in. He and Caspian have never actually met but they’ve been shaping each other’s lives in one way or another in some very fundamental ways and I think it would be fantastic fun for the two of them to meet. Maybe become friends, maybe fight, maybe not realise who the other is until they’re in way over their heads with something and it becomes an issue for some reason. Maybe Caspian expects his cousin to turn out like Miraz, maybe his cousin thinks Caspian was the villain in that tale who drove his family out to starve in the wilderness.

Anyway. This chap would have grown up away from Narnia, would presently be in his late teens/early twenties and likely spent the formative years of his life in a slightly precarious situation in terms of resources as his family walked through that portal with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Queen Lucy the Valiant

Queen Lucy the Valiant was the first of the Pevensie siblings to enter Narnia, according to the legends Caspian grew up with, and along with her siblings defeated a witch, ended a hundred years winter and ruled Narnia so well that their reign became the Golden Age. Along with her siblings she vanished some thirteen hundred years before Caspian was born and was summoned back by accident on Caspian’s part while he was fleeing for his life and being attacked by dwarfs. As Caspian understands it Lucy was the first to realise where in Narnia they were, but then he’s always thought she was the most perceptive of the bunch.

The most adorable too – Caspian began to regard her as an honorary baby sister not long after meeting her and he knows half the army felt the same way, making it rather difficult for all of them when she decided to go out with Susan to seek Aslan when the Telmarine army was bearing down on them. Not needed on the battlefield at the time Caspian followed them, saving Susan and seeing Lucy safely out of reach of the Telmarine army only for Lucy to return with an army of tree people and water spirits. After the Pevensie siblings left he missed Lucy a great deal and would love to see her again in Storybrooke.

PB Georgie Henley

NB – The Pevensie siblings as played on the board before came straight to Storybrooke after the events of Prince Caspian and I’m not sure how set in stone that is at this point. Personally I’m happy to do Dawn Treader plotlines if everyone else is happy with it too.

King Edmund the Just

Legends have it that Edmund was the second of the Pevensie siblings to enter Narnia but became ensnared by the White Witch and had to be won back by his siblings and Aslan. After that he helped defeat the White Witch, end the hundred year’s winter and ruled alongside his siblings in what would later become known as the Golden Age before disappearing along with them while hunting a white stag. Edmund was later called back to Narnia by Caspian pretty much by accident, was instrumental in defeating the White Witch when her followers plus Caspian at his lowest point following the failed raid summoned back and Peter was similarly ensnared. He later helped Caspian defeat his uncle Miraz and claim the throne of Narnia, after which he was returned to his own world.

After Edmund and his siblings left Caspian married a star’s daughter and lived a life full of sorrow and grief before dying aged 66 and finding himself in a de-aged body and in another world. Edmund is probably the sibling Caspian was least close to, just because Peter and Lucy were more outgoing and Susan… well, Susan. Despite this Caspian still very much looks on Edmund as an honorary brother and would love to see him again and get to know him better.

PB: Skander Keynes

NB As with Peter Caspian has interacted with the Edmund previously played on the board, however it was one thread set in the past and I am prepared to start afresh. As with Lucy the previous Edmund did not take part in the Dawn Treader storyline and I’m not sure how set in stone that is seeing as we’ve only got Susan left of the Pevensie siblings, but I’m happy to go either way.

High King Peter the Magnificent

High King Peter the Magnificent hailed from… well, the legends were varied, but the important thing was that Peter and his siblings arrived in Narnia some thirteen thousand years before Caspian was born and brought about an end to a hundred year winter, slew a White Witch, became champions of a godly lion and presided over the Golden Age of Narnia, which rather puts a damper on things when you realise that your reign is never going to be as good because there can only ever be one golden age, before vanishing into thin air with his siblings. Caspian, while fleeing for his life, ended up summoning them back to Narnia by accident and for a while thought, in Peter’s case, that this was a bad mistake as the two of them both tried to lead, got under each other’s feet and on each other’s nerves to the point where they were happily drawing swords on each other rather than dealing with more pressing problems.

Thankfully after that low point their relationship improved, somewhat helped along by their both nearly screwing up and summoning the White Witch back, and by the time of the final battle they were on much better terms. When they parted and Peter went back to wherever the Pevensie siblings went when they weren’t in Narnia Caspian would have even called him a friend although he’d not deny that the thought of trying to rule Narnia with High King Peter looking over his shoulder was one that made his heart sink even if the man was only trying to be helpful. Now in Storybrooke following a long life in Narnia and having his youth restored Caspian would be more than happy to see Peter again and maybe get to know him a bit better.

PB William Mosley

NB – Peter has been in play before and he and Caspian had an antagonistic relationship, however they only had one thread together so I’m prepared to start afresh.

The Princess

Princess, witch, dragon wrangler, brains of the operation, only sane man, wife and mother – this lady’s got a lot going on in her life and makes it all look effortless. Some years back a girl of her kingdom came to her and asked for her help getting her friend out of an arranged marriage, the princess’s father told her not to interfere and so she manipulated/bribed the kingdom’s resident dragon into demanding the girl as something to eat. That should have been the end of it but other girls came forwards and they ended up with a community up the mountains. The princess then found herself engaged to a man against her will and her pet dragon effectively adopted a knight in much the same way a cat adopts a human, resulting in her being sacrificed to the dragon who was subdued just in time by a noble knight, who won her hand in marriage and the captured dragon. They decamped to Snow White's kingdom and were thereafter caught up in the dark curse. Since the breaking of the curse she’s found her husband and her dragon, got her dragon a job as a firefighter and became a mother.

I would love to see her in play because she’s fearless and fearlessly bosses Sasha around or manipulates him into doing her bidding.

PB Tamzin Merchant

St George

Fair of heart, strong of arm, shiny of armour, possessor of OCD tendencies, bemused husband, even more bemused dragon owner, new father and good natured but much put upon, Sir George is the final member of the trio of princess, dragon and knight and if the stories are to be believed the hero of their little tale. In reality he trained to be a knight in his home kingdom then travelled to the princess’s kingdom after hearing of a woman-eating dragon demanding human sacrifices, got adopted by said dragon, proposed to by a princess and was given the role of hero to play in her plot to get out of an arranged marriage. Oh, and the supposedly eaten girls were fine and building a new life for themselves away from abusive families and arranged marriages. He took his new bride and their pet dragon back to his home in Snow White and Prince Charming’s kingdom and was there when the dark curse hit. He spent the twenty eight years separated from his wife and dragon but reunited with them as it broke and has recently become a new father.

The Girl

The original instigator of all the drama, the girl grew up as a servant in the princess’s palace and when her best friend was engaged to a violent drunk by her family approached the princess to have the wedding called off. The king ruled that it should go ahead and the princess called a dragon in to demand a human sacrifice and whisk her friend away to presumed death and safety. Since then the girl became something of a spymaster to the princess, listening for rumours about dragon hunting expeditions, seeking out new girls for them to save, finding ways for them to smuggle supplies up to the growing mountain community of supposedly dead girls and making contacts that could further their interests. After the princess left her best friend took over and they moved on to banditry to save people from abusive families and fund their community and she continued in her role of right hand and spymaster. She may have been caught up in the dark curse or might have come to Storybrooke at a later date but either way she and Sasha have an interesting relationship as they’re allies in furthering their princess’s goals but rivals for her attention.

PB Nell Hudson

The Bride

The daughter of a baker and the best friend of a palace servant, she was engaged to a violent drunk of a miller and ended up being eaten by a dragon. Only not really, because her best friend asked the princess to help and when the king refused to intervene the princess called in a dragon and made the bride a human sacrifice. She was the first and founding member of a mountaintop community made of girls and women rescued by the same means from similar circumstances, when the princess left them she took over and ran it as a bandit camp with her best friend at her side. She may have been caught up in the dark curse or come to Storybrooke at a later date and she and Sasha were close friends while they lived together.

Violet

Permanent Rose’s oldest sister, similarly named after a paint (not a flower, she hates people thinking that her mother named her after a mere flower) and someone Permanent Rose always had a rocky relationship with. Their mother died shortly after Permanent Rose was born and with her name Permanent Rose was immediately identifiable as her mother the artist’s daughter when in reality Permanent Rose had barely met her and Violet was the one who’d inherited all the artistic talent and ambition to be a court painter. On the other hand, it was Violet who punched Billy so hard his nose bled after he pushed Permanent Rose over in the schoolyard and Violet who picked her up and helped her bash the dust from her skirts, so they had their good moments.

When Violet was in her early teens Permanent Rose was offered a scholarship to a finishing school and like the rest Violet thought it was an amazing opportunity, only to become perplexed ad frustrated when Permanent Rose kept crying that she didn’t want to go. The next morning Permanent Rose was missing with only a fistful of rusty curls left behind and Violet joined the frantic search for her little sister, but they never found her and were left to wonder if she’d been kidnapped or met with some misfortune on the road or if even now she was out there and needing their help. Unbeknownst to Violet her little sister had run away to sea and was establishing a naval career for herself even as Violet began to paint professionally and some ten years after her sister had vanished became a court painter.

She was in the act of painting when her sister walked back into town in a naval uniform and was the first to run and greet her. Thereafter they two of them got along much better and Violet was one of the many sister who teased and encouraged Permanent Rose in her courtship of Drizella Tremmaine.

During the curse she and Permanent Rose were estranged once more although it being a small town they pretty much knew how the other was getting on as gossip would have alerted them to any major problems. As the curse broke the got in touch once more and grew closer again. These days they’re forever in and out of each other’s houses and fairly involved in each other’s lives.

PB: Rachel Skarsten

Jackrum

Most of the ship thought the skinny cabin boy who told people to call him Ishmael was an underage boy and not a little girl, but not this man. This man was the fourth lieutenant on the first ship Permanent Rose sailed on and generally took her under his wing, showing her the skills of the trade, encouraging her with tales of how even lowly cabin boys could make captains with the right training and luck and when puberty hit taking her to someone who could teach her all about being a woman while passing for a man. In other words Permanent Rose generally regards Jackrum as a sort of father figure, especially after he arranged things for her to become a midshipman and therefore on the path to being an officer, and there’s not much she wouldn’t do for him.

For his part Jackrum is known throughout the navy for knowing everything that goes on in the navy (often before the spymasters do, much to their annoyance as it means they can never catch him doing anything wrong), being a veteran of most major battles and having dirt on just about every higher up he has, case in point being that time he was court martialled and an admiral unexpectedly stepped in to call the whole thing off. He manages all of this via people like Permanent Rose who remember their old lieutenant Jackrum (now Captain Jackrum) with great fondness and will happily pass him any information that comes their way, knowing that he likes to gossip and to be kept up on the exploits of his many mentees and their superiors, while they’ll similarly come to his aid or look the other way as the situation demands.

Queequeg

To this day Permanent Rose isn’t sure if Queequeg thought they were married or knew she was actually a girl in disguise, but either way during their ill-fated voyage on the Pequod she considered Queequeg her best friend on the ship and was shattered when he, along with the others, met their end as the ship was rammed by Moby Dick and sank. They’d met some weeks before the voyage when they ended up sharing a bed at an inn and Queequeg thereafter split all his money with her while indicating that he intended to travel with her – hence her confusion as to what their relationship actually was – as they sought out a ship to go whaling on. As she understood it Queequeg was a harpooner from some sort of savage, cannibalistic island from somewhere in the south seas, hadn’t been home since he’d left and didn’t intend to go back.

After his death Permanent Rose mourned him and partly as a result of being unable to say goodbye to him made it her mission to reunite with her family. Given that she wasn’t sure where they stood when he was alive she’d be very unsure where they stood if he ever turned up in Storybrooke, what with him being dead and her being deeply in love with a young lady.

PB: Ricky Whittle

Starbuck

The long-suffering first mate of the Pequod, lone voice of reason for much of the voyage and bound by a sense of duty to his post which prevented him from shooting the captain before he got them all killed, Starbuck is a lifelong sailor who followed his father and grandfather into the whaling trade. At the time of his death he had a young family waiting for him on dry land. He never had a huge amount to do with Permanent Rose (who he’d have known as Ishmael) but they’d recognise each other if they met.

PB: Ioan Gruffudd

Captain Ahab

Somehow, and Permanent Rose still isn’t sure how, Captain Ahab had them thinking that chasing the whale that bit his leg off all over the ocean was a good idea. She’d like to say that the whole mess of the Pequod being sunk by a whale was his fault but truth be told only Starbuck tried to talk him out of it and she was only of the rowers in his boat who brought him close enough to the whale to harpoon it. Permanent Rose went on to form a sort of friendship with the whale after cutting the ropes binding the body of Captain Ahab so what with one thing and another she’d not be best pleased to see him again.

PB: Luke Roberts

Moby Dick

Pretty high on the list of friends Permanent Rose never thought she’d have is the white whale she spent a good year of her life trying to kill. Well, Ahab was determined to kill him because Moby Dick was some sort of demon in whale clothing (Starbuck maintained that you couldn’t get mad at a whale for fighting back when you were trying to kill it) and Permanent Rose got caught up in the excitement of it. When it was all over and she was floating in a coffin in the middle of the ocean and facing a slow death of exposure or faster death by shark Moy Dick surfaced nearby, tangled up in lines to the extent that he could barely move. Permanent Rose cut the ties, he made sure she stayed afloat and safe until the Rachel arrived on the scene to pick her up and for a good long while that was that.

They met again in Storybrooke under the curse when Permanent Rose, cut off from her family and loved ones, turned to the white whale she sometimes saw outside the harbour as her only friend. With memories intact their relationship became that bit stranger but she continued to regard him as a friend and someone she’d protect from harm.

Now, obviously having an actual whale walking around Storybrooke’s going to be a bit odd even by this town’s standards, so somehow – maybe Captain Ahab was right and Moby Dick was supernatural, maybe he made a deal with a sea witch, maybe he swallowed a magic potion – Moby Dick manages to get himself turned into a human and comes looking for Permanent Rose on dry land. How exactly he manages this is up to you.

Mircea Dracula

By the time Vlad was born Mircea was being hailed as the future Voivode who would save them all – intelligent, honourable, talented in the arts of diplomacy and war, looking back Vlad’s pretty sure the only reason he didn’t hate his perfect older brother was because he loved him so much. Plus most of their other siblings died so it was pretty much the two of them for quite a while and Mircea was on his own for years before Vlad came along and survived infancy. Alas, when Mircea was in his late teens/early 20s his father broke his word to the foreign power holding Vlad hostage and shortly after the nobles rebelled, killing their father and burying Mircea, who was known to be afraid of the dark, alive and face down. Vlad, in his early teens at best, swore vengeance and was further driven insane so instead of what could have been a golden age under Mircea they ended up with a reign of blood and terror under Vlad. He’s still not sorry for it.

Despite his best efforts the remains of his older brother were never found and Vlad truly believes that he died young in their home country in the land without colour. However, while being buried alive Mircea managed to fall through a portal and ended up somewhere else. My personal favourite’s Wonderland as if he fell through a stray rabbit hole, but that’s not set in stone. Unable to get home and honestly believing all his family dead (he had no reason to assume that the foreign power would keep his little brothers alive after his father betrayed them) he settled down and started to build a new life for himself. I would like it if he did have kids he gets on with (Vlad has never got along with any of his descendants save Renfield and he’s supposedly insane, so) and was, through some method, turned into a vampire as well with a very different take on it to Vlad just to up the drama even further, because these two meeting is going to be something of a mess. Vlad still adores Mircea, Mircea feels guilty for not stopping their father making a move which should have seen Vlad killed and will feel even more guilty when he realises what happened instead, but then be properly horrified at what Vlad did during his reign.

Plus, there’s Radu and Vlad’s three wives plus Lucy to contend with and whatever drama Mircea managed to get himself into before arriving in Storybrooke.

PB: Luke Evans

Radu Dracula

Vlad may have been closer to Mircea but arguably he spent far more time with his younger brother Radu, fellow hostage and later deadly rival although they had years of bickering, baiting, professing their love for one another and killing each other’s ambassadors first. Vlad’s always called Radu a coward and weak for giving into their captors and becoming their pet (rumours about Radu and assorted male courtiers abound, which Vlad’s interpreted as ongoing sexual abuse and generally doesn’t bring up), however Radu would argue that Vlad nearly killed himself fighting back and definitely came out of the experience insane – and for what? Their father had betrayed them to their deaths, their countrymen had killed what was left of their family and when Vlad did take power he drowned the country in blood as revenge. No, Radu did what he had to do to survive as an orphaned, friendless child in a world where casual cruelty was the norm and he worked his way right up to being the emperor’s favourite. Admittedly his bloodline helped here, he had the strongest claim after Vlad and the emperor wasn’t going to throw that away.

Radu was able to wrest the throne away from Vlad but knew, as everyone else did, that he would only remain the Voivode as long as the emperor backed him. As it was he reigned for at least a decade, during which he was probably married and at least tried to produce heirs before Vlad talked another foreign power into loaning him an army and unseated Radu, who faded from the history books after that. Most think it’s because he was no longer useful to an emperor with bigger dreams than a small, vicious little country and gradually lost favour at court, the truth is he had an encounter with the supernatural and couldn’t stay in his old life. Maybe like Vlad he got turned into a vampire and without a witch to make him look like he was aging he had to go after a few years, maybe like Mircea he fell through a portal and built a new life for himself elsewhere, either way the brothers haven’t met again until winding up in Storybrooke.

As with Mircea it promises to be a mess of a reunion, there’s a lot of blood both good and bad between them and a lot of accusations being flung around, but when push comes to shove Vlad never killed Radu even when he had the chance and plenty of reason to do so and Radu knows it, so there’s maybe something they can salvage.

Justina and Vlad’s marriage was technically a political union although soon after they met they realised they’d be perfect for each other and they’ve had a long, happy marriage despite the best attempts of life to make it otherwise. Like Vlad Justina hailed from the ruling classes, surviving power struggles and abuse as a child before rising to the top with a vision of a bright future and no hang-ups about needing to kill people on a large scale to make it happen. She’s been at Vlad’s side through it all, not so much supporting him as working alongside him even after he got himself turned into a vampire and later turned her after she was thrown from a bridge in an assassination attempt and suffered fatal injuries. While he was off being a hostage and trying to raise an army she was attempting to raise their children (like Vlad she’s very challenged in that department) with her long-term lover and after Vlad came back and officially died left to wander the world with him and Mirena. Most recently she’s been helping Vlad fight off an invading army for their descendant Renfield.

Like Vlad Justina has never been monogamous, for much of their living years she was involved with the bastard son of a neighbouring king and her objections to Vlad and Mirena were largely based around the issue that given their differences in rank and social standing she didn’t think Mirena could freely consent. Once Mirena proved herself a witch capable of holding her own against her warlord and his wife Justina relented and became involved with Mirena herself although she also remained involved with her male lover and was hurt when he refused to be turned and stay with them. Later she also became involved with Elizaveta, eventually seeing her introduced to their family group.

Justina and Vlad are very much on the same wavelength and think very alike so they work incredibly well together – when they join forces they will almost always get their way and when they seem to be on opposite sides don’t believe it because they are loyal to one another. That said of the three wives Justina is the one who will call Vlad to heel when he goes too far in his plans or actions and nine times out of ten he’ll listen to her. Eventually.

PB: Eva Green

Mirena

Mirena was the daughter of Vlad’s court soothsayer and with Vlad pursued a relationship across a significant class divide. Her father, under the impression that Vlad had raped her, poisoned Vlad and Mirena got her first taste of witchcraft trying to magic Vlad better and turning him into a vampire instead. After that Mirena’s magic came on in leaps and bounds, as did her relationship with Vlad’s wife Justina and Justina’s lover. When the country was invaded she went with Vlad to a neighbouring kingdom to request assistance and ended up not exactly a hostage but not exactly anything else either, acting as Vlad’s eyes, ears and partner in crime as he was officially locked up and she was more or less free to come and go. She persuaded Vlad to turn her into a vampire during their decade-long stay in the country and later started an affair and writing erotica with the lady who’d officially become his second wife. She returned with Vlad to their homeland and later, when Vlad was officially dead and not wanted in the country, left with him and Justina. They wandered the world for centuries, picked up Elizaveta along the way and more recently went to assist Renfield in saving their homeland from invading forces. While Elizaveta took care of Renfield and Vlad and Justina waged war Mirena went behind enemy lines to retrieve Renfield’s older brother, the missing crown prince.

Mirena is a powerful witch on top of being a vampire and has spent a lot of the centuries of her life hunting down old texts on magic, experimenting with new spells and generally honing her skills, something Vlad and Justina have supported her in. Of the four of them she’s the only one who hasn’t come from the ruling classes and as such she does approach life and problems differently to the others, often operating more from the shadows and behind the guise of being an absent-minded researcher while being every bit as ambitious and cunning as Vlad and Justina. She’s also got the kindest background of the lot, her father may not have understood her or accepted her decisions but he was present, he loved her and although her childhood did have elements of uncertainty regarding political factions and marching armies in it she was never abused to the same extent that Vlad and Justina were.

Although they’ve never officially married Vlad and Justina have slipped into calling Mirena their wife over the centuries with Mirena referring to Justina as her wife and Vlad as her husband. Mirena is also the wife most likely to take on Vlad in combat and win as her magic cancels out his more extensive combat training.

Elizaveta

Elizaveta was the most powerful noblewoman of her age in life and some years before her death, when she was a widow with growing children and lands she was fighting to protect on all sides, she got involved with a lady she thought was a female scribe but was actually Justina, a centuries old vampire. They got so involved that Justina introduced Elizaveta to Vlad and Mirena, her spouses, and they became part of her household for a good number of years. They were on the verge of asking Elizaveta to become a vampire and join them permanently when her enemies moved, charging her with being a serial killer and imprisoning her as they stripped her lands and properties from her and divided them between themselves. With the help of her lovers and a lot of luck regarding timing Elizaveta became a vampire and escaped to a new life.

Elizaveta is regarded by the others as the most emotionally intelligent, sensitive and stable of the bunch, both Vlad and Justina are too damaged while Mirena’s far too happy with scribbling phrases like ‘say fare thee well to thine eyebrows’ in the margins of her notes when her cauldron has yet again blown up for the others to regard her as stable. Elizaveta’s also regarded as the most motherly of the bunch (hence her being asked to help Renfield navigate the tricky problem of his mother wanting to declare him insane) and while Mirena is undeniably a master of all things magic Elizaveta far outstrips the rest of them in terms of scientific knowledge, having taken pains to educate herself in the latest discovers and contribute where she can.

Of the three wives Elizaveta is the one most likely to bicker with Vlad and make him really think his plans through before he acts, but she’s also the one he’s most likely to bring sticky problems such as the dying Lucy to. Like Mirena she’s never legally married any of them but they took up referring to her as a spouse some time back and she refers to them as her husband and wives as well.

Renfield

Born the second prince of his country and a descendant of Vlad Dracula himself, Renfield was regarded from early childhood as somehow lacking in personality, frail in mind and body and generally a distant second to his dashing, polished and charming elder brother. Brought up in tactful isolation, knowing himself to be too weak to be of any use and generally disregarded by his own family Renfield suddenly found himself regent of his country when his father’s stroke coincided with his brother being captured and held as a prisoner of war. His only option, he felt as his military commanders looked down on him and his mother questioned his ability in public, was to climb alone and unaided to a mysterious castle to plead the aid of a distant, brutal and somehow immortal ancestor of his who supposedly lived there.

Vlad promptly scared him half to death by popping up behind him and saying that he thought he’d never ask.

Things have looked up for Renfield since then. He’s found a support network in the four vampires, managed to hold his own against his mother’s political faction, got the military commanders to talk to him rather than talk down to him and even the sessions with Dr Seward are helping him see that he’s an intelligent human being who doesn’t need to second guess his every breath or hate himself as he does. When Mirena returned his older brother to them he was able to build on his success, getting his brother to treat him as something approaching an equal.

Like Vlad and the ladies he’s the victim of a stray portal and ended up in Storybrooke that way.

Lucy Westenra

Everyone loved Lucy, the ambassador’s daughter and the belle of the ball. Every social even going, come to that. Besieged with suitors, proposals and societal pressure to settle down with an eligible man and have babies as soon as possible, Lucy embarked on an affair with a dashing military man who seemed to want nothing but her company and had a thing about biting.

Thus Lucy entered into a relationship with Vlad Dracula, setting in motion a chain of events leading to her death not from a vampire bite but from a dodgy blood transfusion administered by Van Helsing after her fiancé and Dr Seward acted against her wishes and insisted on a treatment for her looking unwell.

Vlad turned Lucy into a vampire because she was dying and he felt that it was his fault. He otherwise would never have turned her (although he had fed from her) or thought of introducing her to his wives, all upset by the evets surrounding Lucy’s transformation for different reasons. Lucy herself is somewhat traumatised, especially as Van Helsing is leading a squad of her former suitors to try and kill her, and with nowhere else to go is trying to make the best of a very awkward home situation with Vlad and the others. She’s gradually getting used to being a vampire (still struggling with the blood and the hunting though) and although it’s far from home yet Storybrooke is already offering her a whole lot of options she never had as a lady in a Victorian-like society.

Awe shucks.
I was on the verge of wanting to create Liliandil. Let me know if it doesn't follow through. I'd love to roleplay her.
