No thanks to you.
Staying at the Bed and Breakfast wasn't what Tina had intended to do, but with no roof over her head nor the ability to live out of a suitcase, she was a bit strapped for options. Due to no one in Storybrooke taking the only currency she had on her, she was given a bit of a break to pay back her days spent with some of what she would owe when she started working at the library in a day. She couldn't complain, although on the inside she was a tired and cranky mess. The B&B had a big 'home' sort of feel to it, one that Tina hadn't felt since she unwillingly left her Brownstone home in New York. But she was sleeping horribly, and the uncomfortable bed and waves of thoughts on her mind had helped little.

Things had been looking a little better, at least in a smaller picture. Queenie was there, and not only there but her little sister looked to be making a bit of a name for herself there. As it were, Tina couldn't be more proud of her. Then Newt had shown up, and while being happy to see him may have been a bit selfish, she couldn't deny that it was good having him nearby again.

Their walk in the forest and tea after had been nice, it was some time to catch up in person as compared to the letters the two wrote back and forth. Still, somewhere in her excitement and Newt's distractions, she had never received that book he promised her! It wasn't until later into that night that she had curled up on her oh-so-uncomfortable bed and heaping pile of pillows to read only to realize that the one book she had been looking forward to reading wasn't in her possession!

She still read a book she found in her nightstand, although it wasn't nearly as exciting and not quite what her heart was set on. But eventually, she was able to shut the lights and pretend that she was in for a good nights rest. At least until a few hours later, or what had felt more like a few minutes later for Tina when the sunlight began to set in through the half closed window blinds of her room. " Awwh.. already? " Words had muttered when arm drapped off of one side of the bed and she pulled herself up as a sigh left her lips.

Ever the prepared one, Tina already had her clothing she was intent on wearing sitting on a nearby chair folding neatly. As for that moment, she dealt with a vintage NY Yankees t-shirt top of all things to wear to bed. It wasn't the greatest, but it was handed off to her and if no one were to see it, who really cared? At least if she was going to be self conscious about it, she was doing it on her own time. Funny enough, she really wasn't a big fan of No-Maj sports.. or even sports in the Wizarding community for that matter! A hand flipped through her messy locks of brown hair as she'd taken her change of clothes and from there started that daily process of taking a shower, attempting to work the coffee maker in her room ( miserable failure. ), making her way around a more modernized toaster for toast and jam that on record so far.. had been too burnt once and too light the other time.

By the time the daily routine had been done, it was a shock to her that it was already nearing noon and she hadn't even began to try and search Storybrooke for wherever Newt ( and his case ) may have gone next! When he left she should've just taken the case, that way if he was going to want to stay holed up in it she'd at least know where to find him! It was amazing how much she thought of after the fact. But with one last brush stroke through her hair she pulled her long gray jacket on over her pair of black dress pants and the button down powder blue shirt she was wearing, took her purse ( that was enchanted to hold damn near everything! ) and made a b-line for the door.

Maybe just maybe she was rushing a little too much to find Newt. Had Queenie been around, she'd no doubt have plenty of fun poking fun at her older sister. Tina was so concerned with leaving, that she opened the door to her room and with that quickly moved out into the corridor where she could close her door behind her. Her attention shifted to the opposite side of the hall, and in doing so her quick steps quickly came to an abrupt halt due to some force of nature that shouldn't have been there. Whatever it was it toppled over, but not before Tina too had taken a tumble on it.

Tripping over stuff hurt. Especially when the witch hadn't enough time to actually use a spell to either apparate before impact or to at least do another trick up her sleeve with some quick thinking. Given that she landed on her knee, it hurt like hell. But not nearly as badly as the toe that had been caught up in it all that was most definitely broken! Tina winced when she pulled herself up enough to sit on the ground and managed to remove her wand from her side. Figures. The one day she doesn't wear her boots and goes with sandals, and look what happens!

A few curses left the witches mouth, even as wand had been waved. " episkey! " Okay, it was healing. Still. Ow. It was only then that mocha colored eyes had gazed over to what had actually been the result of her falling on that hard wood floor and can you only imagine the surprise when it wasn't just any case, but of course, it belonged to Newt! When did he even drop it off!?

So she was happy he came to his senses in that regard, though what kind of jerk would just put a case in front of someones door and nearly kill them was a whole other question she had! Tina looked from one side of the corridor to the other when she hobbled back to her feet and scooped the case up in one faithful swoop as she used her free hand to unlock the door and step back into her room before the door slammed closed and a wand wave had the bolts locking all over.

The clasps of the case were unlocked and she quite wearily decided to just go in on her own without knocking. Or in truth, she was just too angry to really care when the top of the case was popped open and she stepped in to follow the stairway to the magic case. Once she got so far, she flipped the case closed. She could get out after, if Newt lived that long enough to let her out that was.

" NEWT! " Oh she shouted. Especially when each step that added pressure on her knee just had her wincing again. Like honestly, what was he thinking!? Tina really wanted to know!

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

It had finally dawned on him somewhere around one in the morning that he had managed to forget about giving his book to Tina. The remainder of the day had been enjoyable even if he couldn't help but feel that the muggles here didn't know a thing about a good cup of tea. Somehow in the whole goodbye and everything, he had forgotten what was rather important. Remembering she said that she was staying at the B&B, Newt wanted to make sure that she actually got the book. After getting dressed and collecting both the book and later his case, he strode off in that direction seeing no one of any interest.

The B&B's locked door had nothing on a bit of magic and after a quick check of the registry, he was soon standing outside her room. The plan, had been to slip the book under the door but for reasons unknown the blasted thing wouldn't fit and in the end, he found himself frustrated and not wanting to be on the receiving end of screaming muggles if anyone did open their door. With only one seemingly logical idea in mind, he set the case where Tina was sure to find it and went back to his warm bed. Giving the book to her in the morning would just have to do.

At morning's arrival, the usual routine began. There were creatures to feed, plants to water, things to clean up, items to get back from Niffler, odds and ends to do, the list went on. If anything the case was the only thing keeping him sane considering they were not where they were supposed to be anymore. It was nearly lunch time by the time he found himself at a decent stopping point. Getting a bowl from a cupboard he ladled himself out some soup (as he couldn't bring himself to use magic for that most times) and put the gramophone on, after discovering the soup was lava hot.

Sitting back down, he was just about to risk a second bite when the yelling of his name surpassed the gramophone's sound by ten. It didn't take an expert in voices to realise it was Tina. By her tone though something had happened. Leaving his food yet again, he headed out the door to find even the moon calves staring, wide eyed in the direction of main shed door. Then again, maybe it wasn't that bad - they always had large eyes.

"Hello, Tina." He said upon opening the door although his happy expression was quickly dropped at the sight of her's. "Tina, are you alright?" Newt asked moving across the room to help her down the remaining stairs. She was limping, after all. He thought better of remarking on how she had found the place again considering she looked to be in no joking mood. "You're injured." What was it with the two of them, were they usually this accident prone? "I have something for that." Newt added with a certain seriousness noticing a mark on her arm as well. Even if she was very cross with him, he wasn't about to let her suffer. "Come on then."

Newt led Tina outside where the moon calves still watched the proceedings from their hill, and around the right side of the shed and to a secondary one smaller than the first. Perhaps, some might remark only big enough for a few garden tools. As if it were perfectly normal to walk into such a small building, Newt trudged on. Inside the space opened to reveal his personal living space.

The large stock pot of soup, bubbled away on a wood burning stove. Another pot, in the sink, was in the process of washing itself and jars of different sizes took up nearly half the stone counter space. Hand painted, enchanted tiles, mostly of dragons, made up the kitchen's back splash. Herbs and various items hung from the ceiling on hooks, near easy reach. A small table with four chairs (only one of which got regular use if the stacks of books and papers on the other ones were anything to go by) stood just off the kitchen space.

In a far corner was a bed, a small chest of drawers, nightstand and an oil lamp arranged to give the illusion of it's own space without actual walls. Two wing backed chairs and the table in between them faced a currently cold fireplace. Four floor to ceiling bookshelves were packed full of books of various descriptions taking up much of the wall next to an enchanted window which brought light to an unfriendly - as it did appear to have teeth - looking plant.

What little remained of the wall space was taken up by paintings, pictures and the odd sketch that looked more like it had been stuck there to be dealt with at a later date. Generally the room was warm, inviting filled with the light smell of wood smoke and the aroma of spices from the boiling pot. A jovial melody filtered through the room from the gramophone that continued to play tucked in a corner.

Clearing off another chair in the dining room, he motioned. "Please." And was soon off again, grabbing a jar from the counter and spoon before returning to her. "Now this stuff smells awful." That was a great way to start any sales pitch. "But it'll work, you'll see. Just a light layer and you'll be fine." It seemed more polite to let her apply it to herself, after all. She seemed angry enough without any other mishaps. He was away again just as fast getting a second bowl. Even if she didn't want it, it was better than staring. The soup he could always put back. "Care for some lunch?" This was, what many would call, a peace offering. Hopefully it'd work.

No thanks to you.
Going inside of the case wasn't exactly something Tina was used to. It was what? Her second? Maybe third time ever doing so? So it was pretty apparent that she really didn't even know what direction she should go into when the magically altered case opened up like a whole new world to her. The limping bit didn't help, nor did being angry. There was just very little reason to take in the scenery right away with all of that going on.

When she heard him, she hadn't even had a chance to answer. He'd already been there and despite her best attempt at waving him off, she had been helped on the last of the stairs when her cheeks grew a red hue for a few seconds. If that were just out of being embarrassed she had to be helped or if she were just that angry was something to debate later! Whatever the case, she really didn't feel like she needed his help. As it were, she was so quick to rush to his aid the last time things went south with him and an owl, Tina on the other hand, was too stubborn for her own good.

She gave him a glare when he had told her to go with him. Even so, she had listened. Her knee would be fine, she just had to walk it off and the same could be said for the toe that she had at least already done one successful spell on thus far. She hadn't even noticed that she managed to hurt her arm in the tumble, but then given that the wall was aligned with hooks where pictures once held, it really didn't shock her either.

" I'm fine Newt. " Tina finally found some words to fess up when she followed and dark eyes had been looking all over to take in the sheds, the various animals that stopped to peek at their guest, and the general setting that had been just out there for her to see. It was nice, make no mistake about that. It wasn't exactly a burden to be able to go into somewhere like the case and just forget about whatever was going on outside.

The steps came to an end when he had motioned towards a chair. At first Tina was more then satisfied with just following him, but then he was so back and forth that she hadn't even been sure if it was worth attempting to keep up. " What are you doing!? " Or she could just do that! She huffed and puffed, though soon took a seat where head had been rested in her hand. It really wasn't fair to be angry with him, she doubted he planned on her tripping over his case, and a part of her had been angry that she was even stupid enough to do it.

It also didn't help she still hadn't slept well. It was easy to hide the frustration but then she really hoped that seeing Queenie and Newt again may have made a difference in how she felt. Maybe just a little longer, or maybe just a new approach at a more comfortable night at the B&B. Either way, something had to give she imagined. It was like her teenage years all over again, worrying more about others than herself. Not that it was a bad thing, Tina was always one to put someone before herself.

When he set down the jar and the spoon she eyed the object a bit reluctant to see what it was. If it smelled badly, she really wasn't going to rush to try it in worry that she'd have to take the rest of the day smelling like.. whatever it was! And he was gone again, her hand rubbed her eyes and attention moved to her foot where she had pulled the sandal she had been wearing off to let the magic work it's full effect on the black and blue toe that had taken the blunt of that suitcase and it's wrath.

What a way to start the day, right? All that frustration just boiling over. So much so, it hadn't even clicked to her right away that this was where Newt actually lived. It wasn't only some magic field or some moonlit hill with the moon calves. Instead it was like a home within it all with all the furnishings. " Wow " Words had been muttered softly under her breath. It was funny, the feeling, the warmth, all of it really hit her harder there than it had back at the B&B where she felt that whole home connection. No, this was a lot stronger, like she should've been there. Not that it made any sense.

" You aren't going to drop it on me are you? I already tripped over your case at my door. " Okay that was mean, but then so was his attempt at a peace offering. But then again. even in her little ball of rage mode, Tina had been easy to get through to. " And yes, I'll have some. " It had to be better than burnt toast.

Food's the way to anyone's heart.

Newt hardly needed any help in deciphering that Tina was upset - with him or something else. That didn't stop him from helping her down the stairs and to his personal quarters. It was hardly the first time that he had upset someone or dealt with someone who was. Maybe it was all that time with dragons but he didn't usually let it get to him. Not that he was some emotionless robot, far from it, certain people could and had gotten under his skin (*cough* Leta *cough*) but for the most part he tried to remain calm. There was also that fact he did owe Tina in some regards. Sure she had made his trip to New York damn difficult but there had been a moment where he was nearly positive that Credence was ready to kill the lot of them and she had put a stop to that. For that he was grateful. So her sharp looks and tone had fallen on a selectively deaf ear - mostly.

However, he found a certain amount of disappointment in her reluctance to try the remedy he had set before her. Perhaps he had been a bit too honest in telling her that it smelled the way it did but she wouldn't have failed to notice. Newt blinked several times at her continuing remarks, feeling more and more awkward for standing there with a bowl in one hand and a spoon in the other. He very nearly went to put the soup back into the pot when Tina said she'd try it. Having no intention of pouring the soup over her (as it was really hot and then she'd really be angry because that smelly remedy was among the best things he had for burns) he set the bowl and spoon down in front of her. "It's a bit hot." The faintest of smiles coming to his lips at the fact she had conceded to that as he went to get her a cloth napkin out of another drawer and adding that to the table as well.

He took his chair and finally spoke. "I'm sorry you tripped over my case. That hadn't been my intention." Newt also hadn't meant to work as long as he had in the case either. Even with the enchanted ceiling, it was too easy to lose the day inside, what was, his own world. Now able to enjoy a second spoonful of soup, it didn't seem bad. Although it was hard to know what Tina thought of it. Not everyone liked soup and his modification of an Indian curry dish was perhaps not something she would even care for.

Personally, he enjoyed the blend of different dishes and cultures as much as he liked documenting the magical creatures that lived in those regions. Often the muggles in those parts were all too happy to share their knowledge after he was found not to have desires to convert or change them as others had before him. The small amounts of time he got to spend with various muggles had been educational, along with the simple fact that not all wizards were pleasant ones.

"That would help." Newt pointed his spoon at the remedy jar he didn't care to take off the table yet. "It's a muggle remedy from Indo-China." Maybe he was pushing it, trying to sell the idea but it did work. The muggles certainly came up with a winner with that combination, it worked on everything from rug burn to mild dragon related burns. He had tried it for both. Of course, neither of those times did he have to worry about offending someone with the odor. He had been called mentally unstable by a few wizards in his travels, most didn't see the need for documenting creatures. Yet on the same coin some had no problem paying to stare at chain and caged creatures or paying to own one. The black market was full of all sorts to those willing to shill out the coin. Each and every one made him sick.

Newt paused, spoon halfway to his mouth before he set it down again. "Don't get too close to the Diricawl if you use it. They always try to eat it." Which it was perfectly safe for them to eat but somehow he doubted that Tina liked the idea of a flock of plump birds trying to peck at what was already in pain. Of course, that was one thing he learned the hard way after ending up at the wrong end of a firecrab. That had rather hurt. He went back to his soup. Even if Tina had ended up there because of his case and was angry with him, it sure was nice having a dining companion. Not that he cared to tell her that. Hell, he didn't even want to admit it to himself!

No thanks to you.
" Is that a fanged geranium there? " The plant with teeth hadn't gone without being seen. Although, it'd been a long time since she actually saw one. That plant in particular was one that was about a first or second year lesson in Ilvermorny, and after passing the course, it became just another plant within the greenhouses when that Thunderbird had moved from one plant lesson to another through out her seven year stay.

It was basic talk though between bites of soup, or the attempt to really eat it due to it being scolding hot still. Which was fine, Tina could handle hot soup over having to deal with it being luke warm or even worse, ice cold. her spoon sat for a moment just a few inches from her mouth when she brought up her question towards the plant that had been just sitting there, staring at her despite not having eyes. Or at least, Tina felt that way.

" This is really delicious. " She couldn't really pinpoint that it was curry from her own lack of experiences around the world, but her and Queenie both had a share of cooking know-how between the two sisters so she was always more than willing to try something new. Although, she wouldn't deny that Queenie was still the far better cook than she was. Her sister liked to experiment with recipes, and while Tina too liked it, she often didn't really have the time with working long hours and coming home to help set the table and to get the more minor portion of house chores taken care of before bed. " I like that it's spicy but it's not spicy enough to be uncomfortable.. " Sometimes food with a kick of spice could easily be ruined, there was no desire to eating something that simply tasted ' like hot' not when there were other flavors that should have mattered.

Her upset seemed to be dulling, something that was usual with the Auror as she often got mad quickly but then quickly calmed down all at the same time. Between bites of soup her eyes had scoured the surroundings a bit more. This time she could take in just how lovely it was within that own little world of his, given that at this point she wasn't just fresh off a near death experience! But the apology, or something like that from him had been a little more to help in pushing that wrath of a fiery thunderbird back a bit. " I'm glad you brought it to the bed and breakfast. You and the case are a lot safer if I can keep an eye on it too. Besides, I should have been more careful. " She still didn't know everyone in Storybrooke, and from an Auror standpoint it also meant that she didn't quite trust them. Someone had brought them there through portals, and that someone could easily get the case if he weren't careful.

Sure she really had no reasoning to say 'why' someone would do such a thing, but that hadn't mattered. Rather, Tina was simply putting the beasts and of course Newt's safety first and foremost. Maybe she couldn't be an Auror there, but she was one where she belonged and it hadn't meant that her job in protecting witches and wizards was forgotten.

" But you said it smells! " wide-eyed and all. Tina's voice softened despite the burst of breath that came out with her words. He was a smart man, nobody wanted to use something that smelled if they didn't have to! And also, she certainly didn't want a Diricrawl eating it off her toe either. No thanks! Still, with another spoonful of soup and a sigh, the spoon was gently slipped back into the bowl.

" Okay.. but you better keep the Diricrawl away. " She gently pushed her bowl back along the table to prevent any spilling or contact with... that stuff. Then, the jar and spoon were pushed over and she turned halfway in her chair so that she could manage to use as little as possible without having to make direct hand contact to it and a mess at the same time. It was still frustrating and it still stunk, but at least she could feel the effect of it doing something at least on the bone mended already by magic. Now it was just to kill the remaining pain and she would be good to go again. Her arm wasn't bad enough to really be concerned with, neither had been her knee that took the blunt force of the fall on the wooden floor. That was all simple stuff, she was a young witch, she'd bounce back easy enough.

A little of the stuff did manage to find her way to her finger, which was almost immediately wiped on a nearby rag in an attempt to save herself from hopefully not having the potential stink of the herbal remedy remaining on her more than it should be. " Are you happy now? " A hint of sacasm was clear in her tone, though Tina had also smiled when words had finished. " Once we've finished, can you show me around again? " The last time she was there, again, after a near death experience. There was a tour, although Tina really couldn't recall all of it as her mind had been in a thousand other places at once.

" I mean, unless you don't want to. I can leave if you would like? " This was his case, his fantastic beasts, who was she to really interrupt? She already jumped right into his lunch time and whatever else he had been working on! " I also came because I forgot my book. I went back to my room last night ready to read it and realized all along that it hadn't been given to me. " Tina laughed, and while she could blame it on Newt. It was just as much her own fault too.

Food's the way to anyone's heart.

"It is." Newt found himself impressed. Most people didn't keep up on magical plants nor did most want to keep a plant that had far more bite than bark. "It was a birthday present. Just a little seedling then." Over the last decade the plant had gotten considerably larger than that tiny little plant it used to be. Thankfully they were slow growing considering the massive size of the mother plant he had gotten the seedling from what he was going to do when the plant reached that size, he didn't really know. Looking back, he had to admit that it did seem strange that someone, anyone had thought that he'd like such a plant. Though it did have nice colour and as long as he kept it fed regularly it didn't tear up the books within reach. "You have an interest in herbology?" His curiosity could not be denied.

Regardless of her interests, at least Tina bore no ill will toward the soup even if she had given him a hard time about it. Of course, there was also that idea that she was just that hungry as well. That, he found, was the easiest way to deal with something that wasn't the best tasting. Yes, there had been some things that had been too adventurous even for his stomach. "I'm glad you like it." His eyes lingered on her a second or two longer than usual before flicking away. "It's not supposed to be a soup but that's easier for lunchtime." After all, you could enchant a spoon to stir but it didn't have the needed intelligence to turn something down when it was about to burn.

Newt noted the slight lift in Tina's mood, she no longer held that annoyed expression. Apparently very nearly everything could be solved with soup and an apology - not exactly true but at the moment he was taking the lightness of the thought. However, he both could and could not understand the obsession that Tina had over his case. Alright, maybe it was because of the whole mess they got into last time the case had been in her line of sight. This time, though, he was careful and thankfully it didn't appear that anyone even carried cases anymore. Least not ones that looked like his so a mistake was so much less likely.

Whatever her reasoning though, he accepted it. It seemed silly not to. The last thing he wanted was another argument and maybe it didn't hurt to have a second pair of eyes on it. Not with Niffler's obsession with the promise of anything remotely shiny. So far he had one escape and two attempted but that was something that Tina really didn't need to know. Even better no one even seemed to notice last time - though the items Niffler had picked up were strange it itself. There certainly were far more shiny things than there used to be and some were downright weird looking. "If you think it wise." He kept the rest of his thoughts to himself.

"I will do my best." Although he wasn't about to tell her how hard that was. No one really had lived until trying to catch a Diricrawl, let alone a small flock. Newt still didn't understand the reluctance over the likes of a little bit of muggle medicine. Although if the hospital in town was anything to go by - he had walked past the place once - what muggles thought of as medicine certainly wasn't what it used to be. However, he was pleased when she finally conceded to at least giving it a try. The smirk on his face was hard to miss as he couldn't help but watch her reaction and attempts to use as little as possible. The smell was beyond description; it wasn't pleasant he could easily state but the smell could only be remarked as better than sulfur but worse than a moldy plant material.

He nodded, "Very." Even if she hadn't wanted to try it originally, it would help. She would see. At least Tina Goldstein wasn't the type to hold to her ridged ideas just to prove herself to be right. Some people were like that and that spelled trouble. Newt was content to finish up the last remains of his soup despite the slight odor. Odds were he had gotten used to it a little more than most people. If anything he was more disappointed in the fact that he had forgotten to set the bread out than the smell!

He did look at Tina at her next question. It had been one that he hadn't expected and the look on his face was enough to show that. "If you like." Honestly, no one really had showed much interest in his work before aside from the publishers wanting the book written in the first place. The book! It seemed somehow or another the two of them were on the same wavelength at least for that. Newt nodded, swallowed the last dregs of soup, wiped his face with his napkin and got to his feet. "Yes, yes. That was why I came to the B&B." For some reason or another it was so easy to forget about the book when he was around her. He wasn't sure why.

Newt retrieved the book from across the across the room and handed it to her. All nicely wrapped in a brown paper. He had wanted to make sure it stayed nice. At least that was one promise he had managed to keep. Not really wanting to feel like an augurey and staring at her, he took the chance to collect the bowls and added them to the sink which had moved on to the plates. The remedy jar too found it's way back to it's proper place, along with the napkins for later washing. It was only then that he sat back down at the table and asked the one question he couldn't help but wonder: "Does it meet your expectations?"

No thanks to you.
" I thought so! The last time I saw a fanged geranium was in the greenhouse at Ilvermorny. We had a project to raise one. My seedling was the best in the class. " A little bit of bragging, but hey. Tina had let a wide smile race across her lips when she thought back to how fun it was. She never had to deal with it biting her, she took plenty care of it so that it wouldn't do such a thing. Unlike the other children in her class, most hadn't been so lucky and often found themselves with the sharp teeth of their herbology project chomping at their robes or their fingers. Her seedling did grow though, a bit too big that she couldn't bring him home. But, it had a home in the greenhouse with the Professor so she knew it was in good enough hands. While her attention had been on her lunch and speaking with Newt, there was no denying she was going to visit the plant before she had to head back to her room.

Maybe it wasn't as exciting as taking care of creatures like him, but Porpentina did have a bit of love for herbology. It always held a special place to her, even among the many other favorite classes she was able to attend. " It was one of my favorite courses, yes. " She said, that smile had lightened but lingered when she looked away and back to the plant. It was keeping to itself, and she could tell right from where she sat that it was well taken care of. " I spent a lot of my time at the greenhouses, I could take care of every plant there without a problem. " The soup was good, in fact she was nearly finished with it when she had set the spoon down because the witch had found herself getting full.

" Thanks for sharing it with me. " It wasn't a planned lunch, but it was a welcomed one just the same. It was even nicer to have spent the time with someone as opposed to sitting in a diner surrounded by faces that she didn't recognize. Wait. It wasn't supposed to be a soup? What was it supposed to be then? Figures he'd say something like that after she ate it! She had a temporary moment of panic when she wondered exactly what it was meant to be, but then, in true nature. She thankfully hadn't even made eye contact with him for more of a mili second for him to have taken notice more than likely! It wasn't like he was trying to poison her, so no harm done.

Well, she did think it was wise to keep the case nearby, but then she couldn't help but give reasoning. " I just want it to be kept safe, and to keep you safe. That's all, Newt. it seems harmless here but I really don't want to let my guard down. " And given that Grindelwald was posing all along right under the noses of the MACUSA She had some right to be a little bit distrusting of others for awhile! " And I'd hate to have to bring you in again. " She couldn't help but tease him. Hell, the two had already met on a crash course of MACUSA vs. Ministry rules. What next? Having to try and take him in over Niffler stealing from the Storybrooke bank? No. She'd much rather avoid all of that!

" I am so confused here. The No-Maj's don't seem to care about magic, The rules don't apply. " She wasn't going to lie, it felt nice just being able to draw her wand for as simple as summoning a book from across the library, or even apparating from the diner to the beach for a walk on the sand. If it hadn't been a curse, it could have easily been a wizard community that was free of the No-Maj rules.

Her lousy mood had faded, as the smile that came and went was evidence to when he mentioned his satisfaction in trying that moldy-gross smelling remedy to her injured toe. No it didn't hurt, it did help, even if it smelled terrible. Although, Tina was convinced that a hot shower could easily fix that when she went back to her room. When she brought up that second time tour, she worried at first that she may have struck a nerve. It was almost always something special when Newt actually looked her in the eyes, and for that it had been something that made Tina unintentionally chuckle with her smile resurfacing once more. " I would, it isn't anything I've ever been able to see before. " Even she could maintain eye contact, although it may have been only as long as his if not a smidge shorter.

The book though, one of the biggest reasons she had shown up there. She still couldn't believe she had somehow left without getting it from him the day before and now she nearly forgot all over again because she was caught up in just enjoying a nice casual lunch with him instead! " I can't believe I forgot, I've been excited for my copy since you told me you would bring me it. " One part for the book, and admittedly, one part to see him again. There was no way Tina could play stupid about that. She just happened to like him being around. That was all.

When the wrapped book was at last in her hand she had actually stood. Unlike how he had planned to clean up everything, Tina had actually freed her wand in order to make some of the last dishes float towards him so that he could take them. After so long of cleaning up with Queenie, did he really think he'd have to do it himself? A part of her just couldn't sit and let someone else do things, not when she was a capable enough witch to help. Although, things like the jar of smelly goo and the like, that she couldn't help with, and that was when she took her seat again as the brown paper was carefully removed from the book so that she could look at the copy itself within her hand.

" Fantastic Beasts and where to find them! " that wasn't the first time that Porpentina had proclaimed that name, though it felt a little bit more significant with it there in her hand. " I like the title, it grabs your attention. A good book can't be good with a title so drab that you don't even want to give it a second glance. " He was reader too though, so no doubt he had known that.

Her expectations though? Well, he was a bit ahead of himself. The book was held to her chest for a second before she had looked to him with that ever occasional direct stare with big brown eyes. " I have to read it first, but I bet it'll be perfect. " And she meant it. He already was an amazing person, to see even a little bit of the things he had seen? She could only imagine.

" I'll have you know that if I have questions I'm bringing them all to you. I know the author, so I will make full use of it. " She laughed softly with her words, though the book was kept close to her as to not lose it in case she did really get to take that walk around. After all, the last thing she needed was that Diricrawl attacking her foot and her book at the same time!

Food's the way to anyone's heart.

"Nothing wrong with being first in the class." Newt replied, whether she thought she was bragging or not, he found himself more impressed than anything. Part of him hadn't expected a love of magical plants to be hidden among that auror exterior. His error, clearly. His words also were true. While he had managed to get his assignments done on time, only his care of magical creatures class seemed to rank him as a strong student. Which certainly hadn't hindered him in life. Even if there had been times that his mother had pressed him to focus on a different career path.

He continued. "The second years, when I was in my sixth, had a similar project." Which perhaps made the seeding he had been gifted something of a leftover but considering the hell that made up the months before and the months after his birthday, the gift had been a welcome distraction. No one had entirely stuck by him through that mess. In fact, he had spent so much time either in a greenhouse or with the hippogriff herd, every member of staff knew where to find him with very little effort. Thankfully, though, that was in the past. Aside from briefly being accused of treason, he had kept out of trouble. "You're welcome to help me take care of it, if you like." The words tumbled out of his mouth faster than normal. He just wasn't used to people actually wanting to help. Aside from Jacob - and for a muggle he took to the creatures rather well - there had been no one else.

Newt was nearly positive that nothing in magical plants that he had was enough to challenge Tina's underlying abilities in herbology but he wasn't about to turn away the extra help if she so accepted. In fact, the fanged geranium was the most challenging plant he had. The rest bordered on the mundane, simply there as antidotes for poisons and venom, and a few still were simple fodder for the creatures he kept. It was hardly on the same level as the greenhouses of Hogwarts or Ilvermorny. Then again, he was hardly a teacher of such things, just a plain wizard with a case of creatures.

Nodding, Newt answered a: "It was nothing." Though the silence that followed, couldn't help but make him wonder if he was again being too honest. Considering Tina did have a limited amount of experience in cultures the last thing he really wanted to do was terrorize her because she wasn't quite up to the adventurous undertaking that was culture-based food. Even worse, when he modified it to suit what he needed. Although at least, he didn't get an accusation of trying to poison her. Now that would be something silly considering he was eating the exact same thing. More than likely though, it had to just be the auror in her.

Saying that he wasn't touched by Tina's concern was something of a lie. Although, Newt couldn't help but figure that she also didn't want a repeat of their last adventure together. That had bordered on the catastrophic, however, without Niffler's bank heist, it may have taken MACUSA an age, if ever, to discover exactly where Grindelwald was. Indeed, an accidental feather in his cap, as the saying went. "Yes, I wouldn't want to risk the welfare of my creatures." He also did care about the town but if respected none of them really were all that dangerous. Niffler seemed the worst with his near constant stealing. Her little joke did get the smallest of smirks on his face. However, if they were back in New York, he had no doubt that Tina would do just that if something did happen again.

Newt was equally confused by the muggles lack of fear of magic. However, he hadn't been able to openly do magic just like that even with the number of strange people he'd seen with their own form of magic. That was one lesson he didn't want to ever forget. He had even gone as far as a memory charm on one poor soul who had gotten a little too good of a look at Niffler. Well, also shaking out various things, some of which were valuable and expensive, also looked a bit strange and the last thing he needed was getting accused of a crime that he hadn't committed and it's not like it really bothered the old man that much. "Not something I can get used to." Understatement of the year.

He was excited for her to see his book. After all those months and then not even thinking he was going to get the chance to give it to her, things had finally turned around. Newt had been halfway to collecting the bowls at Tina's addition of magical help. Sure that made things faster but he had no problem doing things by hand either. He did try to give her time before popping back to ask her the one question that had been on his mind. How she was supposed to form an opinion on his work that quickly was beyond anything. However, it was not a question he was keen to let go unanswered. Not when he really expected the book to sell little more than a few copies. As much as he wanted to educate his fellow wizards, there were those who seemed quite happy being uneducated.

"It seemed like a fitting title." The idea had rather come from her, it wasn't what he originally had in mind but after that four days on the ship back to England, he rather found that he liked the name. The way it sounded and everything. Surprisingly even his publisher had gone for it. From that point on it seemed to just go from there. Newt did feel a little bit silly asking her before she had managed little more than opening the thing. A smile lingered on his face at her elements of praise. Even if it did only sell a few copies, at least someone liked it. "Of course, I should give you a chance to read it first." Or you know get past the first page or something.

That smile still lingered at Tina's light heartened remark. "I'd be glad to." After all, this idea of someone actually caring about his work was a new feeling. Although everything felt like a new idea here. The whole place was weird. Only in his case did things seem normal. Outside it, was a world filled with weird things and people that made little sense at all. It was a sense of madness but at least, he wasn't alone now.

Happy that he finally made good on his word, Newt rose from his chair again. "Are you well enough for that tour?" It was a serious question considering the damage he had managed to inflict on her with a simple placement of case even if he rather had she'd notice it before falling over it. Live and learn anyway.

I want a unicorn.
" It wasn't easy but it was well worth it. " She enjoyed excelling through school, especially when it was something she knew her parents would have been proud of had they survived. She imagined Newt likely had been in the same spot, he just seemed to be the brainy sort too. Even if he may have not been doing it to really impress anyone? That much she hadn't known.

She was thrilled to hear that he was willing to let her help with his plant. Sure the plant looked well taken care of, but by the time she helped it along? It'd be wrapped around their fingers! Most often a good cared for fanged geranium appreciated it's owners, and she learned that from ilvermorny when a couple Wampus wizards had wanted to tease her, only to find the jaws of her plant latching on to the bigger ones arm until he was screaming like a little girl. Tina was amused by it though, karma always came back to get someone.. even in the wizarding world it'd seem. " I would really like that, I can help with all the plants if you want me too. " Maybe it was just an excuse to go there more, maybe not. He'd let her back in there again, right?

Porpentina was satisfied that he seemed willing to work with her as far as keeping his case somewhere safe. It was just like him to put his creatures above his own safety when it came to keeping them safe, but then it hadn't really mattered. In the end, both would have mattered to Tina should some trouble arise. Every so often her glance landed on him, though not even two seconds later it was elsewhere to a sound further away from one of the beasts within that case to even something as simple as her just looking to her feet or the fanged geranium once more. As far as sharing lunch with him went and it ' being nothing ' Tina had smirked. Maybe it was nothing, but she appreciated it none the less.

The book had been in her hand still, a fingertip occasionally brushing along the cover as she looked at the title once more when he mentioned it. She couldn't quite say where the idea had come from, although the title of it had been one that spontaneously popped into her head and just seemed like a perfect fit. It was exciting to her that both he and the publishers had thought so too. " Yes. Yes it did. " She had said, her cheeks growing warm when she glanced down for a moment in the hopes that her brown hair may have concealed how pink they had gotten.

She flipped quickly through the book and came upon one sketch and description that she knew all too well... well sort of. " Is this a unicorn? Have YOU seen a unicorn?! " It was just dumb luck. She fully planned to read that entire book that night in her room, but it just so happened that it was that one page that had been where her finger had landed. " Oh no wonder, they're not native to the United States. " Just Northern Europe. A sigh slipped through her lips when she may have just been a little more disappointed than she even expected to be. Ah well. They had some strange creatures in the States too, all of which she hoped may have been included in the book.

His eagerness for her to read it though had prevented her from putting it into her purse. Instead, it was held in one hand when she stood and gave a little extra pressure to her foot with the injured toe. It still stung a little but nothing to really stop her. " I'll be fine. " Every so often mocha eyes accidentally caught his own, and that was one of those instances when thankfully she'd managed to hold her smile without doing something stupid.

" I'm going to keep this on me, I can see them in person and on the pages. " It seemed like a good idea. Although Tina was a bit willing to get it going, so much so that she had actually taken a light hold of his arm to pull him along softly. She hadn't even known where to start but then that was where he came in anyway, it was his little world so to speak. Tina was just fortunate to be a part of it for a little bit.

Moonlighting as a tour guide

"Yes, I have." Newt answered with a nod though with considerably less gusto than the question asked. It wasn't surprising, her reaction. Even in the wizarding world there was something just beautiful about a unicorn. Even muggles had managed to be enraptured by the creature. "I studied several herds. They're quite timid. Difficult to track down." Not entirely true for every unicorn but many of them seemed to have a healthy fear of humans and with good reason. "I'm admittedly surprised that they've never migrated to other places." And he was quite sure that the only reason that they weren't found on other continents was down to the fact that they were next to impossible to traffic. One saving grace for them. "Germany was home to a particularly large population until the war." While he hadn't been there personally, there had been talk and the odd bit of paperwork that filtered down through his department at the Ministry once he had returned from the Ukraine. "Most were relocated in the end."

Maybe he had gotten just a little long-winded but that hadn't occurred to him until after he had finally stopped talking. That was the danger of talking about one's work, it was very possible to become a bore. At least, the tour was a mild distraction. Newt was more than happy to show her around even if the case seemed a little empty at times, without Frank. On a subconscious level, he was quite happy to help Tina along. Almost like a natural reaction, although considering the hoops he had jumped through - and laws he had broken - to keep his creatures safe, and getting them safe as well. India and Africa had pushed him into the murky waters of wizarding markets. At least he could proudly say he had taken a good piece of that illegal income from a few of them.

Once outside, Newt gave a look around trying to decide where to start. With the mooncalves still on their hill watching everything, they seemed as good a place as any. Helping Tina up the few stairs - as he never designed it to consider broken toes or anything like that - he released her once the ground flattened out. "Mooncalves." With how common they were, it was just possible she knew what they were but it was rude to assume.

"I found them in Cornwall. They were terrorizing a farmer." Actually that was a bit of an understatement considering the sheer number of fields they had danced in. The whole place was buzzing with rumours and the odd talk about aliens - where muggles got those silly ideas he didn't know - mostly kids were to blame. Worse was the fact that several villagers had even spotted the creatures. "I collected them before the Ministry was called in." Mooncalves, unlike unicorns, weren't normally relocated. It was better for them if he took matters into his own hands on that one and really, all he did was skip out on the paperwork. "They're a little too friendly."

With their large eyes, the mooncalves watched their visitors' every move. "And a bit too keen on food." How they had gotten that way, he wasn't really sure. Part of him couldn't help but wonder if there wasn't a muggle or wizarding child who had taken to feeding the creatures. Adults tended to know better. "But their dances are a sight to see." Unless you're the farmer who's field their dancing in.

While there were so many other creatures to look at, Newt didn't care to rush Tina through them. It wasn't like things were back in the real world. If anything this was something of a great escape for him and her. Who knew a case full of creatures was normal compared to this muggle town stuffed with different magic and weird things. "Where to from here?" He asked. After all, he didn't see any harm in letting her pick. They'd get through it all just the same.

I want a unicorn.
She couldn't imagine a herd of those beautiful creatures being caught up in a war. Although she found it surprising that they would have been considered a timid creature too. At least for Porpentina, she just pictured it as galloping through the forest with little to no worries. She was wrong, by a lot. " Good thing they were relocated, those poor creatures. " Relocated was better than harmed, that much was true.

" Maybe I'll find one someday. " Forever ambitious, she'd at least try one day to see if she had any luck seeing a creature so few have ever seen. It was more or less nice to know that they truly did exist. Like dragons! And while she had no experience with dragons, she really wasn't about to try and push that suggestion of seeing one. They had a nasty reputation after all. And as far as the larger sized creatures went, she was fine with just having seen Frank the Thunderbird. A beautiful creature of course. " That's all interesting about them. "

The name was a little funny, but those little creatures she had seen the last time she was there and was more than willing to get to spend a bit extra time with them the second time around. She really hadn't needed the help making her way to the hill, though for the sake of letting him be nice, she just went along with it anyway.

" They're adorable! " She couldn't help it, they were cute. Their big blue eyes and blackish-gray bodies with stubby little legs. How could you not like them!? And of course, all the eyes had been on them as the seemingly countless herd of them came rushing over to crowd around them.

Sure they had little teeth, though Tina had taken a chance by putting her hand above one gently before it let her give it a gentle pat. " Terrorizing a farmer? I doubt that. " She didn't doubt that it may have been different in the farmer's case, but that didn't quite matter either. " They can be too friendly here, I'm not going to hurt them. "

Of course they wanted food. So when she had taken a second to look to Newt it was that convenient moment that one of the little buggers had tried to bump her. " Oh! Speaking of hungry, I think this little one is? " Overfeed? Who did that? Given that it was only him, he couldn't go blaming anyone else! She'd have to keep an eye out on the dancing.

Where to next? Anywhere. She really couldn't just name off something as easily as he may have thought. " What about.. the bowtruckles? " She had seen the Occamy before, those creatures were one that Tina got the most view of the last time she was there and of course she'd see them again. For now though, she opted to go with the creature that was the furthest away, or so she had thought.

She'd already seen Pickett so many times before, but she had been aware of more there that she hadn't seen. " Unless there's something else. " But she could give him some option too, since he was moonlighting as a tour guide and all.

Moonlighting as a tour guide

Had they been anywhere else - back in a world that made sense - Newt would have offered to find her just such a unicorn. However, the world they were in now was different, strange and for all he knew there were no unicorns here. Seeing a few smaller species of magical creatures was hardly the same thing as a horse with a horn. A real one anyway. So he kept his mouth shut this time but made a mental note to see if they were here. If one, like him, had fallen into the trap of this madness, maybe he could surprise her. Do something nice. It seemed so often that he felt like she needed cheering up, if but a little.

For the time being there were the mooncalves and they always seemed to be comical enough to make anyone feel better. Perhaps it was just the way they were built and the funny way they danced on the full moon but they certainly had an ability to make him feel a bit better too. Newt smiled, he wasn't quite sure adorable was the right word but with his personal ability to see almost every single creature in some positive light, it was just so possible that he held a level of bias on everything.

As the little beggars bounded down the hill to half circle them, Newt kept a watchful eye. They weren't dangerous by any means but their feet didn't feel all that great when they made contact with your foot. He petted a few of them but didn't offer food despite their looks like they were just these half starved little creatures. "Alright, alright. That's enough now." He spoke as they were getting a bit pushy. Didn't need Tina even more bruised than she already was. After all, she was finally calming down. "You've had enough," he continued to speak to the mooncalves, "Don't need you rolling around because you're overweight." That would more than likely make them moon balls then. However, his words seemed to have little effect on the herd and their big eyes. Beggars to the last.

With her selection made, Newt nodded and helped her along once again, while the mooncalves looked on - a look of disappointment on their little faces. No matter how they acted they were hardly hungry! Once the ground evened out again, Newt let Tina once again walk unaided, she didn't seem the type to tolerate all the help for very long anyway. The walk was a short one compared to most where he stopped a few times to point out a brightly coloured fwooper or the flock (if one could call a group of insects a flock, they were hardly a swarm, being so few in number) of billywigs which raced passed, talking as he did as he went.

The bowtruckles, Pickett among them, were on their usual tree. "Here they are." As if she couldn't already tell, they were a bit hard to miss. It went without saying as well that, bowtruckles or at least Pickett was known to her already. Without him, it was just possible that neither one of them would be standing there now. Funny ol' world really, helped on by little creatures most people, wizards among them, never really noticed. Pickett in his usual fashion, made his way to the edge of a branch where Newt was quick to collect him. Something that felt like the habit of a lifetime. "At least he's finally forgiven me." He remarked, there for a while after what had happened with Gnarlak, Pickett had been rather rude and on one occasion had been just rude enough to try to poke Newt in the eye.

The other bowtruckles, were slower to inch forward but they were doing their best to get a good look at their observer. Who was watching who was perhaps the question. "Hold one, if you like." Well, at the very least she could offer. "Just put your hand up real careful. They can be a bit shy." Newt didn't do it with the same care as he explained but the difference was the simple fact that they were used to him. He'd never tried encouraging someone else to handle them before. Although the odds were very, very slim for them to go on attack mode but that seemed like information better kept to himself. Bowtruckles could be very rude when they wanted to be.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught movement, and with the turn of his head he muttered. "Away with you. Go on." As no fewer than three Diricawl watched around the corner. He took a few steps forward, Pickett still hanging on for yet another adventure. "Go on. Nothing for you to eat here." And with a pop they disappeared from sight at his shooing motion, only to reappear somewhere else but at least they were farther away. Content for the moment that Tina's foot wasn't about to get attacked by some hungry birds, he went back to her.

"Rather peaceful creatures, Bowtruckles." Although it was possible he'd say that about some dragons too. "They found me. Not sure why they were so keen but I'm glad to have them." There were somethings in the case that even he couldn't explain so it was best not to even try. "I'm thinking that Poppy there might have some young soon." He hadn't intended to breed them but nature was a funny thing like that and he wasn't about to deny that the chance to study something like that was exciting and a worthy research topic. Thankfully unlike some of his other creatures, bowtruckles didn't take up much space at all.

Newt smiled, that awkward smile that he was bordering on famous for. "They seem to like you." For whatever reason that made him feel pleasant. The simple fact that she was winning over a few of his creatures but he couldn't quite put his finger on why that was.

I want a unicorn.
" Next time I'm here I'll feed you. " Not that she was saying Newt didn't, but it was hard to have to look at all those big blue orbs for eyes staring at her in need of a treat that they all more than likely didn't actually need! It made Tina chuckle when she gave the nearest one another gentle pat before she backed away from the mooncalves at Newt's decision to move on. She found them to be interesting, even if it was just a little heartbroken to see all those tiny disappointed faces when the two had gone on without feeding them even a little! It must've been a trick, those little rascals. Each one had that look like a dog that hadn't had a bone. So much so, Tina had done a couple steps backwards unable to fully want to look away from them when lips had curled into a tiny pout before turning to face Newt. So she may have been slowly getting sucked into their trap, so what? Taking advantage of the nurturing sort, that's it.

Again he helped her, and again Tina was attempting to restrain herself from showing how stubborn she could be. " I'm okay, really. " Though, to emphasize the point she did give his arm a little squeeze before releasing him. At least the worse damage was done. She'd already used a spell to mend her bone back into place and the stinky stuff he'd given her would have likely helped with any left over swelling and the sort. " Thank you. " While stubborn, she wasn't rude either. A smile given when dark eyes found themselves looking upward at the half swarm of insects unlike any she'd seen in the open in New York. She wasn't the greatest fan of bugs, though she also wasn't the type that went screaming and running in the other direction either thankfully. She knew they all had to share the same space, she just preferred that they stay further back.

While the walk may have been short, she found it even shorter because she enjoyed the somewhat spontaneous tour she was getting. It was nice of him to do it for her, especially given that she had gone there originally fully intending to yell at him for leaving his case in front of her door. This was the better alternative, one in which Tina had long since forgiven him for the harmless mistake and may have at least admitted to herself that she was just as much to blame for not being careful. But, not enough to let him know that. Oh no.

The Bowtruckles were fascinating little creatures. They were small and could easily blend into their habitat making it difficult to really find one. Even so, Porpentina would think she saw one only to realize she was staring at a branch or a twig that had been placed among them. " Hello Pickett. " While the little one had gone straight for Newt, it hadn't stopped her from saying hello to it first. That Bowtruckle was the special one, the one that had saved them when she really thought all hope was lost. " That long to forgive? " For a small creature it sure held a big grudge! Not that she could entirely blame it, but she really doubted Newt would have willingly given him away to Gnarlak either. Speaking of which, that was one goblin that Tina hoped she never had to deal with again.

Porpentina had a hand halfway out when she heard Newt directing his attention elsewhere and she was able to catch just a glimpse of one of the Diricrawls before it had disappeared. This led to the Auror giving a narrowed eye stare in the direction waiting to see if it would stay or if it would get the hint and go. That was the last thing she needed, to be feeling better and risk being in pain again all thanks to the pecking of a hungry creature that was probably just as well fed as the mooncalves! At least he was on it, since she was sure that they were far more likely to have listened to him than they would to the stranger that was currently in what was more than home than anyone elses.

When the Diricrawls disappeared at least far enough to matter, it was when Tina had gone back to trying to lure a Bowtruckle into her hand. She moved towards their habitat with both hands opened gently. She stood silent waiting to see if one may have felt the trust to come to her or if they had still been mostly uncomfortable with her being there. She continued to listen to him, although no words had followed when eyes looked for the one he referred to as 'Poppy'. It was exciting if it was true, she couldn't say she wouldn't mind seeing what the stick like little offspring could be like. " Well congratulations Poppy. " She hadn't wanted to shout, and for a moment her own voice seemed like it may have been a little too loud so Tina instead had muttered the words as her open hands had finally at least lured one brave little stick with legs. It stepped onto her hand slowly and she found she had to gently bite her lower lip to prevent a laugh from the tickling it's little legs gave.

She hadn't missed what else he said, about how they found him and how they seemed to like her. She doubted it was much to do with her. " They knew you would treat them well, of course they found you. " She couldn't blame them, at first when she met him she hadn't taken what he did really that serious until she saw the creatures in that case and how selflessly he'd put himself before them. " Hello there. " Soft words had spoke to the one that had climbed onto her. This one looked different than Pickett with a little more brown along his legs and arms. She'd have never thought they could actually look different from one another, but then there she was being proven wrong again. They like her though? " I hope so. I like them. "

Moonlighting as a tour guide

"Can't say as I blame him but I was beginning to think he'd never forgive me." Considering it had taken Pickett actual months and quite a bit of sucking up before Newt found himself forgiven, that was the complete truth. For something that was only a few inches in size, bowtruckles (or at least Pickett) appeared to have one hell of an ability to hold a grudge. Without a doubt he had many a person beat but had the tables been turned, Newt wasn't all that sure that he would have forgiven easily either. Saving someone's life only to have them turn around and sell you for information was rather rude, even if it had been a necessary evil at the time. Hopefully it was the first and last time for such an event as well.

With the Diricrawls at least out of sight Newt felt a bit better, though that was something that wasn't particularly a comforting thing for a creature that had the ability to turn invisible. While nature would state that they only did that to avoid predators, Newt had seen them first hand use their ability to steal the odd bit of food (typically from other creatures in the case) and to get the upper hand on him. It was no wonder muggles thought they were extinct with the number of tricks the silly little birds pulled. However, at the moment, he would be perfectly happy if they didn't think Tina some sort of walking salad bar. Why they even liked that stuff he didn't know. They had to be lacking in the taste bud department.

Still, even if he had to keep an eye on some silly birds, it was nice to take the time to actually show someone the sights. It was a rare treat and, admittedly, it was just nice being around Tina too. Newt found himself even more pleased as Titus seemed to be a bit taken to her. Perhaps it was a bit too early to claim them friends but it was progress and maybe even a little trust on their part that he'd never let someone around them that meant them harm. Excluding, no doubt, what Pickett had told them with the Gnarlak incident.

"Bowtruckles are actually commonly seen by muggles. Loggers mostly." Newt couldn't help himself but talk on the subject, sure some of the information was found in the book but at the same time, there had to be a cut off somewhere. "Usually no one believes the claims and it gets belittled as a wild story." Which was pretty common with muggles come to think of it. Some of them really did lack a certain amount of imagination. How sad for them it really was. "But they're very tenacious creatures - as you saw." Although Pickett's heroics were not exactly on par with the usual behaviour exhibited by other members of his species. "They'll fight to the death to protect their home and they're very nurturing toward their young. Not that I've been able to see that first hand." But by all appearances that luck had started to change there.

Newt still wasn't sure exactly why the Bowtruckles had been so keen on him. There were several cases where he had taken wild samples, as it were, of certain creatures but he had never intended to do that with the Bowtruckles. Perhaps they knew that they'd be useful later, honestly he just wasn't sure of what the truth was. "Apparently news travels fast." Maybe Frank had something to do with it but then again it was a challenge to see the Thunderbird drumming up other creatures for him to care for. "I'm sure it could be explained had I thought about it." At the time, he had been a little too shocked to wake up from a short nap and find four Bowtruckles staring at him like he was the latest and greatest wireless.

He watched Tina without entirely staring, instead he went for the occasional glance with most of his focus on the other Bowtruckles and Pickett who paced up and down his arm until returned to the tree. Newt had noticed the slight change in Pickett of late that had nothing to do with the events of before, the only guess stood in the idea that it was something to do with the surprising news for Poppy. Maybe Bowtruckles were little worriers like their human counterparts when it came to changes in the family structure. But of that he still wasn't entirely sure.

Nonetheless, Tina seemed like something of a natural though given to her predisposition to be caring (yes, he had noticed) it was not entirely a surprise. Most creatures just needed to know that they were in safe hands and weren't going to be harmed for whatever reason. While he didn't want to rush Tina through the case, he didn't care to bore her to death either. Even if she did look to be enjoying herself!

"You know Dougal and the Occamys." He spoke, mostly sounding like he was thinking aloud. "What would be the next..." His words trailed off as the lowest, but still threatening growls, came from behind them. Newt turned on his heels to see none other than Sudaratā, the nundu. Still several yards away, the large cat had perched herself upon an equally large rock, her tail twitching with annoyance. If he didn't know any better, someone had woken up on the wrong side of the cave. Without so much as a second thought, he put himself between Tina and the clearly upset animal. Not taking his eyes off Sudaratā as he calmly spoke to Tina. "Tina, listen to me. I'd like you to step back very carefully - take Titus with you if you want - there's a tree about ten paces behind us, keep going until you get there and don't get out your wand." Unlike almost everything else in the case, if Sudaratā wasn't happy it was something that needed to be addressed sooner rather than later even if he was perfectly happy with discussing Bowtruckles with Tina.

Newt took a deep breath to steady himself and took a few steps toward the angry cat rather than away from her. While her moods were very disruptive, they were nothing compared to the way things were when she had first arrived. In a soothing tone, he spoke to her, "Now Sudaratā. You're safe. That's all behind you. No one's here for a show. No entertainment. You're just here to be a cat." A very large cat. His words had done little more than stop her growling but that counted for quite a bit. "Take a nap in the sun. Go enjoy yourself. We'll leave you be." None if these words, did anything visible. She was still there looking unimpressed as ever, it wasn't as if he could manage to put her to sleep with a lullaby. He wasn't that good.

With his peace spoken, he too backed away then. Any other time, he may have pushed it farther but not with Tina there. He wasn't that reckless. "It'll be best if we see a different part of the case, for now." Newt had Tina by the hand leading her away without giving her a chance to argue or anything of the like. He glanced over his shoulder only once to make sure that Sudaratā wasn't stalking them - she wasn't thankfully. "How about we go see Dougal?" That'd hopefully give his temperamental cat friend, a chance to calm down and maybe go back to her cave where he really preferred her to be with guests around.

"We'll go back when its safe." There was no lie in Newt's voice. It was safety and he had the scars to prove just what could happen if Sudaratā was pushed too far. She had gotten so much better with him but with Tina? It looked like that was one creature that was going to take a little longer than the Bowtruckles.

I could take you in for this! ( Again )
While it was a long time, it was nice he had forgiven him. Although she doubted Newt may have been willing to go through that extreme of a deal any time soon, hopefully for Pickett's sake! While listening him go on about Bowtruckles and how No-Maj people had actually seen them before, her attention was really on Titus who was staring up at her just as she was staring down at him. She'd seen Pickett a few times, although that creature was far too concerned with Newt to bother with her, not like this one who had taken a liking to her as she did him.

A part of her couldn't really picture the Bowtruckles really fighting to the death, but then the idea of them defending their home and their young were things that Tina could easily relate to as she'd have done the same. Or at least, she liked to think any halfway decent person would have that mindset! " It looks like you'll have a chance to see for yourself than. " At least if it was true about Poppy, then he could have a first hand experience in seeing how the young were handled. Heck, maybe he could use that info for another book if he decided.

She figured he had a journal somewhere or something to track it, maybe even she could help in it if need be. At least somewhere between going to the library and staying in the somewhat stuffy room she had at the Bed and Breakfast still. She felt it was soon time to move on, which came at the perfect timing of Newt's discussion about how she had already met Dougal and of course she was familiar with the Occamy's. She moved her hand back towards the other Bowtruckles where Titus had been ready to leap off when that growl had even caught her attention.

It wasn't hard to miss, while as low as it was, such a tone caught the ears easily when she gave a glance over her shoulder. What exactly was that? It wasn't safe, not with those large teeth and the less than happy way it was staring at them. " Shh. Go ahead. " She heard his warning, though the little creature with her had been too frightened to go any further and chose to return to his friends and family as Tina had slowly pushed her hand closer to a nearby branch to let Titus leap on it.

Then she had to get moving. While she was no Magizoologist, she had the common sense of knowing that she couldn't just run away to that nearby tree. Instead, steps had been slow so that the big cat didn't feel threatened by her. As for his warning about no wand, well. That was a promise she wasn't going to make. Had that Nundu chose to attack him or her, than that was a step she was more than willing to take. Thankfully none of that happened. She made it to the tree and hands had fallen at her sides as Newt had spoke to the creature and had returned to her all in a few short moments.

" What was that!? " Not stupid enough to shout, she could damn well whisper with that not so thrilled tone! " That thing could eat us! " She looked back and was thankful to see that it hadn't been right behind them either, though the distance between them only continued to increase as steps were forced to be taken due to Newt having taken her hand.

Maybe she wasn't so much as angry as she was literally a bit frightened by what she had just seen. In fact, as he had brought up seeing Dougal once more until it was 'safe' to go back over there, that was when Porpentina had given his hand a tighter squeeze and steps stopped in an attempt to force his own pace to come to a halt.

The angry kitten, Sudaratā? It's name was? She couldn't help but still take an occasional glance to make sure it wasn't on the verge of pouncing on them, but her attention had also gone on Newt when she for those rarest of times really couldn't pull herself away from making direct eye contact with him. " Are you crazy!? " While she could have yelled at him, or hit him, or really done a jinx or something. Tina had found her tone more expressed in a plea. " What if that thing hurt you!? " Why did she bother? Sometime told her that he probably already figured that out?

Really, sometimes she just didn't know what to do with him! " Yes. We can go see Dougal. " At least he was safe.
